Network Controller – (full time studying 3rd year)
Render an effective and efficient ICT network support service to the Department.
Assist with the set-up of new IT equipment, both hardware & software.
Assist with the role-out of IT infra-structure within the Department and maintain such infra-structure.
Identify problems experienced by PC users with regard to computer hardware and software and rectify such problems by means of advice and/or assistance and hands-on support.
Activate intranet/internet services and render advice thereon.
Keep record of all enquiries/faults reported/assistance given and report thereon monthly and quarterly.
Provide inputs to IT related policies and procedures and ensure the successful implementation thereof.
Ensure that software is installed in line with the prescribed software licence agreements.
All hardware equipment is configured and maintained to specified standards.
All new hardware and software configurations need to be tested to ensure functionality within 8 working hours, excluding district offices.
Perform extensive troubleshooting before escalating calls.
Escalation of all calls should follow proper procedures (via supervisor) accompanied by relevant documentation.
Ensuring the signing of the Equipment Allocation Form and provide feedback to the supervisor.
Ensure that software is installed in line with the prescribed software licence agreements.
All hardware equipment is configured and maintained to specified standards.
All hardware and software configurations need to be tested to ensure functionality

The status of the calls should be reported to helpdesk Minimum of seven (7) completed calls per day. It is expected of the official to represent the IT unit at

IT-related calls. Escalation of all calls should follow proper procedures

escalation procedures should be followed. It remains network controller responsibility to track
developments with the vendor.All vendor reports should be submitted to the helpdesk
operator on daily basis. Active participation in policy development Provide inputs on procedure development and
improvement Participate in information sessions Provide continuo’s information to users on IT related
developments. Telephonic assistance to a user before assigning a call
to a technician Keep track of the status of all logged calls. Follow-up on all overdue calls with the technicians Helpdesk reports should be submitted on weekly
basis If a call needs to be escalated to vendors, normal
escalation procedures should be followed. It remains network controller responsibility to track
developments with the vendor. Keep a record of all vendor logged calls and submit to

Carnival Operator:
I traveled to approximately twenty cities and a few states in North America. I was interviewed by Away2Xplores representative/agent in South Africa and was accepted in Jan 2008 on behalf of the American Employee. Safety and security starts directly at the hiring process. Every employee performs a pre-employment drug screen and national background check. The safety and comfort of guests and the company’s success all depend on the performance of everyone in a drug and alcohol free environment.
Responsibilities
Long – Long hours: Carniival work can be demanding with irregular hours and little or no time off.
Every park has a strict schedule it has to adhere to; therefore they require flexible staff that is willing to work long, irregular hours.
I was expected to do all types of carnival work. Being part of this team requires you to adapt a
little and get used to the camp like living conditions in the park.
Own laundry and provided ourselves with food. We were responsible for cleaning our own
facilities. Our accommodation (bunkhouse) was just
enough space for sleep. Working with rides included extreme physical
work. After the tearing down of all the rides and
stalls is completed, the travelling amusement park will relocate to another town, this happens on average once a week.
After this, everything has to be set up all over

again which took approximately 8 – 10 hrs. During travelling from one town to another, I
had the opportunity to see much more of the USA than the average person.
The contract is usually between 6-11 months, depending on which month you left and for which employer you worked.
