4.3 Starting the Jib Crane for the First Time

The Jib Crane was designed to assist in Liner Replacement. To ensure a trouble-free

operation the following simple steps should be followed:

The most important step is to walk around the unit to ensure that there is no dam-age to the unit. If any damage is found, repair damage before proceeding.

Check E-Stop buttons to ensure that they are pulled out and armed.

With the Jib Crane Boom in the Retract position, check the oil level in the Tank. NOTE: Do not overfill the Hydraulic Oil Tank. The Hydraulic Oil Level should be between 1-2 inches above the Lower Mount Bolt.

Check that the Power Selector Lever on the Electrical panel is selected to the ‘Off’ position. Connect the Power cord to a suitable power supply.

With the power connected, turn the Power Selector Lever to ‘On’. The White light on the Electrical Panel should light up. Turn on the Hydraulic Oil Heater and the Hydraulic Oil Cooler switches. If the air temperature is below 40°F (4°C), The Cold Hydraulic Oil light will Illuminate and turn on the Heater until the oil temp reaches 80°F (27°C).

Once the Hydraulic Oil Temperature has reached the startup temperature of 80°F

(27°F) the unit can be started. Note: If the unit is being started for the first time af-

ter storage, have one associate observe the rotation of the fan at the back of the elec-

tric motor, push the start button and then as quickly hit the ‘E-Stop’ button. If the

rotation is in the direction of the arrow on the motor, the rotation is correct.

With the rotation correct, crack open the inlet Vent Plug on the pump until

hydraulic oil comes out. This should prevent an airlock condition and allow

for faster priming.

Jog the motor by turning the motor on and quickly hitting the ‘E’-Stop switch. This

will prime the pump faster without causing damage should the pump start with air

in the system.

Once the Pump has been determined to be primed, start the unit, Press the Start but-

ton and the Green Motor light should illuminate.

Turn on Lights Switch.

To shut down unit, let unit run for three minutes without any hydraulic functions

operating and then push one of the ‘E-Stop’ Buttons. Turn off Power Lever.

5.1 Maintenance

It is important the "Jib Crane" be inspected regularly before, during, and after periods of

use. A schedule of periodic maintenance is recommended to keep the "Jib Crane" in an

effective and ready to use condition. See the list of recommended spares and the assem-

bly drawings further in this manual for details.

Check all bolts for tightness or for signs of stretching.

Replace bolts only with equivalent strength (grade 8) and install with appropriate

torque (see chart) and retention systems.

Check all controls and valves for proper operation.

Check all fittings and hoses for proper sealing, thread condition, abrasion, and

tightness.

Check all safety Lights and alarms for proper operation.

Check Hydraulic filter Indicators for Service while the unit is operating.

Check Hydraulic Oil level in the reservoir.

Check for discoloration or air bubbles in Hydraulic Oil through the Hydraulic Tank

sight glass.

Check and grease unit every 8 hours of operation.

5.2 Fastener Inspection

The bolts that are used to assemble the end caps to the barrel unit of the “Bolt Buster” are

continually subjected to extreme amounts of repetitive tensile shock load during usage. If

any bolts are removed for any servicing reasons, it is necessary to pay close attention to the

manner in which they are reinstalled. Please refer to the accompanying drawings and

charts. These fasteners must be of proper strength (grade 8) and have the proper torque ap-

plied to them on reinstallation. Any retention devices employed on the bolts (wired or

Locktite) must be reinstalled. Assembly bolts that have been insufficiently tightened or that

are loose while operating the Bolt Buster can cause very dangerous operating conditions

including possibly destroying the barrel assembly. See sketches, charts, and photos.

