If the highest form of flattery is imitation, Jim Bottrell has paid lots of compliments over the course of his career. Not one to reinvent the wheel, this retired Marine Corps

Major believes that the best way to be successful is to follow in the footsteps of those who already are.

That’s why, when he opened his own brokerage two years ago, Jim decided to pattern his company’s vision and methods after famed real estate coach and trainer Craig Proctor. Through seminars and training sessions, Jim learned how to implement the systems that Craig himself has used to sell more than a billion dollars of real estate. It was, Jim says, exactly what he needed to propel his business into the stratosphere.

Not that Jim really needed the help. Conscientious and disciplined, he had already had a taste of real estate success as both an investor and then a mortgage loan consultant. His vision was to offer first-class real estate customer service with unparalleled attention to detail and systems that helped agents thrive in the real estate industry. As a new agent, Jim was able to hit the ground running through his relentless work ethic and discipline that he learned in the Marine Corps. The result was an impressive sales record that saw him in the top two out of 180 agents at his company in only his second full year in business. But Jim wanted more for his business and for his clients.

“In real Estate, just like in the Marine Corps, integrity, leadership, discipline, and a very strong work ethic are critical for obvious reasons. You need somebody you can trust, somebody that will lead you through the process, and somebody that will work hard and smart for you,” says Jim. “You can accept no substitutions.”

Armed with that philosophy and his previous experiences in real estate, Jim set out to create what he thought would be the perfect real estate brokerage and Ardent Real Estate Services was born in 2012 after he got his Brokers license.

Today Jim and his wife Jessica are within the top 1% of agents in San Diego County and Jim has earned the Five Star Award, reserved for those agents exemplifying premier customer service, for four years running. Jim and Jessica “The Bottrell Team” has been recognized as one of the top

200 real estate teams in North America and they also won the “Quantum Leap Award” in 2013, an award given by Craig Proctor himself.

Not surprisingly, Jim is also a Titanium member of Craig Proctor’s coaching program, an invitation-only personal mentoring program for only 20 hand-picked real estate teams in all of North America. “Being one of 20 people in his personal mentoring program is the biggest advantage that anybody can have,” says Jim.

Systems Matter

Impressive to be sure. But for Jim, success is part expe-rience and part systematic approach – consistency and excellence will always get results.

“At any given time there are literally thousands of moving parts,” says Jim. “But our team and our company is organized and efficient so we can handle each one.”

One thing that sets them apart is the incredible level of ser-vice clients can expect when working with the team. “Some companies shuffle a client from person to person within an organization,” says Jim. “And while we do have multiple coordinators that are involved in each transaction, we use a “Single Point of Contact” system so that our clients only have one person that they will be dealing with. We run all support staff in the background which ensures constant com-munication and consistency throughout the process.”

By keeping such systems in place, Ardent Real Estate Services is able to offer exemplary customer service to every client they serve. No detail goes unnoticed. And, by setting goals and keeping track of changes and adjust-ments that need to be made, Jim is confident that his company will continue to grow in the coming years. With offices currently in San Marcos and Temecula, Ardent Real Estate Services is on track to have two more offices – one in South San Diego and North Riverside – by 2015. And with good agents and good systems, Jim and the com-pany consistently come in more than 15% above company goals each month.

But it’s not just numbers and systems. Jim truly cares about his clients – and his agents. “I believe in being a cli-ent’s agent for life,” says Jim. “I don’t plan on selling them one home then moving on to the next person. I will sell that person 5 homes over the next 25 years and then sell their friends homes as well.” So sure is he of his ability to meet his clients’ needs, he offers a guarantee to both his buyers and sellers. For buyers, if they don’t love their home, we will re-sell it for free. For sellers, homes sold at full asking price or they’ll make up the difference.

Risky? Not when you have the market knowledge and dedication to client satisfaction that Jim and his team provide. By listening to his clients and creating a plan for helping them find their dream home, Jim has an almost uncanny ability to pinpoint the perfect listing for his cli-ents. Conversely, by keeping his finger on the pulse of the Southern California market, running constant comparables and educating his team on market conditions, Jim knows almost instinctively what a home will sell for.

“We understand exactly HOW buyers look for homes and we position our listings in those locations in exactly the manner that the buyers are looking for them,” says Jim. “It’s quite a process, but our success and our statistics prove time and time again that we’re doing it better than other brokerages.”

Jim’s success hasn’t gone unnoticed by others in the industry. He’s frequently called not only to speak at local conferences, but across the United States and Canada as well. He also recently co-authored a book with Craig Proctor and Todd Walters.

A combat veteran himself, Jim has assembled a team of agents made up almost entirely of other combat veterans. Many team members have purple hearts and one even has a Silver Star for bravery in combat. “There are a lot of U.S. Marines alive today because of what Kris did that day in Fallujah – its quite a story and I’m glad to have him as part of my team.” The idea, says Jim, is to create a team with like experiences and similar work ethics. The team also works hard to give back to other veterans and is active in charities that support causes close to their hearts. One such program is the Wounded Warrior Homes and has committed to donating $500 for each referral home sold or bought to help returning wounded veterans transition back into civilian life.

“We’re always looking for great agents,” he states. “Everyone is welcome here as long as they have a strong work ethic and a desire to succeed. I created this company to be a strong force in the real estate industry and I believe we’re on the right track.”
