TH INVESTITURE OF 15 ACEN PRESIDENT HELD IN LAGOS th The investiture of 15 Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN) President, Engr. (Dr.) Temilola Kehinde took place as planned on th Wednesday 26 February, 2014 at Julius Berger Auditorium, University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos. About 200 (Two Hundred) dignitaries were in attendance. The Chairman of the event, Sir Steve Omojafor, Chairman/Regional Consultant, STB-McCANN Group, thanked and welcomed all the attendees to the unique event. He commended ACEN for recognizing him to chair the investiture event. The immediate Past President of ACEN, Engr. Nuruddeen Rafindadi said in his speech, said that ACEN had witnessed modest achievements in the past two years. In his words He said further that “We must maintain our focus on delivering service to our members and sustaining the relationship with our stakeholders. At the local level, we shall continue to show a worthy leadership in engineering and in the built environment professional services industry. At the regional and international level, we shall continue to maintain our rising profile, creating bilateral relationship with other GAMA and FIDIC members”. ACEN President, Engr. (Dr.) Temilola Kehinde also welcomed all the dignitaries to his investiture ceremony. In his inaugural address, he stated that “Engineering was at core of development and that any nation that aspired to greatness must treasure and value engineering. He asserted that, through the National Content Development Act 2010, the government had opened a new vista of opportunities for consulting engineers and other professionals to participate actively in the oil and gas sector”. He stressed on ACEN membership that “Nobody can or will become a member of the Association without ascertainable relevant skills and a reputation for high quality work. He said that “For those in the Association, capacity development through training shall continue to be a strong pillar of the Association. The keynote address was delivered by the Chairman, Nigeria Economic Submit Group, Mr. Foluso Phillips. The theme of his presentation was “Development Must Be Engineered”. In his speech he said that “A total of $2.9tn is required to close Nigeria's infrastructure gap over the next 30years with $2.3tn on transport, energy, ICT and water, and $600bn on agriculture, mining, social infrastructure, housing and regional development”. He asserted that “Nigerian consulting engineers and even maybe even most Nigerian engineers are not getting their fair share of the opportunities available in their field. And it seems that the law that seeks to protect them from this situation – i.e. the local content law is not being adequately upheld nor is it robust enough to meet this challenge”. In his closing remarks, he congratulated ACEN President and felt proud to contribute to the engineering profession despite the fact that he was not one of them. GAMA 2014 HOLDS IN MOZAMBIQUE

The ACEN Secretariat is about to produce a new Member Directory for the Association. Members are requested to send a one-page document on A4 format to contain the following information:(a) Name of Firm(b) Membership Number (ACEN, COREN, NSE)(c) Address and Contact Details of all offices (Websites, E-mails and Phone numbers)(d) Partners and Key Staff including their Qualifications, Awards, Positions occupied and Specialisation.(e) Field of Practice and Specialisation.(f) List and estimated value of Key Projects including Project Titles, locations, client and year(g) Any other relevant information.(h) Supporting Pictures.

The 2014 Directory shall be published and sent to Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as our local and international partners. All submissions are to reach the Secretariat not later than Friday 14 March, 2014.

We wish to remind all members that the GAMA 2014 Conference will take place at the Girassol Indy Congress Hotel and Spa, Maputo – Mozambique from 23rd – 26th March, 2014. The theme of the conference is “LOCAL INVOLVEMENT IN MAJOR PROJECTS FOR SUSTAINABILITY”
