entrepreneurial, early life cycle, nonprofit organization experiencing rapid growth.

Qualified Health Support Center. Raised over $100,000 in the development and

implementation of a signature special event for two consecutive years.

- Director of Marketing, Corpus Christi Blue Angels Air Show, 2005, 2007. Secured federal

contract to solicit corporate support on behalf of the U.S. Navy Morale, Welfare, and

Recreation programs. In less than 60 days, secured over $65,000 in direct corporate

support, of which 63% represented new donors; negotiated $85,000 in in-kind donations.

- Interim Executive Director, Harbor Playhouse, 2003-2004. Recruited to rebuild local

performing arts organization on the brink of bankruptcy. Responsibilities included

operations, fiscal management of an operating budget of $500,000; marketing, public

relations, fundraising, and the supervision and leadership of seven employees and over

300 volunteers.

- Director of Development, American Cancer Society, Florida Division, 1999-2000. Served as

Development Director of two counties in Northwest Florida. Managed multiple annual

fund revenue sources including special events, major gifts, planned giving, corporate

sponsorship, memorials, and direct mail. Raised special event income 61% over the

previous year’s net, surpassed annual goal in special events revenue by 31%, $468,000.

Service Highlights at James Madison University

Master of Public Administration Program

• Developed and designed an MPA Program logic model. • Operationalized the new NASPAA Universal competencies for the MPA Program and mapped

the existing curriculum and current assessment strategies. • Developed and implemented new nonprofit concentration competencies based upon curricular

guidelines from the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council. • Developed an assessment plan under the new NASPAA standards for reaccreditation self-study

in 2019. • Raised academic standards for admission into the program, while maintaining a maximum

admitted cohort. • Redesigned the field-based learning experience for graduate students. • Transitioned all field-based learning for the Department to a digital data collection process for

program evaluation. • Prepared the 1st and subsequent annual reports on field-based learning for the Department of

Political Science encompassing three undergraduate programs, one Washington Semester program, and two graduate programs, for four years.

• Planned and coordinated the Public Service Week recognition activities for the School of Public and International Affairs including an annual reception and public service awards for practitioners, for six years.

• Sought and secured funding for a community-based graduate administrative assistant, $25,000.

Veterans Scholar Taskforce

• Appointed by the Provost in my first year and thereafter, to lead a University wide Taskforce designed to both build a community of veterans on campus (faculty, staff, and students) and to assess and improve the continuum of support for the student veteran learning experience.

• Established and advised the JMU chapter of Student Veterans of America. • Designed and facilitated “Green Zone” intercultural competence instruction for faculty and staff,

certifying over 400 faculty and staff in five years. • Created a signature special event for the University on Veterans Day now in its 4th year, which

has been a Top 5 Social Media Engagement event with alumni world-wide, even surpassing the hosting of ESPN GameDay.

• Earned corporate and university financial support of $75,000 and established a Center for Student Veterans on Campus.

The Nonprofit Institute, a Certificate Program for Nonprofit Executives

• Developed curriculum and facilitated learning workshops on mission, vision, and public service values for nonprofit executives.

Faculty Research Council, Research and Scholarship

• Conducted a campus wide needs assessment for the Vice Provost of Research and Scholarship using a mixed methods research design which included focus group interviews of every
