Observing the Lord’s Day— Though public Masses are suspended, we’re doing all we can to continue parish ministry – bringing it right to your home.
Fr. Liekhus will continue to offer a private daily Mass, as well as Sunday Mass, for the good of the faithful and for the Mass intentions of the day. Each Mass will be recorded and posted every morning to our website: www.stgabrielhopkins.org/worship.
You may also go to www.archspm.org/live to find other local and national TV, radio and online/livestream Masses.
While you cannot receive the Eucharist in this manner, you are invited to make a Spiritual Communion, praying the Act of Spiritual Communion below:
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Small Group Reflection
March 29– Fifth Sunday of Lent
Ezekiel 37:12-14; Psalm 130; Romans 8:8-11; John 11:1-45
Ezekiel was a prophet during the exile in Babylon; his tasks ranged from chastising and correcting to comforting and offering hope. His prophecies begin with divine judgment and end with consolation. Ezekiel paves the way for the extension of the Covenant to the Gentiles by expanding the Jewish conception of God’s providence to extend it into all nations. The Psalm reminds us the Lord is kindness and with him is plenteous (bountiful) redemptions/forgiveness for our sins. In Romans Paul tells us “those who live in the flesh do not belong to Christ, and are dead because of sin. Flesh is good in that it has its origin in God, and is still further given dignity when our flesh is assumed by Christ. Paul’s purpose is to motivate the Christians in Rome to shun life according to the flesh, and to live in communion with the spirit of God. Paul is not making a distinction between body and soul in which the body is evil and soul is good. He’s making a distinction between life with Christ versus life without Christ. The lesson in John is that we are often like Lazarus. We have areas in our lives that are dead and need to be enlivened again by Christ. But we also may be bound either by our own sins or by the hurts others have inflicted on us. We carry great burdens or worries or dysfunctional patterns of relating to others that bind us down and keep us from peace and happiness. Jesus wants to free us from those wounds; he wants us, like Lazarus, to be unbound. He wants our better selves to step forward as he says to each of us, “Come out.” In no other episode in the Gospel story is Jesus shown so clearly for what he is: the resurrection and the life. There’s no halfway in John’s Gospel. Once can walk in darkness or light, one is blind or sighted, one is alive or dead; no middle ground exists.
Do you think that miracles still occur in today’s world? Have you ever experienced a miracle in your life that you will share publicly?
How does the story of the raising of Lazarus show both Jesus’ human and divine natures?
How do sins that others have committed bind us?
Is there an area in your life that you would like Jesus to unbind?

Families Moving Forward St Gabriel's hosting of Families Moving Forward the week starting April 19, HAS BEEN CHANGED.
Beacon sent this note—
“To protect families and hosting vol-unteers, we have decided to shelter families in motels instead of host-ing congregations beginning March 22 and continuing through April 25. We will be monitoring the situation and will determine in April whether the motel period needs to be extended. We’ll be in touch with you as we have more information.
We are asking that congregations continue to provide meals for fam-ilies in shelter during their planned hosting weeks. We may also need a few volunteers at the program centers during this period. We’ll be in touch with you as your week nears with information about meal needs, where they can be delivered, and any other needs. “

Holy Land Parish Collection April 10
Pope Francis has asked us to help Christians in the Middle East through a parish collection for the Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land. The Holy Land collection aids the Church in nourishing parishes, providing support for Catholic schools, offering religious education, and providing food and housing for the poor. Donations also help in maintaining important Holy Land shrines of the Catholic faith. Because of violence and wars, causing unrest and instability in the Holy Land, including Syria, a portion of the overall collection will be designated for our archdiocesan relationship with the Archeparchy (Archdiocese) of Damascus to help with humanitarian aid and rebuilding the Church. “The Church works to safeguard the Christian presence in the Holy Land and to give voice to the voice-less” (Appeal for the Collection for Christians in the Holy Land, 2020, Letter of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches). Join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. Please be as generous as you are able on Good Friday! For more info, contact Mickey Friesen at [email protected].
Fellowship
2020 Guidebook & Ministry Fair
Sometime in April, all registered pa-rishioners will receive the 2020 Minis-try Guidebook & Directory. The front half of the book contains information on all the ministries and groups at St. Gabriel parish and the ways you can be involved. The back half is a direc-tory of all registered parishioners.
In the past, this mailing has been fol-lowed up with a Ministry Fair where you can talk with someone from the various ministries about opportunities and even sign up to join them. This year, there will NOT be a Ministry Fair. Instead, there will be cards in the pews the weekend of April 18/19 (provided public Masses can be celebrated again by then). Parish-ioners who would like to try a ministry can use these cards to indicate their interest and someone from the parish will reach out. Parishioners currently involved in a ministry don’t need to fill out a card—we are already so grateful for your participation!
DID YOU KNOW…?
In response to the call to “Give your time in prayer,” requesting your commit-ment to additional acts of worship during Lent, as of March 23, parishioners have promised an additional:
29 hours of Adoration
100 hours of prayer
148 rosaries
97 family prayer times
Per week!
Now that our communal worship has been greatly cur-tailed without the public celebration of the Mass, and so many of us are at home, please consider committing your additional acts of worship to this total. You can make your commitments known by emailing [email protected] or calling the office. Watch for an update on the totals!
Mary, Mother of the Church, Help of the Sick, pray for us.
St. Margaret’s Cemetery—Plant Stand Rental It is time to think about plant stands for your loved ones whom you have laid to rest at St. Margaret Cemetery.
All plant stands at St. Margaret’s Cemetery must be rented from St. Gabriel the Archangel Church and will be placed at the cemetery by the Cemetery Committee. This ensures both quality of the stand and proper placement. The Cemetery Committee will put in all approved plant stands for 2020 per re-quests received. St. Margaret’s Cemetery Policies will be enforced. Stands, flowers and decorations not in compliance with policy rules and regulations will be removed.
Depending on weather and our volunteers’ time, plant stands will be put in by Memorial Day weekend. The rental fee, which includes placement and removal, is $25 per season. The plant stand will hold a 10” to 12” flower pot and the flower pot and flowers are your responsibility. Flowers not watered and taken care of will be disposed of. All flowers must be removed by October 1.
If you don’t receive a mailing from the cemetery in the next few days, contact the parish office to reserve your plant stand.
Thank you for assisting the St Margaret Cemetery volun-teer committee. We are always looking for more volun-teers so please contact us if you are interested in helping!
