    ENGG men, CBA ladies savecrown as athletics champs

    Defending championCollege of Engineer-ing led the gold medaltally in athletics mensdivision as it garnered12 golds while defend-ing champion mightyyellow CBA raised itsbanner as it rankedfirst in the gold medalstanding in womensdivision with a total ofnine golds in the two-day running, throwingand jumping events atthe USLS Track and

    Field held Jan. 22-23.

    Running EventsBoth CBA sprinters

    starred in the 100mdash with Jade Aplascaclocked 13.99s inwomens while Flori-ano Pasilan at 11.93sin mens

    In the 200m dash,Ray Stephen Malundoof ENGG powered off

    the final bend in themens division to clocka winning 25.09s fol-lowed by CBAs Third

    Salazar (26.07s) andBSNs Melvin Ramos(26.37s).

    Jade Aplasca of CBAwon the womens racewith a record time of31.17s followed byCAS Kaye Aplasca(32.67s) and CBAsApril Rose Hingpit(34.30s).

    Stephen Malundo(58.77s) of ENGGruled in the mens raceof the 400m run fol-lowed by Carlo Som-bria of CBA (1:00.26)and Vlad Soriano(1:01.77) of ENGG.

    CAS HeatherPerucho grabbedthe first place in thewomens race andclocked 1:15.60 fol-lowed by lady runnersof BSNs Jo HannahChua (1:20.70) and

    CBAs Carmela Lim(1:27.16).

    Capturing the goldin 800m run men and

    womens categorieswere Engineering IanArceo (2:23.59) andArtian Heather Peru-cho (3:01.89).

    Ian Arceo of ENGG(5:15.75) had a firstplace finish in themens 1500m run,while the womens racewas topped by HeatherPerucho (6:44.17) ofCAS.

    CBA (3:06.63)edged out CAS(3:09.51) in mensclassical relay, whilethe women orangewarriors took theirrevenge in mens divi-sion (2:22.85) defeat-ing CBA (2:29.95).

    Also fueling the run-away win was CBAs Jade Aplasca, whofinished first placein the 3000m run

    (15:59.83), followedby CBAs April Hing-pit (16:09.47) andBSNs Chessa Gan

    (16:17.77). The orange flag

    was raised high in the5000m run as ENGGlong distance runnersIan Arceo (20:54.17),Marson dela Torre(21:52.93) and JosephRivera (23:06.42) suc-cessful monopolizedthe top three medals.

    In another title chasethat went down thewire, the Orange War-riors men sparked the4x100m relay team tovictory for 49.87swhilethe Mighty Yellowswomen team grabbedthe crown with a timeof 59.35s.

    CBA shared the spot-light both in men andwomen 4x200m relaycapturing anothergold for the college.

    In the mens

    4x400m relay, ENGGeasily took first place(4:17.59) finishingalmost 40 seconds

    ahead of the secondplace team from CBA.

    CBA topped thewomens race with5:23.42 as BSN triesto blaze off with a5:38.93 finish atsecond place.

    Throwing EventsAnother first for

    Engineering men wasGlenn Louie Que whobrought home thediscus throw (26.54m)seconded by CASMarlon Luces (20m).

    In the womens divi-sion, EDUCs Mar-celina Yandall got thetop spot (23.07m) andfollowed by both CBAcontenders CharmaineChong (21.36m)and Roselyn Malan(18.20m).

    Jumping EventsIn the long jump,

    BSNs Stephanie Gen-solin (3.77m) leapt her

    way and snatched thetop spot in womensdivision while CarloArsenio of ENGG ruledthe mens (5.15m).

    Student nurse Steph-anie Gensolin leapther way to the wom-ens triple jump gold(8.00), while on menscategory was Jan Bal-bontin (11.74).

    CBA and ENGGdrew gold medals inshot put with theirplayers Roselyn Malan(7.47m) and DerekKho (10.18m).

