I am currently a landscape architecture stu-dent at the University of Georgia. Born and raised in Georgia, I care passionately about the future of our state. I fi rst became inter-ested in landscape architecture and more particularly, community development, at a young age. As a multi-generational family residing in Hiram, GA, my family has seen the ugliness of poor planning fi rst hand. As the housing market began to slide, develop-ment in Paulding County came to a screech-ing halt, leaving pipe farms as the only sign of existence of the once promising fi scal adventures so many dreamt of. As a neighbor to the thriving Cobb County, it is essential Paulding County begins to plan more ac-cordingly to accomplish the goals of bringing jobs and revenue to the area while constantly improving the aesthetics of the community.

This 72 - par golf course is a test of precision and accu-racy until the very last hole - an island green overlooked by the clubhouse out-door bar and porch. The fi ne dining and tennis options make this “low-countryclub” a hit for thewhole family.

The Copper Creek Pocket Park is a design proposal utilizingcreative, interactive stormwater management techniques. The site is located on Wall Street, a utility street in downtown Athens. The park features fi ve distinct “environments” seperated by the parks focal point, a water feature spanning the majority of the street before fi nally cascading into a series of waterfalls. Con-sistent with the underlying theme of downtown Athens, the park boasts several cisterns in the appearance of copper boil kettles, harvesting rainwater for irrigation purposes.

In the design of the Heroes Pocket Park, I chose to employ principles instilled in the designs of Peter Walker at IBM Sola-no, with the primary element being thecreation of irregu-lar spaces through complimentary angles. The park also features a grade change with a low, spreading tree to estab-lish a strong horizontal axis.

In the summer of 2012, I had the opportunity to study abroad in New Zealand and Australia for 5 weeks. Per-haps the most interestingpart was Christchurch, New Zealand, a coastal town that had recently been devestat-ed by a horrifi c earthquake. The outlook on this disaster was suprisingly optimistic. The Kiwis were already looking forward to all of the improvements planned.

With the help of city planners and urban designers, the people of Christchurch will soon enjoy a new city with all the com-forts of traditional Christchurch and all thththtttttttthtttthttt e progressions of a new Christchurch.
