Wealth of NepalThe beauty of Nepal was its diversity; Kathmandu with its busy intersections and cows casually

walking across the road, the green forests, terraced hills and chilly weather we experienced in the hikes, and the snowy peaks of the Himalayas which we would wake up at five to see. At first the hike was

tiresome and we learned to admire Nepali people who simply walked up the thousand stairs in flip flops

and carrying the weight of filled baskets on their foreheads while we panted and crunched on granola barsevery forty minutes as we took breaks.

After the hike we returned to Kathmandu where in the orphanage excited children and a goattied to a post by a scarf awaited us. That day the majority of us saw the goat killed and then ate it alongwith rice and curry to celebrate their most important celebration. It was delicious. We then experienced the

tikka celebration where a red rice paste was put on our foreheads, which symbolized luck. However thesight seeing and food where no comparison for the delightful impression the children and people of Nepal

left in our minds. The children couldnt resist helping us on our service project, which was flattening andweeding a section of a hill to create space for a badminton court. As we returned from the breaks we

would see them using our shovels, after we ate they would squat outside cleaning dishes with a hose andany task placed before them would be done immediately without a doubt, frown, or complaint. Amidst theunique landscapes and adventures Nepali people always smiled, radiating happiness and abundant wealth

    very unlike money.

I came to volunteer at Ocean Nepal in search to help others, to make a diference in peoples

lives for the good, but i never knew how much this experience would benefits me personally,

and make such an amazing impact in my life. The love that is shared in this organization and

that flows within the house is so strong and vibrant. From the moment i stepped through the

gates i was surrounded by the excited smiling faces of children and instantly felt like part of thefamily. It is not only the smiles, the laughs, the jokes, the questions, and the games shared that

makes every day so special, but most of all its the great friendships and love that is shared.

From the gathering morning tea time, to the precious last minutes of TV electricity at night I

found myself smiling in joy. Reading, Playing, Joking, Teaching, and Explaining are all daily

activities, as well as taking walks to the park, movie nights and Nepal got talent shows. My

favorite moments were when we are all huddled around the kitchen table, elbow deep in rice and

curry, just enjoying the amazing food and each others company. The family aspect, respect and

love are what made this experience so special and meaningful. This is an organized,

comfortable, loving place to share your time and volunteer.

A re ort from volunteer ZACH

    Nepals got Talent!

This is an amazing event that both the children and volunteers

loved. Highly recommended for a weekend or a vacation time

period. All the kids picked their talent that they want to perform

in front of the judges, which were the volunteers. Everything from

singing and dancing to karate and magic tricks were displayed by

the children. Judges and kids both dressed up for this amazing

outcome of an event. One of the kids was the host who

introduced each of the outstanding 17 acts which were displayedon a poster board showing the schedule for the night. As we all

sat and watched each performance, one after another we found

ourselves amazed and in awe. There was a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place

winners; each were able to choose their prize from a list that the

judges created. There was so much energy and love that was

expressed throughout the two hour show. At the end we found all

of us children, volunteers and adults all dancing around the room

in celebration for such an amazing outcome. Keep the Nepals

    Got Talent tradition alive!!
