Greetings, Dr. Lowry!
Once again we are looking for full-time engineering summer interns, and this year we are trying to get an earlier start so we will be able to interview candidates during spring break if possible. Could you please post this opportunity again for the civil engineering students? Ideally we would like to find students who are interested in pursuing geotechnical engineering or materials engineering as a career, but it is open to all engineering students.
Please see http://Lowery.tamu.edu/announcements/GMEInternship.pdf
Also, we are looking for an engineering student graduating this year who wants to pursue geotechnical engineering and/or soil and materials engineering. What would you recommend as far as finding that sort of candidate?

If you could pass the advertisement on (Ports EIT Position Descriptions 112012.docx) to other prospective students (structural with geotech emphasis) who are graduating in May 2015 that would be great. They can send resumes directly to me or forward to Celina Walker (copied above). We typically look for candidates who are above average communicators, can demonstrate good mechanical aptitude (previous work experience, construction, hobbies, etc.) and those who have a solid structural / geotechnical academic foundation. I have included a few typical project sheets to illustrate why we are interested in those qualifications. This is the type of work we do on a regular basis. Large loads, soil structure interaction, non-repetitive engineering.
See http://lowery.tamu.edu/announcements/Moore1.pdf And, in return, we would be glad to come help with a class presentation to answer the questions of 1) why do we need to learn calculus? 2) what practical use are these stresses/strains/influence lines/pressure diagrams, etc. Thanks! I hope all is well in Aggieland! Gig ‘Em.

Dr. Lowery,
Hello Dr. Lowery,
My name is Jeremy Boyd with RLB Contracting. I stopped by the Civil Engineering department there in College Station a few days ago inquiring about posting a job for a civil engineering student. We are looking for a recent graduate or a soon to graduate student who can help us process survey data by turning the raw data into an autoCAD topo model that can be used to determine quantities. If you would please give me a call at (361) 552-2104 or send me an email at [email protected] I would greatly appreciate it.
Jeremy BoydRLB Contracting Inc.
I've had a chance to talk with our operations manager, Toby, and he has given me a better idea on the position that we are currently trying to fill. This position would require: - Being able to take raw field data and convert it into a computer model to preform quantity calculations on. - Conduct site visits to be able to visualize the surveys they would be processing. - Plot cross sections from the field data received. - Experience with a model program to build templates for different jobs in which quantity calculations would be needed - Full-time, with $45,000-$55,000 starting pay - Located in Port Lavaca, Texas

3/25/15Howdy Dr. Lowery!
I hope all is well for you back in Aggieland. I still can’t believe it is going on 11 years since I graduated. Even after all this time has passed it still feels like I was just in class yesterday! Life has been good since we last spoke. I’ve gone from being the Assistant Area Engineer in Liberty to becoming the Area Engineer last July after my previous AE moved up to become a Director. It has been a great experience with a lot of unique challenges.
I’m hiring a 2nd EIT for the office and wanted to see if you could get the word out to the graduating seniors. The job duties for the EIT would include developing routine maintenance contracts, inspecting construction, assisting in plan development, and any additional day to day duties as they come up. Our office is on US 90 between Houston and Beaumont. It is about 45 min each direction to either city and we are experiencing a lot of growth and development with Houston expanding to the east and soon we will have approximately 38 miles of the Grand Parkway (3rd loop around Houston) that will be built in my two counties. I’ve attached a map of the area office location.
I am also looking to hire a summer employee to assist us with our summer construction work load and I’ve attached a flyer with some information regarding that program. Please see http://Lowery.tamu.edu/announcements/OmarTxDOT.pdf
Potential candidates can visit www.txdot.gov to fill out an application. If any candidates have any questions please have them contact me via email or at the office number listed below.

4/15/15Good Afternoon Dr. Lowery,
I hope you are well. My company is looking to fill another position. We did hire a CE undergrad last May who has worked out very well for our team! Please see the listing beloow.
I’d greatly appreciate if you can include this your CE job listings.
H2B, Inc. is seeking to fill a position for an experienced civil engineer. The engineer will work as part of a team on projects that will likely include civil site designs (layout, grading, drainage design, detention pond design, etc), transportation related designs (horizontal and vertical alignment design, hydraulic design, traffic control, etc), and building designs (structural design for metal building foundations, and wood, steel, masonry, and concrete superstructures and miscellaneous structures). Tasks may include project design (both calculations and CAD), attending project meetings, obtaining permit approval through various municipalities, and handling client requests.
The ideal candidate will have the skills necessary to work in AutoCAD and MicroStation. In addition, experience with Geopak software is a plus. Prefer 2

4/23/15Dr. Lowery:Man was I surprised when the young lady gave me your name as the contact for advertising a job opening. I am so pleased that you are still around! I hope the years past have been good to you and your family and that future years are glorious.
Now, the point of my contact:
I have a job opening for an Assistant County Engineer. Could you help me advertise this opening among your students – those who are nearing graduation? The work of the County Engineer doesn’t necessarily need the credentials associated with an E.I.T. or P.E.; however, those attributes always bring additional credibility. At a minimum we need a graduate civil engineer, ideally someone familiar with road/bridge construction means and methods, can review plans, and can schedule work and budget for projects. I am nearing retirement and will remain here long enough to train a “green” recruit; however, if there is one of those unique students that came into an engineering program after being in the field or grew up around construction --- well, that would be ideal. Regardless, I’d be happy to consider any smart and energetic graduate who enjoys a challenge.
Let me know if you have any prospects.

From: Matt Baacke [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, November 05, 2015 10:49 AMTo: Lowery Jr, Lee LSubject: Goodwin & Marshall Co-op Opportunity Spring-Summer 2016
Dr. Lowery,
Please post the following job opportunity to the C.E. Listserve. Goodwin & Marshall, Inc. attended the recent Engineering Career fair at A&M and met some excellent co-op prospects, but we would like to meet a few more. We are interested in Aggies in the Civil Engineering program that were unable to speak with us at the Career Fair and would like to pursue a Co-op opportunity with our company.
Goodwin & Marshall, Inc. (G&M) is currently seeking undergraduate civil engineering students that are interested in a Cooperative Education Opportunity for the 2015 Spring and Summer semesters. G&M has a well-defined college cooperative education program and for the last 15 years G&M has worked with co-op programs and students from several universities, particularly Texas A&M University. We are looking for civil engineering students that have a superior work ethic, a great attitude, and the desire to
62
gain actual design experience before graduation. G&M maintains a full-time staff of 15 professional engineers and surveyors. Due to the size of the company, co-op students are provided with the opportunity to work closely with the professional engineers on staff. Consequently, co-op students at G&M are integral to the design process and will be working on real projects with real deadlines and budgets.
The secondary purpose of the co-op program with G&M is to establish long-term relationships with the highest caliber of engineering student. Several full-time members of our staff began their careers as co-op students, including a handful of Aggies. Since G&M implemented the co-op program, over 70 college students (nearly half of them Aggies) have gained invaluable experience that they have utilized to begin successful careers in civil engineering.
The G&M office is located in Grapevine, TX which is centrally located within the DFW Metroplex. Additional information can be found on our website at www.gmcivil.com.
Undergraduate civil engineering students interested in this Co-op opportunity can apply by sending their resume to [email protected]. There is also a job posting on the A&M Career Center website.
G&M will also be at the Career Fair in January for students interested in a 2016 Summer-Fall Co-op.