    Delivering the vic-tories in high jumpwere Mighty yellowsNeil Galicia for men(1.70m) and RedPhoenix StephanieGensolin for women(1.25m).

    ENGG becomes new mens chess title holderCBA woodpushers retain womens chess title

    College of Engineeringturned out as the newkings of mens chesscompetitions while Col-lege of Business andAccountancy preventedits title from beingsnatched in womenschess contests in the

    two-day board gameevent at the CollegeLibrary on Jan. 22-23.

    In mens chess,ENGG garnered 13.5total board points whileCBA failed to regain itstitle as the defendingchamp, moving back-ward to second placewith 12.5 followed by

    BSN (7.5), CAS (3.5)and EDUC (3) for thirdto fifth place, respec-tively.

    In womens contests,CBA pushed its luck bywinning a total of 14points followed by BSN(10), CAS (7), ENGG(7) and EDUC (2) forthird to fifth place,

    respectively.Friday Lanley Solinap

    of the College of Busi-ness and Accountancyand Marianne AraneChua of the College ofNursing were named asthe most outstandingplayers for mens andwomens categories,respectively.

    The College of Busi-ness and Accountancyis going on pretty strongwiping out every teamblocking their way butthe opposite goes forthe College of Engineer-ing as they got wipedout by both the Collegeof Nursing and the Col-lege of Arts and Sciencerespectively in Day 3 ofthe womens footballtournament.

    The yellow brightCBA was striving onthe first half of its gameagainst the Artians butregained hold on thegame as they clobberedCAS, 1-0, for them toslate another victory.

    CAS team captainShanleigh Jalea falteredand got injured in themiddle of the second

    half of the match that

    pulled her out of therest of the game.

    CBA didnt stop fromtheir previous gameagainst the CAS andstill showed superiorityagainst EDUC, 2-1, toadd another step to theirstairs to championship.

    We are confidentthat were going to makeit to the top. Most ofthe players in our teamare graduating and Impretty sure that theyll

    be giving their best sincethis is their last to playfor the team, CBAteam captain PatriciaPaula Alonso said.

    The ENGG teamcould not seem tostand up to its OrangeWarrior title as it gotcrushed by Nursingon its first game fortoday, 2-0.

    BSNs been driving the

    game from the very startand a little confusionfrom the orange teamduring the first half gaveway to BSNs first goal.

    The Red Phoenix, notsatisfied with its cur-rent score, gave its finaleffort during the lastminute of the game toclick the score board toa 2-0 finish.

    ENGG, not fullyrecovered from the pre-vious game, has received

    another zero duringtheir game against CASwhich pulled a myste-rious one point finishtoday.

    Despite the little injuryfrom the previous game,CAS team captain Jaleamade a goal from a pen-alty kick to put them inthe safe zone and eventu-ally gave way to their win.

    CBA working for its lost yesterday,ENGG, BSN tied in mens football

    Just as promised yes-terday, the College ofBusiness and Accoun-tancy is recoveringfrom its loss yesterdayagainst the Collegeof Nursing and hasworked far enoughto snitch two victorytoday.

    It was a walk in thepark for the yellowbright CBA as theycrushed the all-so-tough College of Artsand Science, 13-1,to shine out theirstrength early thismorning.

    It was an easy vic-tory for the CBA,which was expectedfrom their 6-0 lead

    in the first half of thegame.

    The game againstthe EDUC was finishedin a nick of time bythe CBA as they wongame 8 by default.

    The EDUC teamnever showed up thisnoon sans any reasonat all which led totheir technical defeat.

    Meanwhile, theNursing team, gainingground from theirwin against CBA yes-terday was arrangedto meet against theOrange Warriors. Thematch-up led to adraw leaving no pointsfor both team.

    It was a hard start forboth teams since noneof them were show-

    ing any formof weaknessand were bothdetermined tofight till theend making itimpossible forany of team tostrike any goalleading to a0-0 end.
