Hello Everyone,

Welcome and Thank you for supporting the Silicon Valley JACL

chapter and the fifth basketball tournament. We are so happy to

provide this opportunity for youth to learn a sport, build their

skills, develop good sportsmanship and grow as leaders. These

programs bring together many people from different areas,

forming and maintaining lasting friendships over the years and

decades.

The Silicon Valley JACL chapter focuses on intergenerational

events, leadership development, uniquely exploring the JA culture

and fostering diverse networks. We feel this basketball tournament

encompasses all these aspects. This year, the tournament proceeds

will be used to develop a scholarship program for the chapter.

Some of goals of this tournament are to get people talking about

Silicon Valley JACL and also give local families another chance to

see their friends and family play basketball. I feel that we meet

both goals. I ‘m so happy to see the families and player year after

year. It gives me a thrill to see so many young people playing in

the tournament, and I love to see our tournament T‐shirts being

worn in the community.

On behalf of the board and the Silicon Valley JACL, we wish to

extend our deepest appreciation to our basketball committee and

chairs, and Alan Takeda, the many volunteers, donors, sponsors,

athletes and fans! Please enjoy the tournament.

2015 Silicon Valley JACL Basketball Tournament

Rules and Regulations All games will be played under the Boys Basketball Rules Book of National Federation of

State High Schools Association with exceptions stated below. Three (3) point field goals

will be awarded only in gyms marked with 3 point lines. Teams must be ready to play 10

minutes after the scheduled game times. Awards limited to 10 players.

SPORTSMANSHIP: This will be followed: Inform your players

Any threat of violence shall result in the expulsion of the person(s) making the threat. Any

player caught fighting will be subject to an automatic suspension. Any player or coach

displaying unsportsmanlike behavior can be subject to technical fouls without warning and

possible expulsion.

CLOCK:

All divisions will play

1. Four 8‐minute quarters. (No shot clock 6,7 & 8th) (Optional for High School grades,

4. Five minute rest period between halves.

5. Blowout rule: 4th qtr lead of 20 points will start running time, if both teams agree.

TIME OUTS:

Three one‐minute and Two 30‐second time outs per game. Overtime, One one‐minute time

out plus any carryover from regulation time.

OVERTIME:

Overtime periods will be 2 minutes. No sudden death.

TIEBREAKERS TO BREAK SAME RECORDS: (4, 5, 6 & 7 team divisions )

1. Head to Head

2. Point differential in the games. Max points earned or losses will be 10 points per game.

3. Least points allowed in the games played.

4. Most points scored in the games played

HOME TEAMS:

Teams listed first on the schedule will be the home team. Home team will wear white

jerseys and have choice of basket.

WAIVERS:

1. All players must have signed waivers submitted to the Site Coordinators at least 30

minutes prior to the team’s first game played in the Tournament.

2. Liability waivers are the responsibility of each team. All medical expenses of any

participant during this tournament will be th responsibility of the team they represent.

3. Each team is responsible for their own coverage.

PROTESTS:

1. Protest of referee judgment calls will not be allowed.

2. All protests will be addressed by the SV JACL Tournament Committee.

2015 Silicon Valley JACL Basketball Tournament

Adult Division Rules and Regulations All games will be played under the College Basketball Rules Book of NCAA with

exceptions stated below. Three (3) point field goals will be awarded only in gyms marked

with 3 point lines. Teams must be ready to play 10 minutes after the scheduled game times.

Awards limited to 10 players.

SPORTSMANSHIP: This will be followed: Inform your players

Any threat of violence shall result in the expulsion of the person(s) making the threat. Any

player caught fighting will be subject to an automatic suspension. Any player or coach

displaying unsportsmanlike behavior can be subject to technical fouls without warning and

possible expulsion.

CLOCK:

All divisons will play 1. Two 20‐minute halves.

2. Play will be semi‐stop time (All Free Throws and final 2

minutes of each half).

3. 30 second shot clock for men’s division. (if available in gym)

4. 30 second shot clock for women’s upper. (if available)

5. No shot clock for women’s lower.

6. Five minute rest period between halves.

TIME OUTS:

Three one‐minute and Two 30‐second time outs per game. Overtime, One one‐minute

time out plus any carryover from regulation time.

OVERTIME:

Overtime periods will be 2 minutes. No sudden death.

TIEBREAKERS TO BREAK SAME RECORDS: (4, 5, & 6 team divisions )

1. Head to Head

2. Point differential in the games. Max points wins or losses will be 10 points per game.

3. Least points allowed in the games played.

4. Most points scored in the games played.

HOME TEAMS:

Teams listed first on the schedule will be the home team. Home team will wear white

jerseys and have choice of basket.

WAIVERS:

1. All players must have signed waivers submitted to the Site Coordinators at least 30

minutes prior to the team’s first game played in the Tournament.

2. Liability waivers are the responsibility of each team. All medical expenses of any

participant during this tournament will be th responsibility of the team they represent.

3. Each team is responsible for their own coverage.

PROTESTS:

1. Protest of referee judgment calls will not be allowed.

2. All protests will be addressed by the SV JACL Tournament Committee.
