you feel cursed.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 starts with these words,

"For everything there is a season, and a time

for every matter under heaven..." These

verses present change as orderly and

expected. Change IS going to happen. On

many occasions we cope with the changes

that just come our way. Other times we

consciously and intentionally decide to make

changes for ourselves, as many of us do at the

beginning of the year. Whether you actually

make a new year's resolution or not, the

turning of a new calendar year is a mark in

time where change is almost universally

celebrated, welcomed and somewhat

expected.

As we turn our calendars to 2018, there

are changes that follow us from 2017 into the

new year, ones that we are planning, and

some that we have no idea are coming.

Individually, within our families, at our places

of work, and in our congregation (or any of

the facets of our lives) the winds of change

will definitely blow. Whether the circum-

stances are pleasing or less than desirable,

God is with us – even guiding and directing

us. Jesus promised to be with us always, and

by the power of Holy Spirit this promise is

fulfilled.

As a congregation, we have experienced

our share of change over the last few months

of 2017. The addition of a newly ordained

pastor (yours truly) AND our head pastor

accepting a change in call to a new

congregation. Now, our interim search

committee will begin working this month to

find an interim pastor for Central. Please be

in prayer for the interim search committee

and the potential candidates, also be in prayer

for the elders on session as they lead us

through our church's time of change.

God is with us and faith will see us

through!

Cub Scouts Visit McAdenville On Saturday, December 16th, the Cub Scouts of Pack 45

visited McAdenville, NC. We had a great time walking

through the lights of the Christmas Season. At one lit

nativity scene display, the Cub Scouts raced down on their

own, away from the adults. They held hands, bowed their

heads in front of the nativity scene for a few moments and

then returned to the adults. I, and other adults, have never

seen this done so spontaneously by the youth before. Nice!

What’s Happening

In Sunday School

Our Sunday school classes gather at 9:15am on Sunday mornings here at Central.

All classes welcome new members.

The Mighty Acts Class:

wrapped and delivered gifts for five families and several additional children to insure they had a memorable Christmas and knew there were people who cared for them.

Every Sunday during December, members of the class have been setting up beds, tables and chairs etc. in preparation for Room In The Inn guests on Monday nights.

The Class has been studying “Who Needs Christ-mas” during December. We found out that “The World Did”, “God Did” and “We Do”.…….come and join us on Sunday morning.

Starting on the first Sunday in January, the Emma B. Young Class will be studying the books of James and 1 & 2nd Peter, from the “Genesis to Revelation” Books. All are welcome to join us in Bible Study.

Church Library: The Adult Christian Education team will begin cleaning up and organizing the Library into a Church Resource Center. Any family

who has donated an item to the Library in the past and wishes to keep it should make arrangements to retrieve it by the end of the day, January 14, 2018. After that date, all items identified for removal will be offered to the full congregation at a designated site within the church. Any remaining items will be sold at the Spring Attic Sale. In addition, Sunday School classes are encouraged to donate to the Resource Center any previ-ously used material or curriculum so that other classes can share and/or reuse. Following the January 14 deadline, the ACE team will begin the process of reorganization. If you have any questions, please contact Herman Canipe.

How do you know the

will of God? Join us for an in-depth look at God’s will for us in

a 5-week study being offered each Wednesday,

January 10—February 7, 2018 from 10:30am—12:00

(noon) in Room 300. We will examine two

questions: What does scripture tell us about the

will of God? How do I know what God wants me

to do? Join us in this study as we explore discern-

ing God’s will for each of us and our congregation

as it goes through this time of transition. We will

also look to how God works in people’s lives when

difficulties and impossible questions befall us.

(Watch the church bulletin or contact Kathy

Bricker for more information).
