Jesus Christ Founded:The One, Holy, Catholic, And Apostolic Church

    By: Phil Friedl

The wise man will seek out the wisdom of all the ancients, and will be occupied in the prophets. He will keep the sayings of renowned men. i

Let no the discourse of the ancients escape thee, for they have learned of their fathers. ii

Despise not the discourse of them that are ancient and wise: but acquaint thyself with their proverbs. iii

Thus saith the Lord: stand ye on the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, which is the good way, and walk ye in it; and you shall find refreshment for your souls . iv

And the angel being come in, said unto her:Hail full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. v

    Profession of Faith

And I say to you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man alsoconfess before the angels of God. But he that shall deny me before men, shall be denied before the angels of God. vi

    I. I, Phil Friedl , with a firm faith believe and profess all and everyone of the things containedin that creed which the holy Roman Church makes use of: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; and in one LordJesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages; God of God,Light of Light, true God of true God; begotten not made, consubstantial with the Father by Whom all things were made; Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heavenand was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; crucified also forus under Pontius Pilate, He suffered and was buried; and He arose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures; and He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of theFather; and again He will come with glory to judge the living and the dead; of Whose kingdomthere shall be no end; and in the Holy Ghost the Lord and Giver of life, Who proceedeth from

the Father and the Son; Who with the Father and the Son together is adored and glorified; Who spoke by the prophets; and one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

II. I most steadfastly admit and embrace Apostolic and ecclesiastical traditions, and all otherobservances and constitutions of the same Church.

III. I also admit the Holy Scriptures, according to that sense which our holy mother Churchhas held and does hold, to whom it belongs to judge of the true sense and interpretation of theScriptures; neither will I ever take and interpret them otherwise than according to the

unanimous consent of the Fathers.IV. I also profess that there are truly and properly seven sacraments of the New Law,instituted by Jesus Christ our Lord, and necessary for the salvation of mankind, though not allfor every one, to wit: Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Penance, Extreme Unction, Holy Orders and Matrimony; and that they confer grace; and that these Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders cannot be reiterated without sacrilege. I also receive and admit the receivedand approved ceremonies of the Catholic Church, used in the solemn administration of theaforesaid sacraments.

    V. I embrace and receive all and everyone of the things which have been defined and declaredin the holy Council of Trent concerning original sin and justification.

VI. I profess, likewise, that in the Mass there is offered to God a true, a proper andpropitiatory sacrifice for the living and the dead; and that in the most holy Sacrament of theEucharist there is truly, really and substantially the body and blood, together with the souland divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ; and that there is made a change of the whole essence of the bread into the body, and of the whole essence of the wine into the blood; which change theChurch calls transubstantiation.

VII. I also confess that under either kind alone Christ is received whole and entire, and a truesacrament.

VIII. I firmly hold that there is a purgatory, and that the souls therein detained are helped by the suffrages of the faithful. Likewise, that the saints reigning with Christ are to be honoredand invoked, and that they offer up prayers to God for us, and that their relics are to be had in veneration.

IX. I most firmly assert that the images of Christ, and of the perpetual Virgin, the Mother of God, and also of other saints, ought to be had and retained, and that due honor and veneration are to be given them. I also affirm that the power of indulgences was left by Christin the Church and that the use of them is most wholesome to Christian people.

    X. I acknowledge the holy Catholic Apostolic Roman Church for the mother and mistress of allchurches; and I promise and swear true obedience to the Bishop of Rome, successor to St.Peter, Prince of the Apostles and Vicar of Jesus Christ.

XI. I likewise undoubtingly receive and profess all other things delivered, defined anddeclared by the Sacred Canons and General Councils, and particularly by the Holy Council of Trent; and I condemn, reject and anathematize all things contrary thereto, and all heresies which the Church has condemned rejected and anathematized.

