TISTR
Thailand Institute of Scientific and technological research (TISTR)
was established on 25th May 1963. TISTR is a state enterprise under
the Ministry of Science and Technology that conduct the research,
development and innovation in food, health products, medical
equipment, renewable energy, and environmental management. It
is also provide science and technology services in analysis testing,
calibration and certification compliant to international standards.

6BIODEGRADABILITY TESTING LABORATORYTISTR2016
7
Biodegradability Testing Laboratory has been assessed and
recognized by DIN CERTCO of Germany since August 2014.
The laboratory is on the process of being assessment
through ISO/IEC 17025 in the scope of tests regarding ISO
17088 (Specification for compostable plastics).
8
Recognition by Din Certco (2014 – 2019)
9
ISO 17088 : Specifications for compostable plastics
Aerobic Biodegradation (ISO 14855-1)
• The biodegradation test is determined by measuring the amount of carbon dioxide from microorganism biodegradation activity
Biodegradability
10
ISO 17088 : Specifications for compostable plastics
Disintegration (ISO 16929)
• The disintegration test under define composting condition
Disintegration
11
ISO 17088 : Specifications for compostable plastics
Chemical characterization
• Heavy metal analysis in plastic testing materials
• Negative effects on the presence of high levels of regulated metals and other harmful components
Heavy metal Analysis
12
ISO 17088 : Specifications for compostable plastics
Ecotoxicity test : Plant (OECD Guideline 208)
• The environmental impact assessed by plant test
• Negative effects on the quality of the resulting compost Eco-toxicity
13
Preliminary biodegradation test
TISTR
• Preliminary biodegradation test is first introduces and patents in Thailand by TISTR
TISTR
• The test is a short-time operation and cheaper than comparing with standard method
TISTR
• This method determines carbon dioxide (CO2) consumption from microbial degradation activity
TISTR
• The system was determined during 45 – 60 days incubation. The sample was compared with control, positive reference and negative reference

Cooperation between
TISTR – OCB and DIN CERTCO
Products made of compostable Products
25
Tasks of TISTR as cooperation partner
Representative partner in Thailand
Contact with customers
Provides potential customer with information about certification schemes (promotion) and documents required
Assist customers in their certification procedure (application form, data sheet, laboratory testing, test reports)
Helps to introduce compostable packaging in the market
Will inform DIN CERTCO about any misuse of the mark
26
Tasks of DIN CERTCO as cooperation partner
Will inform TISTR about any changes in the documents
Carries out conformity assessment
Issue of the certificate/notification of registrations and the right to use the logo
Assists TISTR in any questions relating to the interpretation of the certification scheme
No direct contact to customer, every information flow over TISTR
27
Future Work
Build up the cooperation with DIN CERTCO
and TBIA to gain competency and
experiences, thus to be able to be accredited
product certification body (ISO/IEC 17065) for
bioplastics
