OBJECTIVE

• ANALYZE LIGHTING USAGE IN JCFA• IMPROVE LIGHTING EFFECIENY• PROVIDE RETROFITMENT PLAN• CREATE DATA FOR R.O.I. OF NEW LIGHTS• PROVIDE DEBULBING SCENARIO• IMPROVE OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS OF AUDIT

Page 4: JCFA AUDIT revised

JCFA CURRENTLY

• Due to inconsistent schedules of the Fine Arts programs lighting cost was based on a standardized usage rate

• 10 hour day, 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year:

TOTAL WATTAGE

52,670

/1000 X 10KWH

HoursX .08

CostPer KWH

= $42.13 DAILY = $10,112.64 ANNUAL

ASSUMPTIONS

• ASSUMPTION 1: DEBULB

• ASSUMPTION 2: RETROFIT

• MASTER PLAN• ADDITIONAL TIPS

Page 6: JCFA AUDIT revised

Debulbing

• Debulbing is the process of taking out 1 bulb from a ballast to save money on energy costs

• Most ballasts are designed to run on 1 less bulb than full capacity, saving energy while producing less light

• (N-1) = any ballast at full capacity (N) with one bulb subtracted (-1)

Page 7: JCFA AUDIT revised

DEBULBING

• DEBULBING IN JCFA NOT LOGICAL

- Building construction based on natural light from windows

- No consistency in Lighting Power Density throughout the day: impossible to measure accurately

Page 8: JCFA AUDIT revised

DEBULBING CONT.

- Aesthetically unappealing in most visited FC building by public

- Only possible debulb is classrooms which already have dimmer capabilities

- F32/t8 WITH 3 BULBS- F17/t8 WITH 3 BULBS

Page 9: JCFA AUDIT revised

RETROFITMENT

- Retrofitting is the best plan for JCFA for long-term investment and energy savings

INCANDESCENT SPOTLIGHTS

• ATRIUM• LEADERSHIP CENTER• BLACK BOX THEATRE• ART STUDIOS• 100-150W IC BULB

Page 11: JCFA AUDIT revised

REPLACEMENT

• General Electronics 26w LED• Already in use in Room 102 and 103• Equivalent Wattage 100W• $ 56.25 each• Energy Savings: 100-26= 74w• Daily: (74/1000)x10x.08= ~$.06• R.O.I. = 56.25/.06 = 937 days or ~ 2.5 years = price per new bulb/daily $ saved from new bulb• + Additional savings from removing old ballasts

Page 12: JCFA AUDIT revised

Can Lights

• ATRIUM• HALLWAYS• THEATRE• BATHROOMS• 26w 2-pin bulbs, 2

PER can= 52w

Page 13: JCFA AUDIT revised

REPLACEMENT• CREE LIGHTING LR6 RECCESSED DOWNLIGHT• WATTAGE: 12W• 10 year warranty• Equivalent Wattage: 60W• $ 81.25 each• Energy Savings: 26-12= 14w• Daily: (14/1000)x10x.08= ~$.02• R.O.I. = 81.25/.02 = 4062 days or ~ 10.5 years = price per new bulb / daily $ saved from new bulb• Additional energy savings from removing can light ballasts

Studio/Stage Lights

• Upstairs large studio• 575W Metal Halide!• 9 total in Art studio

Page 15: JCFA AUDIT revised

REPLACEMENT

• ETC D-SERIES• 104-149 W (Adjustable)• Already in use in Theatre • $~1,000-$1,400 each• Energy Savings: 575-104= 471W• Daily: (471/1000)x10x.08=~.37• R.O.I.= 1,200/.37 = 3243 days or 8.8 years= price per new ETC/ Daily $ saved from new light

Page 16: JCFA AUDIT revised

Art Display

• (2) 60W Incandescent

• Lights Art hung on wall

Page 17: JCFA AUDIT revised

REPLACEMENT

• MR-16 3w LED• Used in downstairs hall intersection• Equivalent Wattage: 35W• $10-20 depending on brand• Energy savings: 60-3= 57W• Daily= (57/1000)x10x.08 = ~$.05• R.O.I. = 20/.05 = 400 days or 1.1 years= Price per new bulb/ Daily $ saved from new bulb

Page 18: JCFA AUDIT revised

LONG TERM PLAN• Replace ALL incandescent lights immediately, 2.5 year turn around. Current IC

replacement cost $5-20- 132 IC lights, 26w LED $56.25 each x 132 = cost $1,800 - Debulb classrooms depending on room usage, within regulations, to save

energy ($)• Use the money saved after 2.5 years to fund LED can lights, Current can lights

replacement cost $3-12- 265 Can lights, LR6 $81.25 each x 265= $21,531• Price will drop on studio lights in 3 years allowing for cost efficient upgrade • HYPOTHETICAL savings of all replacements combined: -ANNUAL: $4,552!!!! • The price of replacing current bulbs will shorten the return on investment

(R.O.I.) when taking into consider the amount of bulbs used per year

Page 19: JCFA AUDIT revised

ADDITIONAL TIPS

• Spread energy awareness!

• Encourage teachers to use dimmer lights and debulb offices if possible!

• Turn off lights when not is NOT IN USE!
