In John’s Gospel
•The Universe•All of Humanity•Those Hostile to
the Christ
Jesus and the World• The Universe (Creator)
John 1:3,10; Hebrews 1:1-4; John 17:5,24
John 1:3,10(3), All things were made
through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
(10), He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
Hebrews 1:1-4God, who at various times and
in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
John 17:5,24(5), “And now, O Father, glorify
Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.”
(24), “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”

John 1:29; 3:16-17; 4:42John 8:12 & 9:5; 12:46
John 1:29The next day John saw Jesus
coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
John 3:16-17For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 4:42Then they said to the woman,
“Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
John 8:12; 9:5(8:12), Then Jesus spoke to
them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
(9:5), “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
John 12:46“I have come as a light into the
world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”

• Those Hostile to Him (Enemy)John 3:19; 7:7; 15:18-19John 16:19-20, 33
John 3:19And this is the condemnation,
that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
John 7:7“The world cannot hate you,
but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil.
Jesus’ conversation with his brothers
John 15:18-19“If the world hates you, you
know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
John 16:19-20Now Jesus knew that they
desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’? 20 Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.”
World Thought It Had Won!
John 16:33“These things I have spoken
to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Conclusion Jesus came from
without the world (the universe) to save the world (all humanity). He chose disciples out of the world (all humanity) who were hated of the world (those hostile to Christ) even as they hated Christ, the Son of God.
