Release Summary

Release Summary

Release 8.3.2 corrects and issue with a warning message that appeared too frequently when you imported flight plans.

Hardware Supported

FliteDeck Pro is compatible with certain mobile devices that run Windows 8.1 or higher. Among these devices are the Panasonic Toughpad, Samsung Galaxy TabPro S, Surface 2 RT, Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4.

FliteDeck Pro supports any Bluetooth GPS device that provides NMEA data using RFCOMM serial communication, such as Bad Elf.

Operating System Requirements

The minimum operating system requirement for FliteDeck Pro is Windows 8.1. FliteDeck Pro 8.3.2 has been tested and is compatible with Windows 10 Version 1511.

To check the Windows 10 version on your device

1. From Tablet mode, tap the Action Center button (at the right end of the Task Bar).

2. Tap All Settings.

3. Tap System.

4. Tap About.

Connectivity Considerations

To download updates, FliteDeck Pro requires a reliable Internet connection. The connection can be wired, wireless, or cellular. The time necessary to download and perform data updates depends on the speed of the Internet connection and the size of the data coverage area.

Upgrade and Deployment Considerations

FliteDeck Pro supports a commercial aviation business model and is released through available Windows distribution models.

The term upgrade refers to the act of installing a later version over a previous version without first uninstalling the previous version. When you update from previous versions of FliteDeck Pro, saved flights and any user-defined waypoints that are part of the route are preserved.

If you uninstall the app before you install a later version, you lose all saved data.

What’s New

What’s New

This section describes the new features found in this release of Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro.

• FliteDeck Pro release 8.3.2 addresses an issue with a warning message that sometimes appeared when you imported a flight plan.

• In FliteDeck Pro release 8.3.1, several improvements were made to improve FliteDeck Pro performance. Also, the operator acquired the ability to set the default value (On or Off) of the “View At All Scales” option for enroute map filters.

Issues Resolved

Issue Resolved in Release 8.3.2

This section describes the software issue that was resolved in the 8.3.2 release of Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro.

Warning Message Appeared Too Often for Imported Flight Plans

Issue: When you imported a flight plan, FliteDeck Pro sometimes responded with a warning message when the flight plan was actually valid.

This issue has been resolved. The warning message now appears only when you import an invalid flight plan. (WINRT-12678)

FliteDeck Was Not Listing Certain Approach Charts

Issue: Under rare circumstances, Flitedeck Pro did not include an approach chart in the chart selection list. This issue occurred when the chart had a name that included a single-digit runway identifier without a leading zero while there were other charts designating the same runway with a leading zero. For example, if an airport contained two approach charts, one named RNAV (GPS) RWY 3 and the other named VOR RWY 03, then the chart named RNAV (GPS) RWY 3 did not appear in the chart selection list.

This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-12704)

Issues Resolved in Release 8.3.1

This section describes the software issues that were resolved in the 8.3.1 release of Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro.

Unable to Launch the Application from a URI

Issue: A “Device Already Registered” error sometimes appeared incorrectly when you launched FliteDeck Pro from a URI (flitedeckpro:// or jdmpro.jeppesen://).

This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-12149)

Issues Resolved

VFR Objects Showing In Search Results

Issue: When you searched enroute map objects, FliteDeck returned VFR results even when Display VFR Theme is set to Off in FliteDeck App Settings.

This issue has been resolved. Now, only IFR enroute map objects are returned in the search results when Display VFR Theme is set to Off. (WINRT-12413)

Slow Performance

Issue: FliteDeck Pro sometimes exhibited slow performance. To help improve performance, the following modifications were made:

• FliteDeck Pro has been integrated with the latest update to the Jeppesen Enroute Chart Rendering Engine (C2E). (WINRT-12415)

• The operator can now turn off the Show At All Scales option in the configuration file, making the option unavailable in the app. Refer to the FliteDeck Administrator Guide to see the revised configuration file. (WINRT-12412)

• FliteDeck no longer displays the Atlas mode, showing different colors for nations on the enroute map when you are zoomed out far enough to display whole continents. Nations now appear in the same color. (WINRT-12414)

• FliteDeck uses a more efficient form of incremental rendering of the enroute map. Now, FliteDeck is not slowed significantly when you initiate a new gesture (for example, zooming or panning) at the same time FliteDeck is rendering a view. (WINRT-12416)

