Job Details Overview of department: Our remit is huge – one that supports around 1.6 million student finance applications a year. The growing value of the loan book is a key focus for the organisation, the loan book is becoming a significant national asset. At the Student Loans Company, our Finance function is key to our success. Our team is responsible for ensuring we secure appropriate funding and get the best possible value for the money we spend, driving forward our continuing mission to enable our customers to invest in their futures by delivering secure, accurate and efficient assessment, payment and repayment services. We control expenditure and provide clear and accurate management information, providing value for money from suppliers through contracts and procurement, we also mitigate the Company’s exposure to financial risk. Grade: G5 Reporting to: Management Accounting Manager Budget Responsibility: N/A Line Management Responsibility: 6 direct reports Job Purpose: Creating robust, efficient and well-evidenced business plans is vital for SLC to secure the necessary funding to ensure that student finance continues to be managed in a safe and sustainable way. This team will be key in facilitating planning on an activity basis and in shaping the methodologies that apply costs to our business plans. Providing solutions to identified issues and supporting the required business change are core to the role. Key responsibilities:

• Lead the function Finance Analysis function within the Management Accounting team

• Identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency, performance, productivity and effectiveness within the business.

• Lead the development of consistent models and financial analysis of all activities, including the setting of benchmarking and best practice, internal and external, for all activities

• Provide overall direction and co-ordination for the development of tools and systems for the production of the long term business plan, including cost and performance modelling.

• Lead and manage the production, development and implementation of functional processes and procedures.

• Attend and contribute to various steering and focus groups. • To develop and maintain productive relationships with all stakeholders. • Identify and Implement quality and efficiency improvement initiatives. • Derive from analysis and discussions, opportunities for improvement. Propose actions to

budget holders. • Information provision to other finance teams to support routine and ad-hoc information

requirements including EPM. • Lead and manage the production of balanced scorecard key measures from the activity

based costing model on a monthly basis. • Promote the purpose of the team across the organisation and communicate achievements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Essential

• Experience in leading finance teams to deliver results • A willingness to challenge, balanced by good interpersonal skills • Excellent written, verbal, influencing, organisational and presentational skills • Experience of writing processes and procedures • The ability to distil complex problems with large amounts of data into simple arguments. • Excellent analytical skills • Excellent communication skills to build relationships with a wide range of individuals to

manage their expectations

Desirable • Previous experience of activity based costing • Proven process management and process improvement experience • Experience in the delivery of long term plans and or rolling/long term forecasting techniques • Experience of practically applying business improvement methodologies
