The main aim of the Congress is to provide a platform to the Young Student Researchers to present their research work and discuss priority issues in enabling science and technology applications for human welfare. The young scientists will have an opportunity to interact with eminent scientists and policy experts in the field of science and technology from all over the country. In the Inaugural of the Congress, the presidential address was delivered by Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, Founder Chairman of MSSRF. There were special addresses by Sri Prathipati Pulla Rao, Hon’ble Chief Minister for Agriculture & Fisheries, Government of Andhra Pradesh; and Dr. Y.S. Chowdary, Hon’ble Chief Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Government of India. The Theme of the Congress is “Science and the Zero Hunger Challenge”. It has been the charter of the UnitedNations to “eliminate hunger in our life-times”. The Zero Hunger Challenge encourages participation by a range oforganizations, social movements and people around a common vision. They promote effective strategies, more investmentsand increased development cooperation, in line with existing national and international agreements. They strive forresults and are accountable for their efforts – particularly to those who are hungry.

In the Valedictory Session, on 21-01-2015 Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, and Dr. Ajay Parida reviewed the CongressProceedings. There were special Addresses by Dr. Kodela Siva Prasad, Speaker, A.P. Legislative Assembly, Sri PrathipatiPulla Rao, Minister for Agriculture & Fisheries, Government of A.P. and Sri Alapati Rajendra Prasad, MLA, TenaliConstituency. The Vice-Chancellor, ANU, Dr. Latha Pillai, Director, RGNIYD and Prof. P. Narayana Rao, Director-Research, SRM University, the Rector and Organizing Secretary, ANU, and Dr. N. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

As a part of the Vibrant Gujarat – 2015 (GlobalBusiness Summit) held during 11-13 January, 2015 atGandhinagar, Gujarat, Acharya Nagarjuna University andthe Gujarat Energy Research & Management Institutesigned a Memorandum of Understanding for the purposeof offering “National Certification Programme forRooftop Solar Photovoltaic Installer” on 12.01.2015. TheMOU was signed by Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor and by Prof. T. Harinarayana, the Director ofGERMI.

The National Certification Programme is meant todevelop Skilled Manpower, who can attend to the work ofsetting up and maintenance of Rooftop Solar Systems.GERMI also agreed to develop the training module, standardize laboratory set up, technical content, hands on trainingequipment, methods of training and coordination with the Ministry of New and Renewal Sources of Energy, Govt. ofIndia. Acharya Nagarjuna University shall set up the required laboratories, conduct courses and extend all the trainingfacilities. Trainers and Faculty support would by provided by both the institutions.

DR. AMBEDKAR CHAIR SEMINAR

Bommidala Department of Human ResourceManagement conducted an International Seminar onIndustrial Relations / Human Relations in the Era ofGlobalization from 5-2-2015 to 8-2-2015. Prof. K. V. Rao,Vice- Chancellor, ANU, the chief guest of the inauguralfunction, spoke on Globalization and Human relations.Prof. V.S.P. Rao, the Dean IBS, IFHC University, in hisspeech, stressed the changing scenario of human relations,origin, development and the challenges of industrialrelations. Prof. Dattatreya Rao, OSD, Guests from France,Jeen Jround, Martin Alimeni and Dr. Kanga Ambai, MDPIPDIC, Prof. Venkata Rao from Pondicherry Universityattended the function. The Director of this Seminar Dr.Nagaraju Battu, presented the theme of the seminar. About380 papers were received from National and Internationalinstitutions. The Co-ordinator, Department of HRM,Dr.V.Tulasi Das, faculty members, research scholars,students, industrialists, academicians, participated in thisseminar.

On the fourth day, there was an interface with SriSudhakar, CEO/MD/GM of the Industries. Sri BommidalaRadha Krishna Murthy was the chief guest for thevaledictory function while the Vice-Chancellor Prof.Viyyanna Rao, Prof. P. Rajasekhar, Registrar, graced theoccasion.

Dr. Ambedkar Chairorganized a NationalSeminar on SocialPhilosophy of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar during 30-31,March 2015. Theinaugural session waspresided over by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao.The keynote addresswas delivered by Prof.K.Y. Ratnam, Director,Ambedkar Studies, University of Hyderabad. Prof. P.Rajasekhar, Registrar, ANU, Dr. Madhu Babu and Dr. S.Murali Mohan spoke on this occasion.

