Jean Nadeau is an

author, international

professional

speaker and

a radio host

in Quebec,

Canada. He is

uncompromising

on this: he is not

an inspirational

nor a motivational

speaker!  He actually

likes to say that he is

more of an intense speaker.

He is frank, brutal, tough and sometimes

even obnoxious, yet very funny!

However, once you get to know him,

you understand that he has a big heart

and an even bigger gut for how you can

and should re-think your personal and

professional growth. He tells it like it is

and gets in your face to make you face

reality. Brace yourself and meet Jean

Nadeau.

Jean Nadeau explains his

keynote presentation: “I’ve got no time to lose. Nor do you. So brace yourself, things

could turn ugly.  A 60 minute

eye-to-eye talk about what it takes

to bring out the best in youth, in yourself and in your

community. I am the Hulk of personal development. A good guy at first sight, but when it comes to personal development – you have to be prepared for this – I kick butt!  In fact, I wake up every morning to make people uncomfortable with the aspects of their life they know they need to change.  Uncomfortable to the point that they may finally decide to take action and move from where they are to where they want to be in life. My challenge is to have people re-think personal development in a more lucid and practical way.”

Greetings Optimists, Families & Friends –

Welcome to the 99th Annual Convention of Optimist International! And welcome to the beautiful city of Albuquerque set in the great American Southwest. On behalf of the   85,000 members of Optimist International – have fun, explore, meet new Optimists, share with each other, and take home great ideas to help your club and your community! Together We Can!

We are in the YEAR OF THE HONOR Club! The Honor Club criteria were set years ago, and have been recently re-established. The Honor Club criteria are really a road map to club success. If followed: they keep your club active, involved with the youth and the community you serve, connected with your District, in touch with our great Foundations – the OIF and the CCOF, help you add new members every year, and of course having fun while we serve! Honor Club is really a basic job description for all of us to follow – the minimum level of service every club should strive for!

There will be ample opportunity to learn about all the details and aspects of Honor Club via a number of great workshops! You will have the opportunity to explore, learn and share with your fellow Optimists. Take in all that you can – the workshops will help you grow in optimism and be sure to share your experience and new found knowledge with those back in your Districts!

There are many other activities as well – Foundation meetings, the House of Optimism, District dinners, and super local foods, tours and entertainment options. Have fun – take it all in – and remember – Together We Can!

Yours in Optimism,

Jim KondrasukOptimist International President, 2016-2017

Bienvenido!

Optimist Friends,

The Albuquerque convention is a time to rediscover and move forward towards our Optimist goals – build more relationships, network with other Optimists and socialize.

Join me and other Optimists from the Southwest Region to come together and socialize, learn and have some fun while pursuing our Optimist mission to bring out the BEST in youth, in our communities and in ourselves. ”Together We Can”!

Together We Can:

Make a Difference

Move toward our future endeavors

The Southwest Region welcomes you all with open arms and looks forward to seeing you all in Albuquerque to enjoy all that it has to offer amongst the background of our enchanted Sandia Mountains.

Thank you again for everything that you do for the youth and your communities. I am very proud to be an Optimist and am very eager that together, Optimists from everywhere discover the “Land of Enchantment” in Albuquerque, which is known for the International Balloon Fiesta and one of the world’s longest trams.

In our own special way, “Together We Can” make a difference in our youth, in our communities and in ourselves.

Hello Optimist Friends! Welcome to the 99th Optimist International Convention in the beautiful City of Albuquerque, NM, the hot air ballooning capital of the world!

The Host Area District Optimists have been working hard putting together the entertainment and many unique details to make this an exciting convention to file away into your memories when you go home. Take a tour of the city and check out all of the historical sites. Check out the Historic Old Town, visit the numerous museums, notice the many “natural attractions” and take a Sandia Mountain tour or ride the Sandia Peak Tramway. If you are not staying at Hotel Andaluz, you might want to at least check it out for its beauty and special classy design.

Get to know the ‘special question’ asked at almost every meal in Albuquerque.

Opening Session will be fun and be sure to check out the Business Sessions. Workshops are available for training to learn more about how you can grow your Club’s Membership to serve more Youth in your communities, build Clubs, and enhance your personal growth.

Be sure to check out the ‘larger than ever’ House of Optimism often this year for many special events taking place every day. Make a bid or two on the fun items in the Silent Auction that will change daily so you do need to check out the new items so you do not miss anything. Winners will be notified of their winning item(s) to pick up at the end of each day. Participate in the various Tip Talks and learn new ways to share your Optimism!

First Timers please attend the Orientation to find out how to make the most out of your attendance at this Special Convention so you do not miss out on anything! This may be the very first of many Optimist Conventions that you will want to attend to see new sites, keep in touch with new friends, and deepen your appreciation of being an Optimist. Have fun and be sure to just ask if you have any questions.

Have fun and blessing you with THANKS for attending the Albuquerque Convention! See you next year in Ottawa – Capital of Canada!

Dear Participants, Attending Optimist International Conventions has been one of my favorite parts of being an Optimist. The friendships I have made and the classes I have attended have made me a better optimist.

I hope each of you will take advantage of the opportunities a convention offers you.

I think back to my first Optimist Convention which just happened to be here in Albuquerque in 1985. Friendships were made that have lasted over many conventions. I think about the classes I have taken at those many conventions and I know that I have been able to make Optimism stronger in my District because of them.

This is an opportunity for you to grow and for you to take back with you the tools to help make Optimism stronger. Just maybe you will be inspired and you will return home to change the lives of the youth of your community.

Take this opportunity to visit our City and our State. It is called the Land of Enchantment for very good reasons.

Meet the great people of the New Mexico/West Texas District and be inspired by the hard work they have done to make this a special Convention. I was truly blessed with the team I have. Please say thank you to them for me.

Take time to talk to the wonderful people from Optimist International that work so hard for us every day. They will be here to help you grow as an Optimist. They will be here to listen to your thoughts and ideas. A Convention is your opportunity to express yourself. I have found that the learning is two way and we all take back knowledge that helps Optimism grow.

I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new so stop by and say hello.

Dear Optimist International Convention,

As the Mayor of Albuquerque, it is with great pleasure to welcome you to our city for the Annual 99th Optimist International Convention being held July 6th through July 8th, 2017, at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Albuquerque welcomes organizations like Optimist International who devote themselves to inspiring youth to volunteer and take action in communities across the United States and Canada. Volunteering is critical to the health and compassion of a community. Albuquerque prides itself on its many volunteers, who come from all walks of life, making it an ideal backdrop for an event such as this.

If you are visiting us, I hope you get the chance to explore our great city. Take in some of the sights and sounds that you may encounter in a city as vibrant as ours. For a taste of our culture and history, the Indian and Hispanic Centers are great places to spend time. Old Town Albuquerque is a must-see, where you get to experience our New Mexican southwest heritage. Enjoy a 2.7 mile trip on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tram, one of the longest trams in the world; it transports you to the top of our beautiful Sandia Mountains, making for breathtaking views. Please don’t forget to visit our Rio Grande River filled with wildlife and adventure.

I wish you a successful and joyous convention.

Best regards,

Richard J. BerryMayor, City of Albuquerque
