Rose Family, In last month’s edition two upcoming changes for Rose High School were highlighted, the secure corridor and REFRESH. School cancellations delayed both changes. However, if you have had a recent visit to the school, you have noticed the installation of the new security doors that access the front and attendance offices. The installation of the buzz system is still in progress. Notification of its completion will be communicated along with information of any process changes for student and visitor check-ins. As for REFRESH, we’re rolling! Students have had the ability to access teachers for both academic and enrichment opportunities in a much more structured manner via FlexTime Manager. We encourage you to remind your child(ren) to register for sessions a week in advance. Now for this month’s edition I have returned to spotlighting alumni. This month’s notable alumnus is Brittany Avin, Rose graduate of the Class of 2011 and the Class of 2019 Convocation Keynote Speaker. Best part of being a Rampant (What made your experience at Rose memorable?): One of the best parts of being a Rampant was the people. The lifelong friends that I have now from my fellow basketball teammates and classmates at Rose are extremely supportive and encouraging. And the teachers were all excellent mentors that helped to prepare me for the future. They were passionate about teaching, which made me passionate about learning.
Advice for current Rose students: My advice for current Rose students is to live in the moment and enjoy your time at Rose. I think especially as seniors, you can become so focused on what the next steps will be and preparing for the future, that you forget to enjoy high school. Rose is a fantastic place, and soon all the exciting events will just be memories.
Share a memorable or unique experience you’ve had since graduating from Rose. My experience that influenced much of where I am today was receiving the National Scholars Program (NSP) scholarship from Clemson University. It was a full-ride academic scholarship that opened a lot of doors for me. I was able to study abroad at Cambridge University in England, and I went on a special educational trip to Bhutan and the Himalayas in Asia to study. NSP gave me wonderful friends, unique educational opportunities, and the support to pursue my passion for science.
Quote/Motto you live by: “If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.” Roald Dahl
In recent news: -The Rampant volleyball team was recognized as Academic Award winners for the 2017-18 academic year by the North Carolina Volleyball Coaches Association (NCVBCA). The winners will be recognized at the national level with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award and will be highlighted in a special publication. -J.H. Rose was named as a Green Ribbon School for the 34th consecutive year by the North Carolina Department of Education for our continued efforts to create an environment for academic and social success.

Academic Boosters
Fall Grant Spotlight: Mr. Daniel Niece
Academic Booster donor dollars funded the innovative Boss Laser grant
this fall. The requested laser will provide the opportunity to gain skills in
3D rendering, manufacturing, and marketing. (This will also help us offer
a class next year titled: “Art through 3-D Technology”. The course
description explains that “Students will explore and demonstrate mastery
of the operational capabilities of 3-D equipment such as printing, CNC
routing, laser cutting, and other technologies as available. Students will
also be responsible for establishing and maintaining an entrepreneurial enterprise in the 3D Design industry.
Students will explore the potential and limitations of 3D Printing, CNC design/functions, and Laser Cutting design/
functions through build intensive design projects.”
We hope to take the principles/skills used in the Technology Design & Innovation Class (EB Aycock) . . . to the next
level. The laser and this class will provide the opportunity for students to gain REAL WORLD SKILLS (helps to get a
job;) . . .
