Personal Learning - Proposal Topic Online dating is a system used to allow individuals, couples and groups to make contact and communicate with each other over the Internet, usually with the objective of developing a personal, romantic, or sexual relationship. Online dating services generally require a prospective member to provide personal information, before they can search for other individuals using criteria they set, such as age range, gender and location. Most sites allow members to upload photos of them as well as browse the photos of others. They offer additional services such as webcasts, online chat, winks, message boards, telephone chat. For this assignment I have decided to research deeper into dating sites. I believe this is a form of social media because you are creating a personal profile that includes your pictures, interests, goals and dreams. Personal Learning - Proposal

Topic

Online dating is a system used to allow individuals, couples and groups to make contact and communicate with each other over the Internet, usually with the objective of developing a personal, romantic, or sexual relationship.

This is then broadcasted within the dating network to hopefully be matched with a potential future life partner.

Plan of Study

Is this website a successful way to meet a potential lifelong partner by matching your personal profile?

How do social networks affect individuals in a positive or negative dating life?

Comparing EHarmony.com vs. Match.com

Learning Goals

-Different types of dating sites that can be used and how affective are these sites?-How do these sites determine who is compatible and who is not? What information is needed?-Access to your personal information/is it safe?-How can online dating have an effect on your daily life?-Who is using online dating?-Stats

Deliverable

To deliver the information I have found during my study on online dating sites, I will be signing up for an account on EHarmony.com. EHarmony offers a free trial for the first month and will provide me with individuals I am compatible with in my local area. From here I can determine the main source of personal information used and how many people are using this site to find a life partner. As well, I will be comparing EHarmony.com to their main competition, Match.com.

From here I can present how many local singles I am compatible with, what information was needed to conduct a search for a match, how personal the information needed is, as well as if I found it affective or not.
