KEYTERMS DEFINED 11. TECHNOLOGY- Simply defined, is the use of tools, materials, and

processes that people use to meet human needs and wants. (Ex. IPOD, Cell Phones)

2. INVENTION- New Technology. (Ex. IPOD, Digital TV)

3. INNOVATION- Improved Technology. (Ex. Laptops, Cell Phones)

4. CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM- A system that can respond to changes and adjust its inputs and outputs. (Ex. Bicycle steering, Car speed)

5. OPEN LOOP SYSTEM- A system that has no way of monitoring or adjusting itself. (Ex. Train is either off or on, Light switch)

6. COMPARATOR- compares the actual output of a system with the desired output or result. (Ex. thermostat, mercury)

7. PROCESS-The action part of a system. (Ex. Heater, Electricity )

8. CONTROLLER- A device that turns a process on or off, or that changes it in some way. (Ex, Gas pedal, remote )

9. FEEDBACK- Information about a system’s output that is used to adjust the system. (Ex. One, Two)

10. Timer- a device for indicating or measuring elapsed time. (Ex. Stopwatch, )