Wrong Identification Showing for Tailored Text Manuals

Issue: In the list of manuals displayed from the Updates flyout, FliteDeck Pro 8.3 showed the wrong identification for tailored company manuals. This issue has been resolved. The correct manual description now appears for tailored company manuals. (WINRT-12352)

Blank Mid-Cycle Term Charts with EDAL01 Dataset

Issue: Somes charts, in the EDAL01 dataset effective March 31, were not rendering correctly in FliteDeck Pro 8.3. A blank screen appeared instead of the chart. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-12404)

Issues Resolved in Release 8.3

This section describes the software issues that were resolved in the 8.3 release of Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro.

Selecting Clearing Custom Content Does Not Always Clear the Route in Enroute

Issue: If you were viewing Terminal Charts and selected Clear Custom Content from the FliteDeck Pro App Settings , FliteDeck Pro did not always remove the current route from Enroute. If this issue occurred and you reopened Terminal Charts, the application could also repopulate the chart clip. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-7894)

Issues Resolved

The Deactivate Option in FliteDeck Pro App Settings Can Be Changed During Updates

Issue: When FliteDeck Pro is updating data, the Deactivate option in FliteDeck Pro App Settings is supposed to be disabled. However, the Deactivate slider could be switched to On during the update process. Changing the setting to On normally deactivates the application on the device, but if it was moved to On during an update, the application remained active. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-7228)

After Loading Turbulence Data to Zoom Scale 400, Zooming to 399 Displayed Surface Observations

Issue: At a specific zoom scale, the load turbulence data was not properly displayed. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-7241)

The GPS Status Message Does Not Appear as Needed for Approach Charts that Are Not Georeferenced

Issue: Charts that were not georeferenced did not show the proper tags in the application when the GPS was active in Terminal Charts. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-6571)

After Restarting the Application, Terminal Charts Displayed the Last Viewed Origin Chart

Issue: If you restarted the application after viewing terminal charts, FliteDeck Pro displayed the last-viewed origin chart the next time you opened Terminal Charts. This issue occurred whenever the new route had an origin airport with charts. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-7400)

FliteDeck Pro Sometimes Displayed the Chart for a Recently Searched Airport Instead of the Airport in the Current Route

Issue: In some cases, FliteDeck Pro displayed a chart for a recently searched airport instead of the airport in the route. This error occurred when you searched for an airport, displayed the chart for that airport, created a route in the Enroute Flight Info drawer, and then reopened Terminal Charts. Instead of displaying terminal charts for the airports in the route, FliteDeck Pro could displayed the chart for the recently searched airport. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-7657)

When You Manually Updated Weather, FliteDeck Pro Sometimes Did Not Indicate That the Data is Refreshing

Issue: When you manually updated the Enroute or Terminal Chart weather, FliteDeck Pro occasionally did not indicate that the information was being updated. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-7278)

© 2016 Jeppesen, All Rights Reserved Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro Release Notes5

Issues Resolved

Losing Network Connectivity During a Weather Update Did Not Generate a Connectivity Warning

Issue: If you were updating the Enroute weather data and the device lost network connectivity, FliteDeck Pro did not display a warning. Instead, the update process indicator continued to run indefinitely. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-7230)

Remarks Line in the Decoded Tab Displayed the Raw Weather Data

Issue: The remarks line in the Decoded tab sometimes displayed raw data. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-5334)

Issues Resolved in Release 8.2.1

This section describes the software issues that were resolved in the 8.2.1 release of Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro.

Route Went Away After Entering STAR in Route Drawer

Issue: In Enroute view, the route that you entered disappeared from the Route Drawer when you entered the route before entering the STAR. This issue has been resolved. You can now enter the route before or after entering the STAR. (WINRT-8739)

Charts Did Not Load Properly

Issue: In some instances, a blank chart appeared with the loading indicator when you attempted to open a chart. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-8823)

Latitude/Longitude Displayed in the Format

Issue: The latitude/longitude coordinate format in the route drawer and on the enroute map displayed in the format Nxx.xxWxx.xx. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-8752)

Wrong Chart Appeared when Toggling

Issue: When you displayed a chart that was revised midcycle and then toggled between the effective and expired versions of the chart, the wrong chart sometimes appeared. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-8620)

Issues Resolved in Release 8.2

This section describes the software issues that were resolved in the 8.2 release of Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro.

