JINDAL SOUTH WEST STEEL State-of-the-art solutions for efficiency and productivity

FULL SPEED AHEAD FOR GREATER PRODUCTIVITY First high-speed 8-strand billet Caster in India

Jindal South West Steel (JSW) has commissioned the first eight-strand billet caster on the Indian sub-continent. With their comprehensive technological know-how, the long product experts of SMS Concast built a state-of-the-art caster – with all necessary equipment to achieve the required quality and pro-ductivity.

The caster at JSW is part of the company’s expan-sion program “Cheetah”. The aim: a production capa-city of 7.5 million t per year – which makes JSW the privately-owned steelmaker with the highest output in India.

EXCELLENT COOPERATION WITHIN

THE SMS GROUP

The project management and procurement was jointly made between two SMS offices, the head-quarters in Zurich and India Office in Pune. The majority of the engineering was also executed in the Pune office in coordination with SMS Concast Technologies in Udine. In addition to this vast colla-boration network, the ladle turret was engineered by SMS Siemag Hilchenbach with joint procurement with SMS Concast Zurich. Due to the close and result-oriented cooperation between all involved companies the project was carried out successfully and accurately timed.

8-Strand Caster

THE 8-STRAND CASTER AT JSWMaximum output with customized casting technology

Thanks to the tremendous progress in high-speed casting, especially through SMS Concast’s CONVEX Technology®, JSW reaches production rates of over 200,000 t per year and strand. The modern casting plant at Jindal incorpo-rates all the equipment and technology required for high-quality products: CONVEX Technology® moulds, electroma-gnetic mould stirrers, hydraulic oscillators as well as Conseal IV systems. The production process features hot discharging

and the caster is directly linked to the downstream wire rod and rebar rolling mills. In addition to the mechanical equipment, SMS Concast supplied the complete automation including the level 2 control which is linked to the plant’s level 3 system.
