Effects of skipping breakfast
Just because youre lazy, doesnt mean you should skip breakfast. Just
because youre tired and busy doesnt mean that you can only have to drink a sip of
coffee for breakfast. Nowadays, people in the world skip breakfast which gives
negative effects to the body, mentally and physically.
A study by the University of Edinburgh, found that only 45% of fifteenyear old
girls in UK are eating breakfast regularly, which means that more than half of the 15
year old girls in the UK are skip breakfast. However, this does not apply only to 15
year old girls; 42% of boys in England who are 15 are skipping breakfast.
Case Studies
One of the main reasons that people skip breakfast is to lose weight. This is
not true. In fact, in the February issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it
was stated that people who skipped breakfast were more likely to gain weight, than
those who eat breakfast consistently. When people skip breakfast, they get more
hungry, therefore causing them to overeat in the next meal. Also, studies in the US
have found that skipping breakfast can lower the body s metabolism, which means
fewer calories will get burnt off slowly. Skipping breakfast has a negative impact on
peoples energy levels.
Skipping breakfast can effect a persons mind. According to research by the
U.Ks Telegraph newspaper, feeding children high energy breakfast foods such as

porridge at a young age boosts their exams results at school. Low blood sugar,
reduces energy, which leads to a bad mood, short temper and irritability. No one in
this world would like a bad mood, first thing in the morning. Also in Journal of the
American Dietetic Association says that ... breakfast consumption may improve
cognitive function related to memory, test grades, and school attendance. (Mr.
Breakfast, statistics) Only one simple meal in the morning can lead to a fresh, happy
morning and a good start to the day.
Lastly, just skipping a breakfast can lead to heart disease and diabetes.
According to an article in foxnews.com, Jennifer Warner stated that researchers
found that healthy women who skipped breakfast for two weeks ate more during the
rest of the day, developed higher LDL cholesterol levels and less sensitive to insulin,
which is a risk factors for heart disease. (Warner, Jennifer) The issue of the Harvard
Heart Letter analyzed several studies and reported that eating a healthy breakfast
that includes whole grains reduces the risk of heart disease. According to an article
in familyeducation.com, a healthy breakfast clearly results in healthier lifestyles.
Conclusion
The word breakfast literally means breaking the fast. Our bodies go 7 to 12
hours without food, and need a fresh supply of glucose, which is like pump of sugar
in our blood. Wake up 20 minutes early and have a nice breakfast, it will start your
day bright and clear.
