2. Composi t ion
A s e t s h a l l b e composed of o n e p i e c e of high-strength hexagcn bolt f o r f r i c t i o n g r i p jo in t , h e r e i n a f t e r r e f e r r e d t o as the Itbolt" , one p iece of high- s t r e n g t h hexagon nut f o r f r i c t i o n g r i p jo in t , h e r e i n a f t e r r e f e r r e d to a s the "nut" , a n d two p i e c e s of high-s t rength p la in w a s h e r s f o r f r i c t i o n g r i p jo in t , h e r e i n a f t e r r e f e r r e d to as t h e " w a s h e r " , r e s p e c t i v e l y spec i f i ed in 3.

?. Classes and Grades
The s e t s shall be classified into Classes 1 , 2 and 3 according to mechanical properties of the parts constituting the se t s , and each c lass shall be further subclassified into A and B according to torque coefficient. The grades of the par ts constituting the set shall be classified a s given in Tables 2 to 5 according to the mechanical properties.
The c lasses in combination with the grades a c c o r d ~ n g to mechanical prop- e r t i e s of the constituting par ts shall be a s given in Table 1.

5. Torque Coefficient of Set
The torque coefficient of the se t . when tested in accordance with 11.2, shall conform to the requirements of Table 6 . , where the value shall be obtained from the following formula:

T h e shape and dimensions of the bol ts , .nuts and w a s h e r s sha l l be a s specif ied in Attached, Tab le s 1 t o 3.
7. S c r e w Threads
T h e sc rew th reads of the bol t s and nuts shal l be me t r i c coarse sc rew th reads specified in J I S B 0205, and t h e i r g rade sha l l be of 6 ~ / 6 ~ specif ied in J I S B 0209.
T h e s c r e w th reads of the bol t s sha l l have been made by th read rolling. . $
8. Appearance .
8.1 Appearance of Bolt T h e appearance of the bolt s h a l l be in compliance with the requirements of Attached Tab le 1 in sur face roughness , and , in addition, f r e e from quenching c r a c k s and such defec ts harmful t o u s e as f laws, b u r r s , r u s t and damage of s c r e w t h r e a d s .
8.2 Appearance of Nut T h e appea rance of the nut sha l l be in compliance with the requirements of Attached Tab le 2 in su r f ace roughness , and , in addition, f r e e from quenching c r a c k s and such de fec t s harmful to u s e a s f laws, b u r r s and ru s t .
8.3 Appearance of Washer T h e appearance of the w a s h e r sha l l be in c o m ~ l i a n c e with the reaui rements of Attached Table 3 i n s u r f a c e roughness , and -.

9. Materials
The materials f o r the bol t s , nuts and washers s h a i l be such that the i r products may sa t i s fy the requirements of 4 to 8.
10. S u r f a c e Treatment
T h e bolts, nuts and washers may be subjected t o any su r f ace treatment, provided that it might not a f f ec t adverse ly the i r quality.
11. T e s t s and Measurements
11.1 T e s t s on Mechanical P rope r t i e s
11.1.1 T e s t s on Mechanical P rope r t i e s of Bolt T h e t e s t s on mechanical proper t ies of the bolt sha l l cons is t of the tension t e s t and hardness t e s t '
descr ibed below:
(1) Tension T e s t s of Bolt The tension t e s t s of t he bolt sha l l be ca r r i ed out f o r the t e s t p ieces machined from bolt and the full-size bolt.
(1.1) Tension T e s t s f o r T e s t P i eces The tension t e s t s fo r the t e s t pieces sha l l be made as described in , the following a r t i c l e s .
(1.1.1) T e s t P i ece T h e t e s t piece shal l be as follows:
(1.1.1.1) F o r the t e s t piece No. 4 t e s t p iece specif ied in J I S Z 2201 which has been machined from the bolt as shown in Fig. 1 (A) o r (B) sha l l be used.

F o r the bolt with th reads of M 12 to M 24, when unable tq be machined to the dimensions given above, the dimensions L and D sha l l be determined assuming that L = 3.54 Dl and P sha l l be determined assuming that P-L + approx. 10 mm. In t h i s case, the dimension .

