Help Wanted: Volunteers as Spiritual Direction clients

Spiritual Direction is concerned with helping a person directly with their relationship with God. The fundamental issue is the relationship with God and addressing the underlying questions “Who is God for me; and who am I for God?” Spiritual direction focuses on what happens when a person listens to God and responds to this God who wants to communicate with you.

A spiritual director is another person who helps someone in listening for God, responding to God, and living out the relationship with God more fully. The image for spiritual direction is 3 chairs: two people are in conversation, listening and responding to God. The 3

rd chair represents The

Holy Spirit, who is the real “director” of one’s relationship with God, and the Spirit is the real guide on someone’s spiritual journey.

And we need your help in this process! Rev. Dr. Janice Japp is preparing in the program “Seeking the Spirit Within,” which is training for spiritual direction. Janice is looking for 2 or 3 persons to volunteer as “clients” for her training in spiritual direction. There is no cost involved to the volunteers. Volunteers will meet with Janice once each month for a year, as she “interns” in the spiritual direction program. Time for meetings is flexible, according to the availability of the “directee.”

If you are interested, or for more information, contact Janice by telephone or text at (402) 650-0586. You may also email her at

[email protected]

This offer is open to adults, women or men welcome.

Palm Sunday Cantata

This year’s Easter Cantata is entitled “In My Place” Remembering Christ’s Sacrifice of Love. The cantata is a dramatic presentation depicting the Passion Story during Holy Week. You will hear choral arrangements of both familiar and new pieces along with a narration and dramatic readings representing the characters in the Passion story. We hope that you can attend the 10:45 service on Palm Sunday, April 14th to witness this touching piece of work by Craig Courtney presented by the Chancel Choir, accompanied by Tatyana Boellstorff with narrations by other members of Rockbrook UMC. The cantata will represent a beginning to our Holy Week experience and is sure to transform you to the proper emotional and mental frame of mind as we remember our journey to the cross, culminating in the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
