Hydrangea There are three main types of hydrangea grown in Manitoba. They are the Mophead & Lacecap Type, Pee Gee Type and the Annabelle Type. All groups are a wonderful addition to any landscape with their late summer to fall blooming period.

Mophead & Lacecap Types Mophead and lacecaps have thick green leaves with round flower heads that tend to be blue or pink. They require a sheltered location

and full sun to part. Prune in early spring.

Paniculata Type Paniculata type Hydrangeas are a hardy group that can tolerate drier conditions then the other types. They have large cone shaped flowers ranging from white to pink. Prune in late fall or early spring.

Annabelle Type

Annabelle types have large round blooms from midsummer to late fall. They prefer a moist but well drained location. They make excellent cut flowers. Prune dead wood in early spring.