© 2016 Jeppesen, All Rights ReservedJeppesen FliteDeck Pro Release Notes6

Issues Resolved

Decoded TAF and METAR Fields Were Sometimes Missing Data Although the Raw Data Was Accurate

Issue: In some instances, the TAF and METAR weather information that FliteDeck Pro displayed was inaccurate or was missing despite the raw data being complete and accurate. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-6760)

Scrolling Was Limited in the Category Lists of Some Terminal Charts

Issue: When you scrolled through the category lists to locate an approach, FliteDeck Pro sometimes did not permit you to scroll to the top of the list. Under certain conditions, you were unable to select particular approach charts after you scrolled to locate them. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-5539)

SID Charts Were Not Ordering Correctly in the Category Flyout

Issue: In the Category flyout, the SID advisories were not always in the proper order. This issue has been resolved, and the advisories now appear in the appropriate order. (WINRT-5537)

Waypoints Do Not Always Stay Highlighted When Selected From the Multiple Objects Box

Issue: Typically, when you select a waypoint, the waypoint is highlighted in magenta on the Enroute map. However, in certain instances, when airways were displayed and you selected a waypoint from the Multiple Objects dialog box, the selected waypoint did not remain highlighted on the map. In these instances, the waypoint was highlighted only momentarily. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-4888)

Manipulating a Chart While Selecting Another Chart Caused the Application to Shut Down

Issue: If you manipulated the chart, such as by zooming or panning, and simultaneously selected another chart from the Terminal Charts list, FliteDeck Pro sometimes shut down unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-4887; WINRT-4826)

Highlighting a Terminal Chart Did Not Always Work When Zoomed

Issue: If you had zoomed in on a chart such that only a small portion of the chart was visible within Terminal Charts, the application sometimes disabled the ability to pan or highlight the chart. This issue has been resolved; highlighting and panning are enabled regardless of the zoom level. (WINRT-4882)

Highlight Opacity Was Not Consistent

Issue: When you highlighted a chart, then closed the chart, and then later reopened the chart to add another highlight, the first highlight mark was clearly more opaque than the newer one. When repeated multiple times, the original highlight would become so opaque that it obscured the chart. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-4867)

Issues Resolved

Charts Appeared Blank in Terminal Charts

Issue: Under certain conditions, Terminal Charts displayed a blank chart. This issue might have occurred when you opened a chart and manipulated it, and then opened another chart, opened Enroute, or closed the application. When you reopened the original chart, it would sometimes appear as a blank chart. This issue has been resolved. (WINRT-4814)

Known Limitations

Known Limitations

This section describes the known limitations to the Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro 8.3.2 release. The descriptions include a mitigation strategy when available.

FliteDeck Pro Quits on the Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

Issue: FliteDeck Pro might quit on startup if you are using a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book. This event usually occurs immediately after the chart begins to load. This issue is caused by a problem with the Intel graphics driver. Version 20.19.15.4326 of the Intel® HD Graphics 520 driver has known compatibility issues with many graphics applications.

Mitigation: Ensure that your device is running Windows 10 Version 1511 or later.

Ownship Does Not Change to Nondirectional on Surface 3 LTE With Internal GPS

Issue: You can display the ownship symbol in FliteDeck Pro when your device has GPS func-tionality. (Also, in the App Settings, the Enable Moving Map or the Display Ownship on Airport Diagram setting must be set to On.) The symbol changes to a nondirectional ownship symbol when ground speed is zero. However, the directional ownship symbol appears at zero ground speed on Surface 3 LTE devices with internal GPS. (WINRT-12000)

Mitigation: None at this time.

Terminal Charts on the Selected Charts Bar Are Missing Note Badges

Issue: When you enter notes on a terminal chart, a badge appears on the Selected Charts bar. Sometimes this badge does not appear when notes have been added. (WINRT-11840)

Mitigation: Scroll through the Selected Charts Bar. The Notes badges should reappear.