1 1 2) Tes t ing ~ e t h o d s T h e t e s t sha l l follow the method specified i n J I S 2 2241.
(1.2) Tension T e s t s of Full-Size Bolt The tension t e s t s of full-size bolt sha l l be c a r r i e d out as descr ibed below: Put a wedge ( see Fig. 3) , not less than HRC 45 in ha rdness , beneath the bearing.face of a bolt as shown in Fig . 2 by employment of a j ig having sui table construct ion, shape , dimensions and suff icient rigidity. Mate i t s s lope to be in contact with a s ide of the hexagon head, and make the j ig o r a nut to engage with the threa$ed port ion on the opposite s ide s o that some six th reads of the complete threads remain unengaged in the head s ide of the bolt. Examirie whether the bolt b reaks o r not unde r the tension load in ax ia l d i rec t ion (min.) given in Table 3 , and examine whether the sepa ra t ion of bolt head br ings forth o r not when f u r t h e r increas ing the tens i le load until the bolt b reaks down.
In the event of the s c r e w th reads coming out due to col lapse of the s c r e w th reads , r e t e s t sha l l be made a f t e r e i t h e r improving t h e thread accuracy of the jig o r the nut o r by inc reas ing the engaging length.

(1) H a r d n e s s T e s t of Nut T h e h a r d n e s s t e s t of nut s h a l l follow the method specif ied i n J I S Z 2245. In t h i s c a s e , m e a s u r i n g p laces s h a l l be posi t ioned a t t h r e e po in t s p e r one sample on t h e bear ing face of the nut. Mean of t h e va lues obtained s h a l l be rounded off to a n i n t e g e r in a c c o r d a n c e with t h e r u l e provided in J I S Z 8401, and i t s h a l l be t aken as t h e h a r d n e s s of the sample.
(2) Guaran teed Load T e s t of Nut T h e guaran teed load t e s t of nut s h a l l b e performed in a m a n n e r s i m i l a r t o the bolt t ens ion t e s t d e s c r i b e d in 11.1.1 (1) (1.2) by engag ing a sample nut in p l a c e of t h e i n t e r n a l th read j i g and th-en by app ly ing t h e guaran teed load given in T a b l e 4 , and the e x i s t e n c e of a b n o r m a l i t i e s on t h e sample s h a l l be examined. T h e t o r q u e s h a l l be m e a s u r e d with t h e t o r q u e m e t e r ( s e e J I S B 4650) and t h e bolt a x i a l f o r c e with t h e ax ia l f o r c e m e t e r t o half t h e s c a l e i n t e r v a l of t h e m e t e r .
In t h i s c a s e , t h e w a s h e r s h a l l not t u r n . If t h e j i g which c o m e s in cqn tac t with t h e bolt b e a r i n g f a c e is equal t o o r h a r d e r than h a r d n e s s o f the w a s h e r , the w a s h e r a t t h e bolt b e a r i n g face may be omitted.
( 3 ) . T h e m e a s u r e m e n t s of t h e t o r q u e appl ied to t h e nut and the bolt a x i a l f o r c e produced by t h e t o r q u e s h a l l be c a r r i e d o u t at t h r e e p l a c e s under t h e bolt a x i a l f o r c e r a n g i n g as given in T a b l e 8. In t h e c a s e of m e a s u r e m e n t s with a t o r q u e t e s t e r , t h e m e a s u r e m e n t s may be made only a t one point n e a r t o the median of the value given in T a b l e 8.

12.3 Appearance Inspection T h e appearance inspection of a s e t shall be performed f o r the bolt, nut and washe r s constituting the s e t , and the r e su l t s of each pa r t shal l comply with the requirements specified in 8.1 to 8.3. The inspection f o r s u r f a c e defect sha l l be made in accordance with 11.3 and the s u r f a c e roughness inspection sha l l be made visually o r with the aid of su r f ace roughness measuring instrument specif ied in J I S B 0651 by comparing with the roughness comparison specimens specified in J I S B 0659.

1 2 .4 Inspection o n . ~ e c h a n i c a l P r o p e r t i e s
12.4.1 Inspection on Mechanical P rope r t i e s of T e s t P i eces Machined from Bolt T h e inspection r e su l t s on the mechanical proper t ies of t e s t pieces mechined from bolts shal l comply with the requirements of 4.1.1, when the test pieces a r e inspected on proof s t r e s s , tens i le s trength, elongation and re- duction of a r e a in accordance with the methods of 11.1.1 (1) (1.1).
In th is inspection, the cer t i f ied level of quality of the inspection lot(4) sha l l be laid down s o t h a t ' 1;s 0.125 % (5) (a+0.05) and 1:s 12.5$(6) ( 8<: 0.10).