5.5.3.3 Winch Wire Rope Replacement The cable drum of the Winch has two cable

anchor slots, one for clockwise and one for

counterclockwise hoisting. Standard rotation

for hoisting is counterclockwise when looking

at the hydraulic motor of the unit. It is critical

to select the cable anchor slot which will per-

mit winding of the wire rope on the drum in

the correct direction of rotation. If the wire

rope is wound on the cable drum in the wrong

direction, the winch will have no braking ca-

pacity. Each winch is shipped with a label on

the drum, indicating the correct cable anchor slot.

Feed the wire rope through the cable anchor slot. Loop rope back into slot as

shown. Insert cable anchor into slot, small end first and long side nearest the drum

flange. Pull rope tight to wedge rope in slot.

On wire rope installation, care must be taken that the wire rope is wrapped com-

pletely around the cable anchor and properly pulled into the cable anchor slot in

the cable drum. The cable drum requires a minimum five (5) wraps of wire rope

for safety.

The winch operation is controlled by the Hoist lever switch on the pendant control

which has a raise, lower, and neutral position. Speed control in either direction is

obtained by modulation of the hoist lever switch. Maximum line speed in either

direction is obtained when the hoist lever switch is moved as far as it can go. The

disc brake of the winch will come on automatically when the hoist lever switch is

returned to neutral.

Always warm up equipment prior to operating winch, particularly in low ambient

temperature. Allow a few minutes for the Hydraulic Oil Heater to warm up the oil,

when the oil is warm, the cooling fan will turn on.

To ensure proper winch installation and function, raise and lower a full test load to

a safe height before using winch for regular operation at the start of each shift.

If, after a new installation, the winch does not function properly, refer to the

TROUBLESHOOTING section of this manual.

5.5.4 Three Stage Boom Inspection 5.5.4.1 Checking Side Play in Boom

Extend boom, check side to side movement and note any excessive movement.

Replace side guide pads if movement is excessive.

With Boom extended, check up and down movement; note any excessive move-

ment between Boom stages. Replace top and bottom guide pads if movement is

excessive.

With Boom extended, check up and down movement in Kaydon Pivot Bearing. If

excessive, replace Kaydon Pivot Bearing.

5.5.5 Power Pack Inspection 5.5.5.1 Checking Power Pack Hydraulic Level

Check that fluid level is located between the top and bottom line on the Hydraulic

Tank Sight Gauge. From the sight gauge observe the condition of the oil, if a

‘Milky’ color, the oil is contaminated with water and the hydraulic system should

be drained, flushed and refilled with the correct hydraulic oil.

Checks the operation of the Boom extend.

Check the operation of the Lift Winch.

Check the operation of the raise and lower of the Power Pack.

Check system for leaks.

With Hydraulic pump running, Hydraulic Filter condition gauge should read be-

tween 0-15 PSI (0-105kPa, 0-1 bar)

Check system pressure, should be 2000 ±250 psi (13790 ±1724 kPa, 138 ±17 bar)

5.5.5.2 Hydraulic Filter Replacement Disconnect power to unit and Tag Out.

Relieve any system pressure in

the filter line.

Place a suitable container un-

derneath the filter to catch any

leakage.

Remove filter by turning filter

element counter-clockwise.

lack of circulation flow

in the brake housing.

Determine cause of contamination, repair,

replace Hydraulic filter, and replace Hy-

draulic Fluid with the specified Hydraulic

Fluid.

Brake piston is seized

in the brake housing

because of contamina-

tion in the hydraulic

fluid.

Determine cause of contamination, repair,

replace Hydraulic filter, and replace Hy-

draulic Fluid with the specified Hydraulic

Fluid.

Excessive back pressure

in the return line of the

hydraulic circuit causes

the brake to release.

Change Hydraulic filter. Back pressure

should be less than 100 psi (689 kPa)

Control valve has incor-

rect spool which traps

hydraulic pressure in

the brake piston when

the control valve handle

is returned to neutral

position. For proper

function of the automat-

ic brake, both pressure

ports of the winch must

be open to the reservoir

in neutral position of

the control valve.

Control valve recently replaced with im-

proper unit, acquire correct valve.
