ness figured prominently at the an-nual meeting of the Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ASBE) Conference held recently in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Courtney Kernek co-authored and presented her paper titled “Fe-Lines, Inc.-Don’t declaw…..Get Sticky Paws” based on a case study of an actual pet-oriented business. Dr. Kernek was also elected Secretary-Treasurer at the Association annual business meeting.

Dr. Kitty Campbell presented a pa-per she co-authored with Dr. Wayne Jones, Dr. Nick Nichols, and South-

After the Depart-ment of Ac-

counting and Finance hosted a reception for the Oklahoma Accountancy Board (OAB) on September 18, the OAB held their monthly Board meet-ing on the SE cam-pus on September 19. The Board is based in Oklahoma City, and this is the first time the OAB came to SE. The Board only visits Oklahoma universities twice a year. The meeting room was filled to capacity with students, fac-ulty and the board members. Randy Ross, Executive Di-rector, at the OAB was very pleased with the turnout and

the gracious reception they received from the SE community including President Burrage’s welcome message. A presen-tation was made for the students outlining the steps in becoming a CPA, and then the students were given an opportunity to net-work with the Board members. The OAB is the state regulatory

agency for CPAs, PAs and public accounting firms and is the governing body for administering the CPA examina-tion in Oklahoma. The seven members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate.

Management major Zachary Everett was re-cently recognized as one of the top interns in

the country by AFLAC insurance company and was awarded a check for $2,000. According to Zachary, “the internship was great! The experiences I had this summer allowed me to apply real world scenarios to the knowledge I am receiving from SE. One of the greatest things that I learned over the summer was how to talk and interact with other business people. This summer changed my present and future life and has allowed me to figure out just what I want to do with my life. After the internship there is a career opportunity for each intern and I decided to take that opportunity and move forward with a long career with Aflac.” Zachary earned top honors as an intern in the southwest and sixth overall in the nation.