A UGC sponsored International seminar onUnderstanding the Contemporaneity of AcharyaNagarjuna’s Philosophy in the Global Context wasorganized by Center for Mahayana Buddhist Studies on28-30, January 2015 in the University. The Chief Guest wasProf. Christian Thomas Kohl, Dept. of Education,University of Freiburg, Germany. Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V.Rao presided over the Inaugural. The Rector, the Registrar,the Principal of College of Arts, Commerce and Law alsospoke on the occasion. Participants from the United Statesof America, Germany, South Korea, and Srilankaparticipated in the Conference. Dr. L. Udaya Kumar wasthe Conference Director. Faculty members of theDepartment, research scholars, and students alsoparticipated.

A UGC-sponsored National Seminar on NutritionalChallenges for Psychosomatic Stressed Women wasorganized by the Department of Foods and NutritionalSciences, ANU, during 4-5 February, 2015.

Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor of ANU, wasthe president of the inaugural function while Prof. VijayaKhader, Former Dean, Acharya N G Ranga AgriculturalUniversity, Hyderabad, was the chief guest. The Registrar,ANU; O.S.D, ANU; the Principal, College of Sciences,ANU, Prof. E.Narayana, ADR, RARS, Lam, were theguests of honour. Dr.Santhi Sri, K.V. was the Director ofthe Seminar. Prof. Vijaya Khader, in her keynote addressstated that Stress management can be a powerful tool inpreventing depression. A total of 193 participants registeredfor the seminar, and 102 abstracts including full lengthpapers were published in the souvenir.

The Department of English, ANU, conducted a UGCSponsored National Seminar on New Directions in EnglishLanguage and Literature during 13-14 February, 2015.Prof. KRS Sambasiva Rao, Rector, ANU was the ChiefGuest of the function. Other guests who attended theInaugural were Sri B. Krishna Murthy, Philanthropistfrom Guntur, Prof. P. Raja Sekhar, Registrar, ANU, Prof. V.Chandrasekhara Rao, Principal, ANU College of Arts,

Commerce and Law, Prof. A.V. Dattatreya Rao, OSD, ANU.The keynote Speaker Prof. V. Prakasam, former Professor,English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad,while the plenary address was delivered by Prof. T.Viswanadha Rao, former Professor, Andhra University. TheWriter’s Panel on translations featured Dr. Lanka Siva RamaPrasad, a Cardiologist and writer, Prof. C.L.L. Jayaprada ofAndhra University, Prof. Shantha Naik, Bangalore, Mr. P.Kranthi Kumar, JKC College, Guntur. Dr. M. Suresh Kumar,Head of the Department of English, was the Director of theseminar.

Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao, the Vice-Chancellor was theChief Guest of the valedictory function while Prof. M.A.K.Sukumar, former Rector, S.V. University, Tirupati, gave theValedictory address. Around 200 papers on recent trendsand advances in English language teaching and learningwere presented.

A one Day Workshop on Forensic Examination ofFraudulent Documents was jointly organized by theDepartment of Law, ANU, and Truth Labs, Hyderabad on24th January. The workshop was inaugurated by AndhraPradesh High Court Chief Justice Sri Kalyan JyotiSengupta. He explained how fraudulent documents areleading to rise in crime and violence which can be controlledby knowledge of forensics.

In the valedictory, Sri Sanjay, IG, Guntur Range,spoke of the need to create awareness of advanced forensictechnology to the public. The Vice-Chancellor, the Dean,Faculty of Law, the Head and the faculty of the departmentwere present. The chairman of Truth Labs, Dr. Gandhi P.C.Kaza also spoke.

The P.G. Dept. of Legal Studies and Research,ANU, organized a National Seminar on Human Rights andValues in Education sponsored by U.G.C, during 30-31March 2015.The objectives of the seminar was to find theways and means of spreading the human rights education.Justice K.G. Sankar, Chairperson, Debt RecoveryAppellate Tribunal Chennai, Sri Kakumanu Manu PedaPeri Reddy Member (Non-Judicial) A.P. State HumanRights Commission, Hyderabad were the Guests of Honour,while Prof. K. Viyyanna Rao, Vice-Chancellor of ANU, Prof.V. Chandrasekhara Rao graced the occassion. Theseminar was attended by several senior professors,Research scholars and law college students. The seminarfeatured 150 papers while 250 delegates attended.

CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENTThe Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) organized an Entrepreneurship Development Programme

(EDP) during 18 -19 March, 2015. Selected students from Management and Engineering who participated in the programmewere exposed to various practical situations facing the young entrepreneurs.

The Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the workshop. Mr. V. Nagasundar, General Manager, District Industries Centre,Guntur; Mr. MV Sudheer Kumar, Assistant Director, MSME, Hyderabad; Mr. S. Lakshmi Narayana, Zonal Manager,Andhra Bank; Smt. G. Madhuri, Softskills Trainer, Chennai, delivered lectures. Prof. KRS Sambasiva Rao, Rector, wasthe Chief Guest for the valedictory. Sri Prabhala Venkat, a Non-Resident Andhra Entrepreneur gave his message. TheDirector of the Centre Prof. Noorbasha Abdul said that in a short span of six months since the Centre was started in theuniversity, students in a large number have come forward to become entrepreneurs.

ENDOWMENT LECTURES

The 3rd Prof. D. RamakotaiahEndowment Lecture was delivered byVenerasle Tenzin Priyadarshi,Director, Dalai Lama Centre for Ethicsand Transformation Values from MIT,USA, on 18-1-2015. He spoke on thetopic “Global Peace and Human Values”. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao presided over the lecture.

An Interdisciplinary Refresher Course inPharmaceutical Sciences, jointly organized by the UGCAcademic Staff College, Andhra University and ANU washeld at ANU from 22-12-2014 to 11-1-2015. The Valedictoryof the three-week course was conducted on 11-1-2015which was presided over by the Coordinator Prof. KRSSambasiva Rao, the Rector of ANU. The Chief Guest Prof.Raja Rami Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor of VikramaSimhapuri University, Nellore, emphasised that teachersshould acquire the skills to teach students effectively. ANUVice-Chancellor Prof. K.V. Rao, Registrar Prof. P.Rajasekhar, Director, Andhra University Academic StaffCollege Prof. K. Sriramulu and others were present. Someof the resource persons were Prof. Rathnagiri Polavarapu,Emory University, USA; Prof. G. Devala Rao, Principal,KVR Siddhartha College of Pharmacy, Vijayawada; Dr. R.S.Prakasam, IICT, Hyderabad; Dr. Y.V.D. Nageswar ChiefScientist, IICT; and others.

COMMERCE WORKSHOPA Workshop on Financial Markets Online Trading was organized by the Dept. of Commerce and Management,

ANU on 26-03-2015. Arts College In-charge Principal Prof. S. Vijaya Raju inaugurated the workshop. Prof. G.V. Chalam,Prof. Noor Basha Abdul, Dr. Ratna Kishore and G. Sudharshan participated in the workshop.

great leader. The Registrar, the Principal of ANU College,faculty and students were present.

NATIONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL The 30th Inter-University National Youth Festival- 2015 under the aegis ofAssociation of Indian Universities and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt.of India, was organized by Devi Ahilya Viswavidyalaya, Indore, and from 12-16February 2015. Acharya Nagarjuna University got First prize in the Fine Artscategory, Installation. Installation is a unique competition in the fine arts category,in which the participants can use any type of waste material to depict their modeland to convey the message. Out of the ten teams which participated from the 5Zones, Acharya Nagarjuna University students were the only team from otherthan Fine Arts departments and still got the first prize in the National Youth Festival.University Cultural Co-ordinator Dr. S. Murali Mohan accompanied the team inthe National event.

A three week-long Training Programme on FashionDesigning for Adolescent Girls was organized by CommunitySocial Responsibility cell in collaboration with Jan SikshanSansthan, Ongole, in J.S.S. A unique programme for the transgender communitywas organized by Community Social Responsibility cell incollaboration with Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Ongole, wherethey were given training on preparation of home needs atJ.S.S. Office, Ongole, Prakasam District on 23-01-2015.About 40 people belonging to the transgender communitywere given training on preparation of washing powder,cleaning powder, phenol and candles. The NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. K. Madhu Babu,visited the Special Camp at A.P. Residential Degree College,Nagarjuna Sagar, Vijayapuri South on 02.01.2015. N.S.SProgramme Officer Sk. Mohammad Basha presented a briefreport of the Special Camp.

