JOB TITLE – Design Engineering Manager DEPTR&D
ABOUT THE JOBAs the Design Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing and delivering multiple NPD products through the final design and development stages. You will modify existing products to increase efficiency or improve performance. The Design Engineering Manager will lead a team of designers, you will oversee their day-to-day activities and provide design support where necessary.
ORGANISATION/STRUCTURE CHART (one up, one down and peers)
Responsibilities: New product development managing multiple projects Manage and lead a team of design engineers with a diverse mix of skills and abilities
to deliver required outputs and solutions Provide technical support and direction to the design team Manage project costs, deadlines and technical design Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers and
suppliers Ensure that designs comply with all appropriate customer requirements and meet
regulatory requirements Ensure the highest levels of quality and productivity are maintained within the team
and department Mentor your team to develop and hone their skills, identifying and assessing gaps in
their capabilities require to complete allocated tasks, arranging training and support where required

Oversee and manage product and life testing Product design and development including parametric modelling Technical drawings to accompany work instructions and supplier quotations/
purchase orders Be able to produce accurate tolerance stack calculations Creating of new parts/assemblies and creation of their bill of materials Provide assistance to company operations and manufacturing as required Work to project plans and manage multiple deadlines and tasks accurately and
reliably Undertaking project documentation General admin and departmental activities as required Interface with Engineering/Tooling
KEY TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Extensive experience in 3D CAD modelling and drafting Strong working knowledge of Solidworks Extensive experience in a product design and development role Good knowledge of best practice design lifecycle, gated design phases, design
reviews and projects etc Line Management experience within a design engineering environment Ability to build and test prototypes to high standards Comfortable with ‘failure’ in the context of multiple iterations of testing and learning Willing to get hands dirty and carry out a variety of work, ranging from business
planning of new products through to modelling and drafting of components/assemblies as world load commands
Effective communicator and team player Driven individual who strives for success Attention to detail, a high standard of accuracy and quality, together with clear
communication skills A ‘can do’, flexible attitude Ability to work in a busy and varied environment Able to think laterally and deal with last minute changes under pressure Motivated and adaptable, willing to assist with all company challenges Highly motivated and collaborative – taking ownership of projects and at the same
time being objective and responsive to feedback A great eye for design details and a sensitivity to the visual aspects of a product
Desirable: Qualification in Engineering Medical knowledge based on medical training and/or experience in medical practice
would be a distinct advantage.
