1 Job Posting Career Opportunity: Community Justice Officer Department: Justice and Correctional Services Location: Mistissini Salary Grade 5: (Min. $51,223.00 – Max. $68,383.00) Status: Temporary (1 Year) Core Functions: The Community Justice Officer is responsible for attending court sessions, gathering information, and administering community justice programs by working in collaboration with a variety of professionals, individuals and groups such as communities, community justice panels/committees, court personnel, police, social services and health care professionals and Regional Crime Victims Assistance Centre (CAVAC) Workers. Functional Responsibilities: Attend court sessions held within the community, liaise with court personnel, prosecutors and lawyers to ensure smooth operations of services during court sessions. Provide technical and functional assistance to the court personnel. Participate in the development of local programs in areas of diversion, alternative measures and prevention with Community Justice Panel/Committee, community resource groups and the Coordinator of Program Development. Coordinate and facilitate Community Justice Panel/Committee meetings. Coordinate on-boarding and training sessions for the members of the Justice Committee. Undertake annual planning, prepare quarterly work plans of activities and review progress with the Coordinator of Justice. Support the community justice programs in the community by planning, organizing and coordinating such programs. Help oversee the status of the local Justice facilities, including being available when facility alarm is triggered and to coordinate with the Capital Works and Services department and Justice Projects Officer for any necessary actions in response to any incidents involving the facility. Interaction/Communication Responsibilities Cooperate and coordinate with the Reintegration Officer for the smooth and thorough hand-over of case files. Act as a resource person in the community by providing information relative to the justice system and its administration, and on local justice programs developed by the Community Justice Panel/Committee.

Career Opportunity: Community Justice Officer

• Promote the community justice programs in collaboration with the Manager of Justice Services and such agencies as the police force, the school board and the health board.

• Communicate to community members regarding all justice matters and concerns through public information sessions, written notices, radio broadcasts and local general assemblies.

• Liaise with the Justice Projects Officer for the monitoring, scheduling and usage maintenance of land-based camps.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain confidential client records and records of decisions and ensure the security of the database and access to secure information provided by the Ministry of Justice.

• Work with databases, including populating the community justice databases in order to produce usable reports and statistics.

• Take minutes of Community Justice Panel/Committee meetings and documents sentencing decisions and agreements between parties.

• Evaluate and respond to client program related requests and referrals with appropriate information in a timely fashion.

• Ensure forms and paperwork are properly completed. Reporting Responsibilities

• Submit monthly community justice reports and records of decisions. • Ensure all deadlines, reporting requirements and budgets are complied with for justice community-

based projects. • Participate in specialized report writing training (Gladue reports). Other Responsibilities

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility. • Perform other duties as required.

Education • College diploma in Criminology, Psychology, Sociology or related field. Experience • One to three years of relevant work experience. Language • Fluency in verbal Cree.

• Fluency in English. • Fluency in French is an asset. Additional Requirements • Typical office setting where there are no unusual physical demands. • Willingness to travel occasionally. • Must be able to pass provincial and federal security screening. The Cree Nation Government may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned requirements if a suitable candidate who is a JBNQA beneficiary accepts to follow a training plan determined by the Cree Nation Government as a condition of employment.