The Coordinator visited the Special CampingProgramme of Vijaya Jyothi Degree College, Mangalagiriat ANU Campus on 07.01.2015.

He also visited the Special Camping Programme ofR.V.R & J.C College of Engineering, Chowdavarm at ANUCampus on 09.01.2015. All the NSS volunteers worked hardto clean the entire campus.

V.J Degree College, Mangalagiri, conducted plantationprogramme at the adopted village, Errabalem on13.01.2015. A step further to this is the concept of ‘OneStudent One Tree’. The NSS Volunteers were involved innurturing trees for preservation of Environment.

181th Orientation Training Programme wasorganized for 24 Programme Officers of NSS units ofdifferent Colleges, for a period of 07 days i.e. from06.01.2015 to 12.01.2015, by University Training andOrientation Centre, Andhra University, an EmpanelledTraining Institute, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Swaccha Bharat Programme

Celebrations of International Women’s DayAs per the directions of NSS Regional Centre and

State Liaison officer, State NSS Cell, Hyderabad, the NSSCell, ANU, organized a two day programme for celebratingthe International Women’s Day in the University Campus.Make It Happen was the theme for the InternationalWomen’s Day, 5015. Various events like Elocution, Debate,Quiz and Light Vocal Solo (Indian) were conducted for thestudents of the university ANU Campus on 7-3-2015 and 8-3-2015.

The function was presided over by the Vice-Chancellorof ANU and graced by the Registrar, the Director, Centre forWomen’s Studies, ANU and Programme Coordinator, NSSCell, ANU.The function saw the participation of more than200 NSS volunteers and Programme Officers of ANUjurisdiction, apart from the participation of NSS volunteersof different colleges of respective NSS Units. The winnerswere given away prizes by the Vice-Chancellor, ANU.

The International Students Cell, ANU, started theEnglish Language Skill Development Training Program forInternational Students in ISC, ANU on 19th January, 2015.

A Generator was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor,ANU, Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao, in the International StudentsCell on 23rd January, 2015. The Rector, Registrar, ANU,OSD, Engineer, ANU and other university authorities gracedthe inauguration.

The International Students Cell organized a meetingon 28th January, 2015 with Sri Rajesh Kumar,Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, to interact with theinternational students and explain the rules and regulationsto be followed. Prof. K.R.S.Sambasiva Rao, Rector, Prof.V.Chandrasekhara Rao, Director, ISC, Prof. G.V.S.R.Anjaneyulu, Additional Director, ISC, Staff of UniversityCollege of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Staff of ISCparticipated in the meeting.

MoUs Prof.K.R.S.Sambasiva Rao, Rector and Prof.V.

Chandrasekhar Rao, Director, ISC, visited Tanzania andEthiopia during 1st to 10th February, 2015, for academic andresearch collaboration between ANU and the followingUniversities/National Institutes.

The team visited Mzumbe University Dar-es-Salamcampus, Tanzania on 3-2- 2015. Later, the team visitedMorogoro campus (main campus). Proposals are in theoffing for exchange of faculty and students between boththe Universities.

The team visited another pioneer institute in Tanzania,the Institute of Finance Management, at Dar-Es-Salaam,Tanzania, East Africa. There is already a good academicand research collaboration between these two institutionswith four members of the faculty from IFM working at ANU.

The team visited another premier institute, the EastAfrican Statistical Training Centre, Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzaniaof the University. An MoU has been signed between boththe organizations for academic collaboration for Ph.D. andMS programs.

The team later visited the prestigious University of Dar-es-Salam.

The team visited Aksum University at Aksum, Ethiopiaon 5-2-2015. and met the President and Vice-President andDean of Natural Science and Computer Applications andsigned an MoU with that University for academic andresearch collaboration.

The team participated in the meeting of all EthiopianUniversities Presidents and Vice-Presidents held at AxumUniversity, which has yielded fruitful academic and scientificcollaboration.