An “Updates Completed” Message Appears When an Update Is Interrupted

Issue: If the data update process is interrupted, for example, by a temporary loss of connec-tivity, the update process resumes when connectivity is restored. When the download is completed, FliteDeck Pro displays the message “Updates Completed.” Currently, this message might appear when connectivity is disrupted and the update process is not actually complete. (WINRT-11676)

Mitigation: None at this time. The next time you connect, FliteDeck Pro will indicate that updates are ready to be downloaded.

An Imported Route Description with Erroneous CRLF Fails to Load

Issue: A flight plan might derive from AFTN FPL messages. The flight plan has a Type15 route string in the RouteDescription element and no waypoints in the waypoints element. On occasion, these flight plans might contain an erroneous CRLF embedded in a token. The application generates a Load Flight Failed message. (WINRT-11430)

Mitigation: None at this time.

© 2016 Jeppesen, All Rights Reserved Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro Release Notes9

Known Limitations

The Search Feature Cannot Find a User Waypoint

Issue: The Search feature in FliteDeck Pro allows you to find airports, navaids, and waypoints by entering search criteria. Currently, this search feature does not find user-defined waypoints.(WINRT-11365)

Mitigation: None at this time.

TOC/TOD Route Points Cannot Be Edited on the Enroute Map

Issue: Some 633 routes include special Top of Climb (TOC) and Top of Departure (TOD) points. If the 633 route includes these points, you might be unable to edit them directly from the enroute map. (WINRT-11341)

Mitigation: Edit TOC/TOD points from the route description in the Flight Info drawer.

After Locking the Display in Desktop Mode the Chart Still Rotates

Issue: The display lock feature locks the current view so that you do not accidentally pan or zoom away from information that you need. (You access the display lock feature from the Display Lock icon on the FliteDeck Pro toolbar.) When you attempt to lock the display in Desktop mode in Windows 10, the view does not lock. (WINRT-10557)

Mitigation: Jeppesen recommends that you use FliteDeck Pro only in Tablet mode on Windows 10 devices.

A Double-Tap on App Settings Button Opens the Update Screen

Issue: When you quickly double-tap the App Settings button in Terminal Charts view, the data update screen opens. The system sees this double-tap as two taps: the first to open the App Settings popover and the second to open Updates. (WINRT-9592)

Mitigation: Single-tap the App Settings button to open the App Settings popover.

Using Rubberband Routing When Zoomed Out Might Cause a Blank Waypoint to Be Selected

Issue: If the edges of the globe appear on the Enroute map, FliteDeck Pro might select a blank waypoint when you drag the route to the edge of the globe. When FliteDeck Pro displays the object details for the new waypoint, the Lat/Long field is blank. When this error occurs, the waypoint is selected as a Favorite. (WINRT-7600)

Mitigation: None at this time.

The ICAO Label Is Obscured at Some Zoom Scales

Issue: In some instances, you can zoom the Enroute map in such a way that the ICAO identifier of the displayed airport is obscured. (WINRT-6178)

Mitigation: To see the ICAO information, manipulate the map by zooming in further, zooming out, or panning.

© 2016 Jeppesen, All Rights ReservedJeppesen FliteDeck Pro Release Notes10

Known Limitations

An Expired Terminal Chart Remains in the Clip for a Revised Chart After Date Change and Restart

Issue: In some instances, an expired chart can remain in the chart clip. This issue might occur if a chart is valid when you close FliteDeck Pro, but expires before you reopen the app. (WINRT-7304)

Mitigation: Remove the chart from the clip.

The Correct Terminal Chart View Is Not Always Displayed When the Default View Is Changed

Issue: In some instances, FliteDeck Pro does not display the charts in the correct mode. This issue might occur if you view a chart and then change the default view in FliteDeck Pro App Settings. For example, assume that you have 15 charts in the chart clip and you view them in Full Chart mode. After viewing each of them, you change the mode to Fit to Width. In this instance, FliteDeck Pro might continue to display the charts in Full Chart mode. (WINRT-6896)

Mitigation: If this error occurs, in most instances FliteDeck Pro begins to display the charts in the newly selected mode after you swipe through several charts in the chart clip.

After You Change the Chart Category, FliteDeck Pro Does Not Display the Correct Chart

Issue: In some instances, FliteDeck Pro does not display the correct terminal chart. This issue might occur if you view a chart in one category, switch to another category, and then return to the original category and chart. (WINRT-6894)

Mitigation: Manually reselect the desired chart.

