Applications of Analytical Geometry in the Field of Engineering

Mathematical applications of analytical geometry lie mainly in relating algebra and geometry. Analytical geometry uses algebra to study geometric properties; operates on symbols defined in a coordinate system. The Cartesian plane, the basis of analytical geometry, allows algebraic equations to be graphically represented.This mathematics discipline describes the position of points on a plane using an ordered pair of numbers. Engineers and Architects use coordinate geometry to represent points, lines, shapes and surfaces as algebraic expressions with letters and numbers. This allows them to perform the calculations required to design a complex structure, such as a bridge or building. Such calculations include stress, moment of inertia, and tensile strength. For example, a structural engineer may measure the dimensions of a beam in order to calculate the maximum load, or stress, the beam can support. This is essential information when planning the infrastructure of a building. It is well known that drawing is the language of mechanical engineering, for complete knowledge in drawing analytical geometry is very useful. This is also useful in measuring the forces and stresses in the machine parts. This analytical geometry is wide useful in design topics like "kinematics of machinery", dynamics of machinery and many more.Analytical geometry is used widely in engineering. It set the foundation for algebraic, differential, discrete, and computational geometry. It is the study of geometry using a coordinate system.