The team visited Ambo University, Ethiopia, on 9-2-2015 at Ambo and met the Vice-President of the University.Already two students from this University are working in ANU.

The team visited University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,which is a premier University in the African continent.

The team has also visited ICRISAT, Ethiopia, andvisited all the laboratories and interacted with scientists ofICRISAT, Ethiopia.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS CELL (ISC)

Hyderabad, to discuss the introduction of the Japaneselanguage to our students at various stages. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao presided over the meeting.ANU has been requested to act as Nodal Centre for givingpublicity about the Japanese language and encouragingstudents to come forward to learn it.

The 5th Advisory Meeting of International StudentsCell was conducted on 23-2- 2015, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, ANU, Prof. K.Viyyanna Rao. The Rector,Registrar, Director, ISC, OSD, Additional Director, ISC,Principals of all the University Colleges, the Dean, CDC,and others attended the meeting.

The International Students Cell organized a meetingwith the African students in the Chamber of the Director,ISC on 2-3- 2015. The Rector, the Director, ISC, theAdditional Director, ISC, interacted with the P.G students,Research Scholars and their Research Guides.

The World Organization of Students & Youth(WOSY) conferred “Ugadi Puraskarams” on 40 InternationalStudents on the eve of UGADI Festival on 21-3- 2015.

The Rector and theDirector presented theprofile of ANU and thestrengths of the universityto these Universities andinteracted with thePresidents, Vice-Presidents and Deans ofthese universities andexplored avenues for academic collaborations. Theyevinced keen interest in ANU faculties and expressedinterest in collaborations with the faculties of ANU in areaslike Biotechnology, Actuarial Sciences, Microbiology,Pharmacy, Management, Financial Management, Statistics,English and Tourism.

APPECET-2015 Committee MeetingA.P. State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad,

has entrusted the responsibility of conducting AndhraPradesh Physical Education Common Entrance Test(APPECET-2015) to Acharya Nagarjuna University.Prof.Y.Kishore, Dean, Faculty of Physical Education, Yogaand Sports Sciences, was nominated as Convener. Thecommittee meeting of APPECET -2015 was held at A.P. StateCouncil of Higher Education, Hyderabad on 13th March, 2015under the Chairmanship of Prof.L.Venugopal Reddy,Chairman, A.P.S.C.H.E, Hyderabad.

26th AGM of Inter-University Sports Board andSports Committee (AIU) for the year 2014-15

ANU hosted the 26th AGM of Inter-University SportsBoard and Sports Committee (AIU) for the year 2014-15 on20th March, 2015. This is the third time that ANU hasconducted this meeting. Earlier, it was conducted during theyears 2006 & 2013. In this meeting, the annual calendar ofNational University Games 2014-15 was finalized. Therevision of eligibility rules and fielding of Indian Universitiesteams in the World Universiade 2015 at Gwangju were themajor decisions.

National Seminar on Promoting Excellence in Sportsthrough University System

14 May to 24 June, 2014. Considering the Sportsbackground of the University and the available SportsInfrastructure, the NSNIS, Patiala has chosen ANU as acentre for the conduct of the course. This is the fourth yearthat the NIS is conducting the courses on the universitycampus.

Construction of Synthetic Athletic TrackThe Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of

India, has approved the proposal of ANU for laying of aSynthetic Athletic Track on the university campus under theUrban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS) and sanctionedan amount of Rs.5.5 crores for laying an 8 lane SyntheticAthletic Track. This will be the first Synthetic Athletic Trackin Andhra Pradesh.

Construction of Fitness Center with Sports Sciencesbackup

The University Grants Commission has sanctioned anamount of Rs.2.50 Crores for the development of a FitnessCenter with sports sciences backup under the scheme ofDevelopment of Sports Infrastructure & Equipment inuniversities during the 12th plan period to Acharya NagarjunaUniversity.

The Association of Indian Universities has entrustedthe responsibility of conducting a National Seminar on thetheme “Promoting Excellence in Sports through UniversitySystem” to Acharya Nagarjuna University. The seminar wasconducted on 21.03.2015. Directors of Physical Educationfrom universities, other experts in the field of PhysicalEducation and sports persons from all over India attendedthe seminar.

NSNIS Six Weeks Certificate Course – 2015Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala,
