Jazz Audition 2018 FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY Piano, Acoustic Bass and Electric Guitar 1. Prepare the appropriate part to “Flight of the Foo Bird” as recorded by Count Basie. See attached. 2. Prepare all major scales and arpeggios. ● You will be asked to perform one or more of the prepared scales and arpeggios, from memory, at a minimum tempo of MM quarter note = 120. ● Perform a minimum of 2 octaves where possible. Students who wish to play a 3rd octave may do so. Scales must be performed in complete octaves. 3. Etude or solo jazz piece of candidate’s choice (about 1 minute). Jazz piano accompaniment can be provided if the student brings a concert chord sheet. 4. Optional - improvisation on “Jive at Six” in concert C. See attached lead sheet. Note: this lead sheet is in concert C. The original recording by Ben Webster is in the key of D. (See YouTube for Jive at 6 Ben Webster)