XII. I do, by this present, freely profess and truly hold this true Catholic faith, without whichno one can be saved; and I promise most constantly to retain and confess the same entire andinviolate with God's assistance to the end of my life. And I will take care, as far as in me lies, that it shall be held, taught and preached by my subjects, or by those the care of whole shallappertain to me in my office. This I, Phil Friedl , promise, vow and swear-so help me God,and these holy Gospels of God.

This is a great sacrament but I speak in Christ and in the church. x

Conclusion #4:It can only be a great Sacrament of Marriage, if it is according to the rite that is used by the Church and being of course in communion with the successor of St. Peter. It is worthless if marriage is attempted outside of the Church.

Who has the authority in this Church?

And the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And seeing him they adored: but some doubted. And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations: Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And behold I amwith you all days, even to the consummation of the world. xi

    Conclusion #1:

There is a physical Church on earth, the Apostles and their successors have theauthority. Those who follow the Church must observe all things which the Apostles have held, as well as their successors have laid down.Jesus will never forsake the Church behold I am with you all days, even to theconsummation of the world. The Church can never depart from error in faith and morals.

Who is at the head of this Church?

Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said:

Thou art Christ, the Son of the Living God. And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I say to thee: That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church. And the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. And I will giveto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven. xii

Conclusion #1:There is a physical Church.Peter alone confess that Jesus Christ was God, thus was raised above all other Apostles.

Peter is at the head of all the Apostles, for Jesus Christ gave him alone theresponsibility of the keys. What are keys for? In the literal sense to lock or unlock a door. What do we do at night? We lock our doors to keep thieves out from breaking in.Jesus Christ built His Church upon Peter.Hell (Satan and his legions of fallen angels, nor heretics, apostates, schismatics, orinfidels) cannot destroy the Church or lead it into error.

How do we know that Jesus Christ wanted St. Peter at his head?

And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and thou, beingonce converted, confirm thy brethren. xiii

Conclusion #1:God cannot fail for He is of the Infinite Order, so thus Jesus Christ when praying forthe faith of St. Peter did not fail in obtaining it. I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not. His prayer was that of the infinite merit. Thus He obtains Peter and Peter'ssuccessors the gift of infallibility. And Jesus lifting up his eyes, said: Father, I givethee thanks that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always. xiv Jesus Christ prayed only specifically for Peter by name. He has not done that withanyone else throughout the whole collection of Holy Scripture. He tells Peter to strengthen the faith of his brothers, confirm thy brethren. That is hisfellow Bishops. That they be one with him, just like Christ is one with His Father.

When therefore they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon, son of John, lovest thoume more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith tohim: Feed my lambs. He saith to him again: Simon, son of John lovest thou me? He saithto him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep. xv

Conclusion #2: Feed my lambs...Feed my Sheep. Jesus Christ entrusted Peter to be the Shepherd of His flock. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep. xvi This isfurther proof that Jesus Christ is the good shepherd, we must continue to assume toothat Peter must be a Shepherd. For Jesus Christ instructed Peter to Feed mylambs...Feed my Sheep. And other sheep I have that are not of this fold: them also I must bring And they shall hear my voice: and there shall be one fold and oneshepherd. xvii

How do we know that the Church cannot error?

But if I tarry long: That thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house

of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of truth. xviii

Conclusion #1:The Church is the pillar and ground of truth.Pillars hold up a building, so truth are the pillars to the Church.

I have no greater grace than this, to hear that my children walk in truth. Who have given

    6

    7/18

testimony to thy charity in the sight of the church. xix

Conclusion #2:There is no greater a gift from God, that is grace, also to know that his children(meaning spiritual children) walk in truth. That is holding to the doctrine which theChurch professes. These souls, that is his children, give a testimony an example for all the Church to see. They are leading saintly lives.

Therefore as the church is subject to Christ: so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. xx

Conclusion #3:God is infinite. No being can over power God. The Church can never detach herself from Jesus Christ, either by error or by destruction.

What happens to those who do not obey the Church?