Two-Finger Swiping a Terminal Chart Pans the Chart Instead of Selecting the Next Chart

Issue: A two-finger swipe typically scrolls to the next chart in the chart clip. However, if you view FliteDeck Pro in portrait orientation but the charts are oriented for landscape viewing, a two-finger swipe might pan the chart. (WINRT-12198)

Mitigation: When this error occurs, pan to the edge of the chart. When you swipe again, FliteDeck Pro displays the next chart.

Enabling Reset User Settings in Track Up Does Not Automatically Switch Range Ring Display to North Up

Issue: If you view Enroute in Track Up orientation with Range Rings on, FliteDeck Pro might not switch the Range Rings display to North Up orientation when you select Reset User Settings in the FliteDeck Pro App Settings. (WINRT-4391)

Mitigation: To refresh the Range Rings display to show North Up, pan or zoom the map.

© 2016 Jeppesen, All Rights Reserved Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro Release Notes11

Known Limitations

The Lat/Long Information for a User-Defined Waypoint Disappears When You Pan the Map

Issue: After you create a user-defined waypoint and make it a favorite (by tapping the star in the Waypoint box), FliteDeck Pro marks the waypoint on the map in magenta. FliteDeck Pro also includes the lat/long information for that waypoint. In some instances, if you open the Waypoint box, add the waypoint to the route, and then tap New Flight in the Flight Info drawer, the lat/long information disappears from the map. (WINRT-7138)

Mitigation: If the lat/long information for a user-defined waypoint does not appear, pan the map. FliteDeck Pro refreshes the map and the displays the lat/long information.

In Night Theme, the Icing Legend Does Not Match Displayed Colors

Issue: When you view FliteDeck Pro in Night Theme, the Icing legend does not match the colors that are displayed on the Enroute map. The legend colors are typically darker than what is displayed on the map in Night Theme. (WINRT-5386)

Mitigation: None at this time.

Enroute Intersection Info Flashes White Momentarily in Night Mode

Issue: In some instances when you select the Intersection Info button from the details box while Enroute is displaying in Night Mode, FliteDeck Pro displays the information in Day Mode momentarily before returning to Night Mode. If this issue occurs, the Day Mode display might appear as a bright flash. (WINRT-7904)

Mitigation: None at this time.

During the Reinstall Process, the “Device Already Registered” Message Appears

Issue: If you uninstall FliteDeck Pro and then reinstall the app, the “Device Already Registered” message might appear during the installation process. This message is not supposed to appear because FliteDeck Pro deactivates the application when it is uninstalled. (WINRT-7358)

Mitigation: If this message appears, tap OK in the error message box. Doing so begins the installation process.

After Deactivation, the App Crashes During Activation

Issue: In some instances, when you deactivate FliteDeck Pro and then reactivate it, FliteDeck Pro becomes unresponsive. This error occurs when you open the activation email and click the activation link before FliteDeck Pro has fully deactivated the app. (WINRT-7272)

Mitigation: When you deactivate the app, wait for FliteDeck Pro to display the “Missing Activation Link” message before clicking the activation link.

© 2016 Jeppesen, All Rights ReservedJeppesen FliteDeck Pro Release Notes12

Known Limitations

An Initialization Error Occurs When WiFi Off Is Turned Off Before an Update Finishes

Issue: When you click the Close (X) button on the Updates dialog after a “Network Loss” noti-fication, the application can enter a state in which data engines do not initialize and a blank white screen appears. (WINRT-7058)

Mitigation: Reenter the Updates Dialog, refresh if necessary, and close the dialog to reini-tialize the data engine.

When the Category Flyout is Opened, the Displayed Chart Proc ID Does Not Show

Issue: When you display a chart and tap the associated Category button, the displayed Proc ID should appear on the flyout without requiring scrolling. Currently, the information on the flyout always starts from the top. If the displayed chart is at the bottom of the flyout list and the list is off the page, you must scroll through the list to see it. (WINRT-5844)

Mitigation: Scroll the window to bring the desired information into view.

Regional and Reference Notes Flash Before Being Displayed

Issue: In Enroute, Regional and Reference Notes flash before being displayed but Operational Notes appear without flashing. (WINRT-4443)
