Experience
PhD Research
Structural and optoelectronic studies of lead chalcogenide thin films and nanocrystals (Prof. Paul
O’Brien, The University of Manchester, UK). I have been involved in a number of different projects
including High efficiency Hybrid Solar cells for Microgeneration, This project was a consortium of
chemists, physicists, materials scientists and electrical engineers at Manchester University and Imperial
College London, EP/E036287/1 (www.chemistry.manchester.ac.uk/groups/pob/hhscm),
(http://hybridsolar.co.uk/default.aspx). I have worked as lab demonstrator to undergraduate students in
school of chemistry, the University of Manchester. The focus of my PhD research was to synthesize
quantum dots (QDs) of lead chalcogenide of different sizes as sensitizer for solar cell device. I have
managed to devople a new eco-friendly route using olive oil as solvent and surfactant to prepare quantum
dots (QDs). I also successfully synthesized new N, N-dialkyl selenourea complexes for deposition of metal
selenides thin films and nanocrystals. I have attended a number of conferences where i presented my work
as talk and poster. Moreover, i have spent two weeks as visiting researcher in the laboratory of Upul
Wijayantha, department of chemistry Loughborough University, UK.
I have hands on experience with sophisticated techniques including solar simulator (Solar Light
16S—300 solar simulator), cyclic volatmetry (microAutoLab, type III), Perkin Elmer FT-IR Spectroscopy,
Varian Cary 300 Double Beam UV/Vis Spectrophotometer, Bruker PXRD, Philips XL-30 FEGSEM,
Philips CM200 TEM, Tecnai HRTEM, EF-TEM, EELs, Raman spectroscopy and other common
techniques used for nanomaterials characterization. I have hands on training in fabrication, testing and
characterization of solar cell device (ETA and dye sensitized solar cell). My research work in PhD
produced several peer review articles and short communication in high impact international scientific
journals and so for my cumulative impact factor is > 100.
In short, my areas of expertise include fabrication, testing and characterization of photovoltiac
device as well as extensive use of microscopy technique (HRTEM, EFTEM,SEM,AFM) for analysis of
nanostructured materials.
M.Phil. Research
I carried out research project on synthesis of liquid crystals under the supervision of prof. Dr.
Naeema Khan, department of chemistry Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad Pakistan. I have synthesized
52 diazo compounds using inert conditions. The compounds were characterized by spectroscopic
techniques and showed mesomorphic behavior.
M.Sc. Research
My MSc research project was on the estimation of caffeine contents in common beverages in
Pakistan. I used solvent extraction and chromatographic techniques to analyze various beverages (tea of
different brands and coffee).