So that we ourselves also glory in you in the church of God, for your patience and faith, and in all your persecutions and tribulations: which you endure. For an example of the just judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which alsoyou suffer. And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed form heaven with the angels of his power: In a flame of fire, giving vengeance tothem who know not God and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.Who shall suffer eternal punishment in destruction, from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his power : When he shall come to be glorified in his saints and tobe made wonderful in all them who have believed; because our testimony was believed uponyou in that day. xxi

Conclusion #1:God punishes those with Divine Justice those who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. They will be casted into eternal punishment those who are against Jesus Christ.

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema. xxii

Conclusion #2: Any person who does not hold the doctrine which the Church holds is anathematized.

If any man come to you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into the house nor sayto him: God speed you. xxiii

Conclusion #3:If any person does not hold to the doctrine which the Church professes, which is thepillar and ground of truth, we are not to even receive them into our house.

    8/18

A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, avoid: Knowing that he that is such and one is subverted and sinneth, being condemned by his own judgment. xxiv

Conclusion #4:Since it is our duties to love our enemies as Jesus Christ has done, we admonish aperson not just once but even twice, who has deviated from the faith which the Churchprofesses. If that person does not listen to the plea of mercy, let them be abandon to thesword of justice by allowing them to follow falsehood over truth.

Therefore, brethren, stand fast: and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word or by our epistle. xxv

Conclusion #5:If we do not hold unto the traditions which the Church professes we can depart as aheretic, who being condemned by his own judgment. It proves that we must hold in reverence and honor both Holy Scripture andTraditions, whether by word or by our epistle.

How do you derive:One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church from Holy Scripture?

    One

Careful to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. One body and one Spirit. xxvi

Conclusion #1:Just as the soul is of divine origin for it commands (through reason & intellect) the

body, the soul and body are united as one. When separated, it results in death. When this bond is separated it results in a scattering. Look at Protestants, they contradict the Christian doctrine, Lutherans do not hold the same doctrine as Baptists, nor do Anabaptists. And all they did was separate their union with the Vicar of Christ!

One Lord, one Faith, one baptism. xxvii

Conclusion #2:One God: Three Divine Persons, Father-Son-Holy Ghost, but One GodOne Faith: The Catholic FaithOne Baptism: Meaning one rite. I am not saying that there is only one sacrament, but

rather there are seven, each having its own rite and cannot be deviated or changed. If deviated or changed it would be invalid, and if the invalid rite is put into practice itresults into a sacrilege.

That they all may be one, as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one inus. xxviii

    8

  • 8/14/2019 Jesus Christ Founded the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church

    9/18

Conclusion #3:Just as God, who being three Divine Persons, but still one God, is truly united. Forthere is no difference between the three Divine Persons. Just like God, who being threedivine Persons are perfectly united, so the members of the Church, whose number isrank among the thousands of thousands (Church Militant, Church Suffering, ChurchTriumphant) are perfectly united to one another.

One is my dove: my perfect one is but one. She is the only one of her mother, the chosen of her that bore her. The daughters saw her and declared her most blessed: the queens and concubines, and they praised her. xxix

Conclusion #4:The Church is allegorically speaking Jesus Christ spouse. Husbands love your wives,as Christ also loved the church. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. xxx We can justly conclude that no man may break up a marriage, as well as a woman ought not to come between married persons. We can justly say that no man may break up the spiritualmarriage between God and His spouse, the Church.

    Holy

But you are a chosen generation, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation. xxxi

Conclusion #1: A kingly priesthood: Saintly Men with great virtue (Humility, Chastity, Obedience)

Priesthood bestowed on the Apostles by Jesus Christ. Past down to their successors. High Priest represents St. Peter and his successors. A Holy nation: All people with working/harvesting virtuesLegitimate Sacraments (Seven Sacraments)

    Catholic

Built upon the foundation of apostles and prophets. xxxii

Conclusion #1:Old Testament: ProphetsNew Testament: ApostlesCatholics venerate both Old And New Testaments in Holy Scripture.Catholics defend the truth in the traditions of both New and Old Testaments.

