When we heard about your Potato Bread Challenge we were really excited because making potato bread is something we love to do in McKinney PS. We already hold a Potato Bread day annually and use the potatoes we have grown in our garden and so we were able to change our own recipe to try something a little bit different. We organised ourselves into four groups. Meet some of our team! Jason (Market Research) "We looked at ideas shared from our class on ‘Popplet’ and decided on the most popular flavours. Potato Bread day annually and use the potatoes we have grown in our garden and so we

were able to change our own recipe to try something a little bit different.

We organised ourselves into four groups. Meet some of our team!

Jason (Market Research) "We looked at ideas shared from our class on ‘Popplet’ and decided on the most popular flavours. We choose our top three, apple and cinnamon, Tayto crisps and potato/sweet potato,

bacon and chive.”

We wanted to be able to use some ingredients we could grow in our school garden. We made 2 types, potato, bacon

and chive and sweet potato, bacon and chive and used results from our questionnaire to decide on the most popular,

sweet potato was the favourite!

Camron (Finance) “I used the Sainsburies website to find

out how much ingredients would cost. I made a shopping

list and recorded costs on a spreadsheet.”

Caitlyn (Production) “We looked at the recipe from our

school recipe book and discussed how it could be altered. We asked a

cook about adding sweet potato to the mix. She suggested it might

make the mixture wetter. We tried different amounts and found

substituting 1/3 potato for sweet potato worked perfectly. We tripled the

recipe so we would have enough bread for everyone!”

Benjamin (Market Research) “I created a questionnaire on Survey Monkey

and we asked pupils, teachers and parents to taste our potato bread and

fill out the ipad questionnaire.”

Amelia (Advertising and Design team) “We

designed a logo and created posters to advertise..

We plan to make a promotion video to share online

to help sell our bread.”

Caleb (Finance) We talked to the market research team to decide on a

price to sell our product so we it would be affordable but still make a profit!

We borrowed £10 from our School’s Eco account to get our business

started.”

Peter (Production) “I loved making the potato bread!“

We have learnt that sweet potato can be hard to work

with as it cooks more quickly than potato so we need to

do some more research into how best to cook it to get

the texture we want. We have considered introducing

special offers like the ones we saw in our numeracy

lesson. We could also use shaped cutters (a shamrock

for St. Patrick’s Day to keep it really Irish!) When

making our next batch we will need to have more

people in our production team as this area requires the

most man-power.

It has been hard work trying to start a business but we have loved it. We would LOVE to visit the Yellow Door Deli to

tell you about the fun we’ve had and get some advice about how to make our business successful in the future.

THANKYOU!
