Pancreatic Cancer Action MarComms Officer Job Description Feb 2013 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Marketing and Communications Officer Salary: £20,000-£22,000 pro-rata Hours of Work: 17.5 hours per week Responsible to: Chief Executive Responsible for: PR, Marketing & Media Location: Liphook, Hampshire Job Purpose: This new post is an excellent opportunity for an intelligent, organised and creative candidate who is looking for their next step in a career in charity PR and marketing communications. Pancreatic Cancer Action Pancreatic Cancer Action, (registered charity No.1137689) was founded in Surrey in 2010 by a rare survivor of the disease. A small team headed by our Chief Executive runs the charity and overall a board of Trustees provides direction for the organisation. Pancreatic cancer has only a three per cent survival rate and this figure has remained the same for over 40 years. Despite it being the fifth biggest cancer killer in the UK, pancreatic cancer receives less than one per cent of overall research funding. With a strong focus on early diagnosis, it is Pancreatic Cancer Action’s aim to improve survival rates through awareness, information and increased funding. Simply, we want more people diagnosed in time for surgery, currently the only potential for a cure. Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Prepare and distribute press releases, features, official statements and other communications targeted at media and other opinion formers. 2. Build and maintain a comprehensive database of media contacts. 3. Respond efficiently to reactive opportunities in the news. 4. Help with the development of a successful media relations strategy. 5. Generate local media news stories from PCA fundraisers, generating press releases and supporting the fundraisers through the process. 6. Liaise with PCA pancreatic cancer patient case studies and maintain a database of willing media participants 7. Develop event literature for PCA fundraising events or for corporate partner events. 8. Work with external agencies to help in the design of patient information and awareness materials.

9. Produce promotional materials and merchandise

10. Monitor and maintain stocks of promotional items, display materials and branded clothing 11. Assist with uploading new website content. 12. Support national awareness campaigns and fundraising initiatives.

13. Help update social media - Twitter/Facebook/Google+/Pinterest 14. Attend meetings, events and conferences as required– acknowledging that some of these may

be out of hours and involve overnight stays.

15. Perform other duties that the Chief Executive of Pancreatic Cancer Action may consider appropriate.
