    Once upon a time

    there was a frog

    called

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher;

    3

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    4/60

    he livedin a little

    damp house

    amongst

    the buttercups

    at the edgeof a pond.

    4

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    5/60

    The water wasall slippy-sloppy

    in the larder

    and

    in the backpassage.

    5

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    6/60

    But Mr. Jeremy

    liked getting

    his feet wet;

    nobody ever

    scolded him,

    and he never

    caught a cold!

    6

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    7/60

    He was

    quite pleased

    when he looked out

    and saw large

    drops of rain,

    splashing

    in the pond-

    7

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    8/60

    - "I will get

    some worms

    and go fishing

    and catch

    a dish of minnows

    for my dinner,"

    said

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher.

    8

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    9/60

    "If I catch

    more than five fish,

    I will invite

    my friends,

    Mr. Alderman

    Ptolemy Tortoiseand

    Sir Isaac Newton.

    9

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    10/60

    The Alderman,

    however,

    eats salad."

    10

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    11/60

    Mr. Jeremyput on

    a mackintosh

    (rubber rain coat)

    and a pair

    of shiny galoshes;(rubber boots)

    11

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    12/60

    he took

    his rod and basket,

    and set off

    with enormous

    hops

    to the place

    where he kept

    his boat.

    12

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    13/60

    The boat was

    round and green,

    and very like

    the other

    lily-leaves.

    13

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    14/60

    It was tied

    to a water-plant

    in the middle

    of the pond.

    14

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    15/60

    Mr. Jeremy took

    a reed pole,

    and pushed

    the boat out

    into open water.

    15

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    16/60

    "I knowa good place

    for minnows,"

    (a small fish)

    said

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher.

    16

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    17/60

    Mr. Jeremy

    stuck his pole

    into the mud

    and fastened

    the boat to it.

    17

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    18/60

    Then

    he settled himself

    cross-legged

    and arranged

    his fishing tackle.

    18

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    19/60

    He had

    the dearest

    little red float.

    19

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    20/60

    His rod was

    a tough stalk

    of grass,

    his line was

    a fine long

    white horse-hair,

    and he tied

    a little wriggling

    worm at the end.

    20

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    21/60

    The rain trickleddown his back,

    andfor nearly an hour

    he staredat the float.

    21

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    22/60

    "This is getting

    tiresome,

    I think

    I should like

    some lunch,"

    said

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher.

    22

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    23/60

    He puntedback again

    amongst

    the water-plants,

    and took

    some lunch outof his basket.

    23

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    24/60

    "I will eat

    a butterflysandwich,

    and waittill the shower

    is over,"

    said

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher.

    24

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    25/60

    A great big

    water-beetle

    came up

    underneath

    the lily leaf

    and tweaked

    the toe of one

    of his galoshes.

    25

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    26/60

    Mr. Jeremy

    crossed his legs

    up shorter,

    out of reach,

    and went

    on eating

    his sandwich.

    26

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    27/60

    Once or twice

    somethingmoved about

    with a rustle

    and a splash

    amongst

    the rushesat the side

    of the pond.

    27

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    28/60

    "I trust

    that is not a rat,"said

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher;

    "I think

    I had better

    get away

    from here."

    28

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    29/60

    Mr. Jeremy shoved

    the boat out again

    a little way,

    and dropped

    in the bait.

    29

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    30/60

    There was a bite

    almost directly;

    the float gave

    a tremendous

    bobbit!

    30

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    31/60

    "A minnow!

    a minnow!

    I have him

    by the nose!"

    cried

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher,

    jerking up his rod.

    31

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    32/60

    But what a

    horrible surprise!

    32

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    33/60

    Instead of

    a smooth fatminnow,

    Mr. Jeremy landedlittle Jack Sharp,

    the stickleback,covered

    with spines!

    33

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    34/60

    The sticklebackfloundered

    about the boat,

    pricking

    and snapping

until he was quiteout of breath.

    34

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    35/60

    Then

    he jumped back

    into the water.

    35

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    36/60

    And a shoalof other

    little fishes put

    their heads out,

    and laughed at

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher.

    36

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    37/60

    And while

    Mr. Jeremy sat

    disconsolately

    on the edge

    of his boat-

    37

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    38/60

    -suckinghis sore fingers

    and peering down

    into the water-

    -a MUCH worse

    thing happened;

    38

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    39/60

    a reallyFRIGHTFUL thing

    it would have

    been,

    if Mr. Jeremy had

    not been wearinga mackintosh!

    39

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    40/60

    A great big

    enormous troutcame up-

    -ker-pflop-p-p-p!

    with a splash--

    and it seizedMr. Jeremy

    with a snap,

    40

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    41/60

    "Ow!

    Ow!Ow!"

    -andthen it turned

    and dived downto the bottom

    of the pond!

    41

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    42/60

    But

    the trout wasso displeased

    with the taste

    of the mackintosh,

    that in less than

    half a minuteit spat

    him out again;

    42

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    43/60

    and

    the only thing

    it swallowed

    was Mr. Jeremy's

    galoshes.

    43

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    44/60

    Mr. Jeremy

    bounced up

    to the surface

    of the water,

    44

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    45/60

    like a cork

and the bubblesout of a soda

    water bottle;

    45

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    46/60

    and he swam

    with all his might

    to the edge

    of the pond.

    46

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    47/60

    He scrambled

    out on the first

    bank he came to,

    47

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    48/60

    and

    he hopped home

    across the meadowwith his mackintosh

    all in tatters.

    (torn to pieces)

    48

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    49/60

    "What a mercythat was

    not a pike!"

    said

    Mr. Jeremy Fisher.

    49

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    50/60

    "I have lost my

    rod and basket;

    but it does not

    much matter,

    50

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    51/60

    for I am sure

    I should never

    have daredto go fishing

    again!"

    51

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    52/60

    He put somesticking plaster

    on his fingers,

    and his friends

    both came

    to dinner.

    52

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    53/60

    He could notoffer them fish,

    but

    he had

    something elsein his larder.

    53

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    54/60

    Sir Isaac Newton

    wore his

    black and gold

    waistcoat.

    54

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    55/60

    AndMr. Alderman

    Ptolemy Tortoise

    brought a salad

    with him

    in a string bag.

    55

  • 7/31/2019 Jeremy Fisher, Beatrix Potter, AutoPlay

    And instead

    of a nice dishof minnows,

    56

    they hada roasted
