2012– The First Year

In July 2010, a heart burdened for children that were hurting

prompted a search to bring restoration to children in need. In the

beginning, foster children and the fatherless was the focus, but as

the search continued and prayer persisted, it became clear to us

that the motherless child was to be our passion.

Jedidiah is a Christ centered, non-profit, 501c3 organization, made

up of women in their twenties to their seventies. Research shows

homes with custodial single parent fathers are growing at three

times the rate of homes with custodial single mothers. Mothers are

leaving their children to pursue personal interests and other

relationships. Jedidiah desires to bring a mother’s touch to a child’s

life, family, and home.

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and have no

compassion on the child of her womb? Even though

she may forget, I will not forget you!” Isaiah 49:15

Thank you for being

part of Jedidiah.

Back to School

Thanksgiving and Christmas

Thanksgiving was an excellent opportunity to remind our families, regardless of their circumstances,

to be thankful in all things. Jedidiah supporters provided an exceptional holiday feast complete with

colorful autumn placemats, runners, and center pieces. Christmas 2011 was full of excitement and the

fast pace of last minute shopping and wrapping. Days before Christmas we added a family of five. Our

Jedidiah families received a Christmas turkey with all the trimmings and beautifully wrapped gifts of

clothing, coats, and toys according to each family’s need.

Considering that mothers typically handle

back to school shopping, the fathers were

excited to have Jedidiah’s help! Each child

received new colorful school supplies and

had the opportunity to pick out their favorite

clothing and shoes. These special trips to the

mall were fun for volunteers and children.

One volunteer was overwhelmed after a 5-year-old-child

exclaimed, “This is the best day of my life!” The two had

spent a girl’s day shopping for just the right school outfits

and ending their evening at IHOP, a “fancy” restaurant.

Jedidiah also offers tutoring by university students at no

cost to our families.

Our executive director has more than 30 years experience with family budgeting and finances. Cindi spends

individual time with each Jedidiah father by going over budgets, setting financial goals and suggesting financial

learning opportunities in order to better plan for their family.

Planning for a better future is a significant goal for the families of Jedidiah. We set up opportunities for the

children to work within the family through doing chores with the reward of an allowance paid by Jedidiah. We

are teaching children financial responsibility through working, tithing, and saving. With financial success being

a significant part of our mission, we not only want to help the families now but teach them to be successful in the

future.

Our first summer with Jedidiah families was

definitely fun filled! Our goal was to expose the

children to entertaining, cultural, and social

etiquette experiences. We spent a day at the zoo,

the Science Museum of Oklahoma, the Houston

Astro’s minor league Redhawks baseball game,

and took the kids to see Spiderman at the IMAX in

3D. We also enjoyed a formal evening at the

Oklahoma City’s Civic Center watching Bye Bye

Birdie, presented by the Lyric Theater. Bye Bye

Birdie was a special event because we had the kids

dress in their Sunday best, requiring us to take them

individually shopping to ensure that they felt confident in

their attire. Before the theater, the children enjoyed a

nice dinner. The Lyric Theater graciously arranged for

our group to sit in box seats. The look on their faces

when they realized they were receiving special treatment

was priceless! The last comment of the evening was,

“when do we get to go back?”

Celebrating Life

Birthdays are a big deal with Jedidiah. Throughout the year, we celebrate each child’s birthday in a

special, personal way. We match each child with a volunteer to add that special, mother’s touch. For

one 6 year old girl, her birthday celebration was an evening out creating and painting pottery, having a

dinner, and a special birthday cupcake. For one of our older boys, his birthday was celebrated shopping

for a cool personalized hat, eating at his favorite restaurant and spending individual time receiving

quality attention from a “mom”. For our oldest girl, we wanted her birthday to be special and we

welcomed her to bring a friend to her celebration, but she refused saying she only wanted the company

of moms.

In December of 2011, we added a family who was in desperate need after the father received

custody of all four children due to neglect. Prior to meeting Jedidiah, the family’s living

conditions consisted of bare mattresses on the floor and a child’s play table as the family dining

table. We stepped in immediately and prepared the home to meet guidelines for Child Protective

Services. We personalized each child’s room and filled it with the personality and interests of the

child. With generous donations, we have provided Jedidiah families with:

Meals and groceries

Crock pots and cooking utensils

Mattresses and bed frames

Bedroom furniture

Washer and dryer sets

Dining room tables and chairs

Personalized bedding and curtains

Desks and filing cabinets

Decorative bathroom accessories.

New Clothing

School uniforms and school supplies

New athletic shoes, dress shoes, school shoes

Emergency utility bills
