The Capital

Japan’s capital is Tokyo. 12,000,000 people live in Japan’s capital Tokyo. It’s a big city so most people live in apartments like in Portland, OR. The apartments aren’t that big but they are big enough for 4-5 people to live in it. Computer games are popular games to play at home. They play the games we do but in Japanese.

Japan is located in East Asia. Asia is a big continent with 8 countries in it, including Japan. Japan is not attached to Asia , it is in the ocean. Japan is long and skinny. It is part of east Asia were there is also China, North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia, and Taiwan.

Geography

In Japan there are 100 famous mountains and 62 rivers. The most famous mountain in Japan is Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji is a volcano that last erupted in 1707. A lot of buildings got damaged and destroyed. Scientists think it will erupt again in 2015.

Geography continued The Kakita river is the most famous river in all of Japan. It is famous for being a clear flowing river. It has been named one of the clear flowing rivers along with the Negara river and the Shimanto river. The Kakita river is 1 mile long. It is the smallest river in Japan, but it is still the most famous. Doesn’t matter the size.

Climate

In Japan the weather in the winter is cold with little snowfall. In the summer it is warm and humid. It’s humid because the southeast seasonal winds.

Culture In Japan they eat everything with chopsticks. They eat with chopsticks because they do less damage than forks, spoons and knifes on their bowls, plates and pans.The Japanese have their own special language. Culture continued

In Japan they have dollars and coins like we do but they are totally different. Fist of all the dollars are worth different amounts. Some coins have a hole in the middle.In Japan the celebrate lots of holidays. The most important holiday in Japan is New Years Day. Some businesses don’t open until January 4th. They also celebrate a holiday called Kenkoku Kinenbi ( national foundation day ).They celebrate it on February 11th. They celebrate the day the first emperor was crowned in 660 BC.

Economy In Japan there are lots of farming land. 20% of Japan is farmland. Although there are many farms, most farmers farm part time. They work at the farm during farming summer and work somewhere else during the winter. It’s kind of like “ The Circuit “, they work and then go somewhere else to work.
