JERICHO RESERVOIR PROJECT

SERVICES AND SOLUTIONS FOR A LIVABLE REGION

To meet the growing demand for drinking water in communities south of the Fraser River, Metro Vancouver needs to construct a new, above-ground reservoir at 20400 - 73A Avenue in the Township of Langley.

Phase 1 of the Jericho Reservoir Project will include:

• An above-ground reservoir

• One above-ground valve chamber and three underground valve chambers

• Piping that will connect to existing water mains

The reservoir project will be designed to enhance the existing site. The Township of Langley and Metro Vancouver are working together to develop the proposed Smith View Park on the same property.

Phase 2 of this reservoir project is planned for 2040.

Project schedule - Phase 1

Metro Vancouver provides clean, safe drinking water for over 2.4 million residents in the Lower Mainland. Operating our vast drinking water system with a growing population requires constant upgrades, improvements, maintenance and expansion.

Commitments to the community

Metro Vancouver will:

• Work with the community to ensure concerns and interests are considered as part of project planning

• Host consultation events to provide regular updates as the project progresses

• Continue to work closely with the Township of Langley, as well as residents and schools in the area to identify potential impacts throughout the design and construction of the reservoir

• Continue to communicate with residents and businesses as detailed construction schedules become available

• Provide regular and timely construction information through fact sheets, newsletters, email, on-site signage and Metro Vancouver’s website

• Assign a Community Liaison Officer to the project to address public queries and concerns in a timely manner

Metro Vancouver’s reservoirs facts:

• Metro Vancouver owns and maintains more than 20 in-system storage reservoirs across the region.

• Reservoirs are refilled overnight to provide water supply during high water demand times—including early morning when many residents shower, flush toilets, prepare meals, and businesses open.

• All reservoirs are constructed to strict codes and standards and inspected regularly.

• Metro Vancouver reservoirs are constructed of concrete because they are relatively low maintenance compared to reservoirs made of steel.

• Reservoirs increase the reliability of water supply in the area, especially during the hot and dry season.

Preliminary site layout

Where does your clean, high-quality drinking water come from?

Metro Vancouver captures, stores, and treats your drinking water and then distributes it to our member local governments using a network of water mains, pumping stations, storage reservoirs and secondary disinfection stations.

The drinking water flows seamlessly into member local governments’ distribution systems, which deliver the water directly to residents and businesses.
