It is my pleasure to extend a very warm welcome

to students and families who are joining us for the

first time and those who are joining us again. We

hope your time at JGDC is one of fun, learning

and community.

Sadly, dance education is currently a completely

unregulated industry. Anyone, with any amount

of experience, or even none at all, can open a dance school in Australia.

At JGDC, Dance education is our passion - We know its many benefits for

those who participate in classes, and we take our role as providers of

tuition very seriously. We proudly boast one of the most qualified teams in

Adelaide and are constantly looking at improving and upskilling our qualifi-

cations, experiences, strategies and knowledge.

Teachers must have an understanding of child and adolescent develop-

ment - socially but also physically. We are secure in the fact that our teach-

ers cause no harm physically to any student due to our strict adherence to

safe dance principles and in depth understanding of anatomy and physi-

ology. We care for our students as unique and individual people, pushing

them within their own limits, giving thought to their hearts and their minds.

You may notice our Newsletter is

divided into sections. These 5 areas

are our Core Values at JGDC, and

are the driving force behind every-

thing we do and every decision we

make. We expect our staff team,

our students and our families to

conduct themselves within these

Assistant Teacher Training Program launched for 2015

Congratulations to our 27 Student Helpers (Level One) and Assistant Teach-

ers (Level Two) who are participating in the JGDC Assistant Dance Teacher

Training Program (ADTTP) this year. We hope you enjoyed your Induction

JGDC is hosting a trip to Disneyland

Professional Development

Our team came together in January

to create our plans for the year and

participate in ongoing training

opportunities. The team created a

poster of their Vision for JGDC which

now proudly greets us as we enter our

office each day.

Jane and Debbie travelled to Sydney

to participate in a ‘Progressing Ballet

Technique’ conditioning workshop

and Jane and Kelly travelled to

Melbourne to host a networking and

development workshop for Dance

Studio Owners. We thank our entire

team for their commitment in

prioritising their ongoing Professional

Development.

Orientation Day

Our Orientation and Enrolment Day, held on January 22nd was bigger and

better than ever, a result of your feedback from last year. The Centre was

open longer to allow working parents to attend, and Pirouettes was also

open, and also very busy! This afternoon is designed to help relieve any

anxiety that new dancers may feel when first attending. It is also a wonder-

ful opportunity for dancers moving to our Academy from our Clubs to have

a look around and familiarise themselves with the three studios. Although

we had a large team rostered, we were very much in demand, with

unprecedented interest, so we thank you again for your patience should

you have experienced a delay.

Student safety

Student safety is a top priority at the Centre. We encourage all students

(and parents) to follow these procedures to alleviate any issues:

Students for all Studios are to meet in the waiting rooms in Studio 1

until teachers pick them up, and return them, as a group.

Bags are to be left in the student waiting areas.

Please do not congregate outside the windows of the other studios as

it is distracting to classes already in session.

All students are encouraged to wear easy to remove clothing over

their leotards until they enter the studio for class and put on again

prior to leaving the premises. These include summer dresses, zip up

jackets or t-shirts and shorts/skirts. Dance Shoes should also not be

worn outside of the studio. This both prolongs the life of the shoes and

also ensures the specialist dance floors are not scuffed and stained by

dirt. Crocs or slippers are easy to slip on over ballet or jazz shoes to

move between the studios.

Students under the age of 8 should not be leaving the waiting room

unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Teachers remind

students that they are required to remain in the waiting room until

their parent or guardian has arrived. We would appreciate this

message being reinforced to your child at home.

Referral Recognitionand Reward

The highest compliment we can

receive is when you refer JGDC to

your family and friends we really

appreciate the support of our

loyal dance families! If you

recommend friends or family to

our dance centre and they

subsequently enrol, you will

receive a $10 Thank You Credit

for any of our services including

tuition, parties or Leap N Learn

sessions.

enrolments, accounts and news-

letters are distributed via email. It

is of vital importance that we

have a current email address for

each of our members, in order to

communicate effectively with

you. Please notify us of any

changes to the email listed on

your enrolment form.

Goodwill ClothingDonations

Families attending our Modbury

North campus will have recently

received an Orange Goodwill Bag.

Goodwill urgently need the

community to donate quality

clothing. Clothing donations can

be made via our Collection Point

in the waiting room.

The Katrina Dawson Foundation

The Katrina Dawson Foundation was set up to

preserve and honor her memory, and is focused on

the education of young women - as this is largely

what we also focus on at JGDC, we will be

supporting her foundation this year on behalf and

in the name of every young woman enrolled. You

January Fires

Many of our families were affected

by the January bush fires. We would

like to offer our support to the

residents of Kersbrook and especially

the members of the Kersbrook

playgroup.

The playgroup lost its storage shed

containing the outside play

equipment. If you have any

outdoor equipment such as plastic

tables, slides, small cubby houses in

excellent condition, please contact the JGDC office and we will deliver the

items on your behalf.