For, as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving inmarriage, even till that day in which Noe entered into the ark: And they knew not till the flood came and took them all away. xxxiii

Conclusion #2:Outside the Church there is no salvation, just like outside the Ark of Noah all perished.

Conclusion #1:Traceable to the ApostlesGod founding the Church on the Apostles

Jesus saith to them: But whom do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said:Thou art Christ, the Son of the Living God. Conclusion #2:Traceable to the living successor of St. Peter (Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Pope). It can never be destroyed or lead into error.

How do we derive the Seven Sacraments from Holy Scripture?

    Baptism

Going therefore, teach ye all nations: Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. xxxvi

Conclusion #1:The Apostles were instructed to teach all nations and to baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.

Jesus Answered: Amen, amen, I say to thee, unless be born again of water and the HolyGhost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. xxxvii

Conclusion #2: Without the Sacrament of Baptism we will not enter Heaven.

    Holy Eucharist

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world. xxxviii

    Conclusion #1:

God is the bread that which we must eat if we wish to reign in heaven with Him.Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen, I say unto you: except you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. For my flesh is meat indeed; and myblood is drink indeed. He that eatheth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me: and I in him. xxxix

Conclusion #2: We must have the Holy Eucharist, if we wish for divine grace to reign in us.

And whilst they were at supper Jesus took bread and blessed and broke and gave to hisdisciples and said: Take ye and eat. This is my body. And taking the chalice, he gave thanksand gave to them, saying: Drink ye all of this. For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto remission of sins. xl

Conclusion #3:The institution of the Blessed Sacrament. It remit sins: by increasing sanctifying grace.By increasing sanctifying grace we sin less grievously. We first commit less mortal sins, then less venial sins, then when coming to perfection we slowly destroy our faults.

For as often as you shall eat this bread and drink the chalice, you shall shew the death of the Lord, unto he come. xli

Conclusion #4:For those who receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist relives Jesus Christ passion.

Therefore, whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread and drink of the chalice. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord. xlii

Conclusion #5:There is a difference between bread and the Body of Christ. There is a difference between wine and the Blood of Christ. If they are ignorant of that, they do it to their own condemnation.

    Confirmation

But you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you and you shall bewitnesses unto me in Jersualem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth. xliii

    11

  • 8/14/2019 Jesus Christ Founded the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church

    12/18

Conclusion #1:The Holy Ghost gives them the fortitude to be Jesus Christ's witnesses.

But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me. And you shall givetestimony, because you are with me from the beginning. xliv

Conclusion #2:The Holy Ghost imparts wisdom, meaning the truth.Truth clears ignorance and darkness.

    Holy Orders

And the saying was like by all the multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faithand of the Holy Ghost, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenasand Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostle: and they praying, imposed hands upon them. xlv

Conclusion #1:Establishment of Holy OrdersShows us the type of men that are required into Holy Orders: a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost.

Let a man so account of us as of the ministers of Christ and the dispensers of the mysteriesof God. xlvi

Conclusion #2:The apostles and successors of the apostles are truly the representatives of Christ.

For which cause I admonish thee that thou stir up the grace of God which is in thee by theimposition of my hands. xlvii

Conclusion #3:Live up to your vocation as a religious.

Then he saith to his disciples: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Prayye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest. xlviii

Conclusion #4:The Apostles and their successors are the laborers to His field. They are to gather souls for Heaven, as one harvests wheat for storage.

    Penance

He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: receive ye the HolyGhost. Who sins you shall forgive they are forgiven them: and whose sins you shall retain,

    12

  • 8/14/2019 Jesus Christ Founded the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church

    13/18

    they are retained. xlix

Conclusion #1:God chose them to be His representatives. The Apostles and their successors have the power to forgive sins of menThe Apostles and their successors can refuse to forgive sins of men

    Marriage

But from the begging of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause, aman shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife. An they two shall be inone flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. l

Conclusion #1:God made man and female to be together. That no man (or woman) should come between such a sacred union.

