Participating students from Chinese classes at Jericho will be matched with Chinese students with similar interests from our sister school in China, Xi’an Middle School (the equivalent of a high school). You will host the student in January or February (2016) in your home for a week and stay in that student’s home in China in the fall (dates for fall 2015 are October 8th—18th).

The first 3 days of travel in China will be spent in Beijing, exploring and seeing famous sites and monuments. Some examples might be: the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Bird’s Nest, a Cloisonné Factory, A Performance at Shishahai Theater, an Authentic Tea Ceremony, a Rickshaw Ride, and much more…We also plan to visit an orphanage to meet the child that is sponsored by the Chinese classes and Honor Society.

We will then spend several days visiting and attending classes at the hosting school in Xi’an, China. While in Xi’an we will explore this very important city and its treasures. Some examples might include: the Terra Cotta Warriors, the Tang Dynasty Show, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Bike Ride Along the Ancient City Wall, the Shaanxi History Museum, and more...

Be a guest of a family in China during the fall, 2015.

Host a Chinese student during

The Chinese New Year 2016...

This experience provides an opportunity for Jericho students to use the

target language in everyday life. Students will live in and experience

Chinese culture and customs by living with a family, learning local

colloquiums as well as eating the local fare. The use of the target

language on a daily basis creates self-confidence, enhances proficiency,

as well as improving pronunciation. In addition, students will attend a

school that will provide insight into the Chinese education system.

The exchange program to China is an incredible opportunity and a

wonderful experience that will create memories for a life time!
