6

Page 7: Jo-Bell Products Products has been producing liquid level controls since 1947, and was orginally located in Oak Lawn, Illinois. It has an installed base of hundreds of thousands of

Special Construction: Wide Dierential: For applications with a dierential greater than provided by the standard model, the following options are available:

1) Tall Housing: With two (2) switches within a tall switch housing, up to 5" of dierential can be obtained. Tall housings are not available for NEMA 7 A&B service.

2) “GK” Assembly: For a dierential from 5" minimum to 24", the "GK" assembly can be used. This arrangement consists of two (2) separate NEMA 7 C&D (explosion-proof) switch housings, each containing one electrical switch. The distance, on the enclosing tube, between the horizontal centers of the housings is the dierential distance. The distance is factory set, and cannot be adjusted. In order to accommodate the extended head of this design, the room above the tank mounting location must exceed the dierential by at least 8". Switches for the "GK" assembly require a special enclosing tube mounting clamp due to the limited room in the smaller explosion-proof housing. Part numbers have been assigned to reect the dierence in clamps.

The "GK" assembly can also be used for applications with three or more level points. Minimum distance between levels is 5".

3) Tandem Floats: A factory set wide dierential of 10" minimum to 36" maximum can be obtained by using a tandem oat arrangement. This design uses two (2) oats in an extended oat chamber and two (2) switches in a standard switch housing. Each oat has its own rod, piston and switch to actuate. The solid oat rod of the lower oat passes through the tube of the upper oat. The lower oat actuates the upper switch, and the upper oat actuates the lower switch.

4) Sliding Piston: With this design, the piston travels along the rod, making contact with high and low-level stops. The magnet is strong enough to hold the piston in place while the liquid level raises and lowers the rod. The maximum dierential with this design is 6".

High Pressures: For oat-type control applications with operating pressures of 1000 PSIG to 1500 PSIG and self-purging oats not being suitable, see the Type S.

Note: Type CB level controls manufactured before March 1, 2000 might not match the current specications. However, replacement controls can be built to retro-t the existing, as long as a complete description is provided. The serial number and other nameplate data will aid in specifying replacement units.

Optional Features:Cooling Fins: For application with a process temperature above 400°F, up to 1000 °F (depending on the switch selected), cooling ns are used to dissipate the heat which would otherwise be transmitted to the switches.

Breathers and Drains: These can be supplied on NEMA 7 C&D explosion-proof housings. Two congurations are available: manual or universal. The latter design allows air circulation through the housing and is recommended when cooling ns are used.

Interface: The controls are available for interface service. The dierence in specic gravities between the two liquids must be 0.20 or more. The oat for interface service is weighted in order to sink in the lighter liquid, but oat in the heavier liquid. If the dierence is between 0.12 and 0.19, a custom design is available.

Operation: The operation of a displacer control diers from a oat control, because the operation is based on weight displacement rather than buoyancy. In the low level position, the weight of the displacers will expand the displacer spring and keep the actuating piston out of the magnetic zone of the switch. As the liquid rises, it begins to displace the weight of the displacers. The spring senses the weight change and will compress. In doing so, the spring will lift the actuating piston into the magnetic operating zone of the switch. When the level reaches the mid-point of the upper displacer, the switch will actuate. As the level descends, the switch will stay actuated until the level reaches the lower displacer. The weight of the displacers expands the spring, pulling the piston out of the operating zone.

Description: The Type S is an external service, side mounted liquid level control. The S is used for applications having operating pressures of 1000 to 3000 PSIG. A special design of the Type S is used for interface service between liquids with specic gravity dierences between 0.12 and 0.19. Models are available for service to 3000 PSIG; operating temperature to 1000°F, and specic gravity as low as 0.375. The many optional and special constructional features make the Type S practical for a wide range of applications.

Features:Float Chamber: The welded chamber is standard in carbon steel pipe. At extra cost, it can be supplied in 316 SS. Contact the factory for availability of, and quotation for, other materials.

Float: Float material is standard in 316 SS.

Trim: The trim, which includes the oat rod with its related hardware and the enclosing tube assembly, is standard in 316 SS.

Process Connections and Mounting: The standard connections are 1" located on the side and bottom having an 11-1/2" centerline dimension. Male connections usually ease eld installation by eliminating the need for an extra union. Other connections are available as follows: female, socket weld or ange. Refer to the Dimensional Data for the standard centerline dimension of these connections. Specify in the RFQ if a dierent centerline dimension is required. All connections can be supplied in sizes up to 2".

Dierential: With a single switch, the standard dierential is approximately 1". Wide dierential options are available. Field adjustment of the actuating points can be made by raising or lowering the switch on the enclosing tube.

Switch Housing: A NEMA 4X (water-tight, dust-tight) or NEMA 7/4X (explosion-proof and NEMA 4X) housing is available.

Conduit Connection: 3/4" NPT

Special Construction:

Wide Dierential: For applications with a dierential greater than provided by the standard model, the following options are available:

External Displacer: For low level applications where the operating pressure is 1000 PSIG or more, an external displacer control can be used. The displacer diers from the oat control because the operation is based on weight displacement rather than buoyancy. In the low level position, the weight of the displacer will expand the displacer spring and keep the actuating piston out of the magnetic operating zone of the switch. As the liquid rises, it begins to displace the weight of the displacer. The spring senses the weight change, and will compress. In doing so, the spring will lift the actuating piston into the magnetic operating zone of the switch. As the level descends, the switch will remain actuated until the weight of the displacer expands the spring, pulling the piston out of the operating zone. The maximum operating temperature is 1000°F with cooling ns.

Liquid Level Control - Type WB

Standard Features* Used for Rainfall Detection* Switch actuates after 1/10" of rainfall* 14" Diameter Funnel with Debris Screen* NEMA 4 Switch Housing* 1/2" NPT Conduit Connection* Stainless Steel Float Chamber and Funnel

Available Product Options* Red/Green Light Indicators* 120VAC Solenoid Drain Valve* 316 SS Ball Drain Valve* Detection Range From 1/10" to 1" of rainfall

Description:

The Model WB is a special purpose level switch designed for use with sewer diversion and automated irrigation systems. The WB gives an electrical signal after a given amount of rain has fallen. This signal is used to divert storm water away from the normal water treatment facilities and into the storm sewer system, or to activate a sump pump.

The signal can also be used to omit an irrigation cycle for country clubs, agriculture rms, or others that are aected by rain. Particularly valuable for large expanses of land where localized storms might cover one area, but not another. By use of rain switches in dierent areas, the irrigation system will operate only in those areas where rainfall did not occur.

Unless otherwise specied, the electrical signal will be given after 1/10" of rain falls. However, at extra cost, the WB can be specied to activate at any point between 1/10" and 1" of rainfall. The switch point is xed and cannot be changed in the eld.