Husbands love your wives, as Christ also loved the church. li

Conclusion #2:Jesus Christ loves the Church much (an infinite love)Therefore man must love his wife so there cannot spring up another love for any other woman.

    Extreme Unction

Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the priest of the church and let them prayover him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall savethe sick man. And the Lord shall raise him up: and if he be in sins, they shall be forgivenhim. lii

Conclusion #1:Proves that God has His representatives (His Priests) on EarthProves the efficacy of the Sacrament.

Must I live a life according to the Gospel?

If you wish to save your soul, yes you must live according to the Gospel. But if you do not wish

to save your soul, then no you do not have to, and be damned through your own choosing. Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall beadded unto you. liii

Conclusion #1: We must first seek God, nothing else.

    13

  • 8/14/2019 Jesus Christ Founded the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church

    14/18

By seeking God first, we are rewarded with every desire we would have ever wished, eternal life.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and withthy whole mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. And the second is like tothis: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments dependeth thewhole law and the prophets. liv

Conclusion #2:The love of God, should be our supreme love, not creatures nor material things. For those who love God with a supreme love, fulfills the second commandment. For he who loves God, loves what God loves.

But unless you shall do penance, you shall all likewise perish. lv

Conclusion #3:Penance is necessary if we wish to save our souls

Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, thecharity of the Father is not in him. lvi

Conclusion #4:Those who love worldly things: honors, riches, power, beauty do not seek to please God but themselves. They are full of self love. Self love is sin, finally leads to perdition.

    Death of the Sinner

This I know from the beginning, since man was placed upon the earth, that the praise of thewicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment. If his pride mount up even toheaven, and his head touch the clouds: in the end he shall be destroyed like a dunghill; and they that had seen him, shall say: Where is he? As a dream that fleeth away he shall not be found: he shall pass as a vision of the night. The eyes that had seen him shall see him nomore: neither shall his place any more behold him. His children shall be oppressed withwant: and his hands shall render him his sorrow. His bones shall be filled with the vices of his youth: and they shall sleep with him in the dust. lvii

The way of sinners is made plain with stones: and in their end is hell, and darkness, and pains. lviii

Behold among his saints none is unchangeable : and the heavens are not pure in his sight. How much more is man abominable and unprofitable, who drinketh iniquity like water ? lix

When the wicked man is dead, there shall be no hope any more: and the expectation of thesolicitous shall perish. lx

    Death of the Just

    14

  • 8/14/2019 Jesus Christ Founded the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church

    15/18

The wicked man shall be driven out in his wickedness; but the just hath hope in his death. lxi

But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and the torment of death shall not touchthem. In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die; and their departure was taken for misery: And their going away from us, for utter destruction: but they are in peace. And though in the sight of men they suffered torments, their hope is full of immorality. Afflicted in few things, in many they shall be well rewarded: because God hath tried them, and found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace, he hath proved them, and as a victim of aholocaust, he hath received them, and in time there shall be respect had to them. lxii

With him that feareth the Lord, it shall go well in the latter end, and in the day of his death,he shall be blessed. lxiii

The just perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart, and men of mercy are taken away, because there is none that understandeth; for the just man is taken away from before the face of evil. Let peace come, let him rest in his bed, that hath walked in his uprightness. lxiv

    Final Conclusion

    1. Jesus Christ established a ChurchBehold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world. lxv This Church will last until his second coming, so shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just. lxvi

    2. Jesus Christ established His Church on the Papacy, the legitimate successor of St. PeterThere will be perpetual successors until the second coming.

    3. This Church has four marks, just like a table has four legs. Take a leg away, the tablefalls. If one mark is missing it cannot be the true Church.
