JBMSHP overview
• Receive university credit and an ASU GPA
• Live on ASU Tempe campus in student residence halls
• Take classes with ASU math faculty
Cost to attend: JBMSHP is FREE!
Dates and courses
8-week session: May 25 – July 17, 2020 (4 credits)• MAT 270: Calculus I• MAT 271: Calculus II
6-week session: June 7 – July 17, 2020 (3 credits)• MAT 117: College Algebra• MAT 170: Pre-Calculus• MAT 343: Applied Linear Algebra*
* Students who wish to take MAT 343 must be previous participants of the JBMSHP AND demonstrate college or AP credit for MAT 271: Calculus with Analytic Geometry II by the application deadline.
Daily schedule
9:00am – 3:00pm • Lecture• Tutoring sessions• Quizzes/ Exams
3:00pm – 5:00pm • Individual tutoring sessions• Activities
7:00pm – 9:00pm• Computer labs• Tutoring sessions• Activities
Applied math research
• Students will use math software to perform research on a real-life applied math problem.
• Groups will present findings at a poster symposium for faculty, staff and families.
• Examples of 2019 research topics:• The role of substance abuse in homelessness
• Social media and eating disorders
• Future of social security
• Viability of cryptocurrency
Weekends
Live in the Phoenix metro area?• Students are required to go home
Check-out: Fridays @ 3pm - 6pmCheck-in: Sundays @ 6pm - 9pm
Live outside Phoenix? • Students have the option to stay at the
JBMSHP
• Weekend activities provided
Eligibility
• Qualify for Arizona in-state tuition
• Be a high school sophomore, junior or senior during the 2019-2020 school year
• Completed a minimum of three years of mathematics by the end of the 2019-2020 academic year
• Cumulative 3.25 GPA (unweighted)
• Must have at least a “B” grade in all math and science classes
• High school seniors have been accepted to ASU and must plan to attend ASU during the fall 2020 semester
