MIID INSIDE NEWSLETTER

President’s MessageDear MIID Members,

The first half of 2018 has been a phase of planning, meetings and visualising the institute’s activities throughout the year. MIID also managed to organise several events since the start of the year namely the first ever REKA Workshop 01, MIID Chinese New Year Celebration, and MIID REKA Session 28 and 29.

To equip fellow interior designers and architects in Fundamentals of Professional Practice, the institute had successfully organised the REKA Workshop 01 on Friday, 16th January at the Sime Darby Convention Center. We were honored to have Ar. Dr. Tan Loke Mun as our speaker for the event elucidating the participants on the topic.

We have also managed to organised two REKA Sessions thus far. MIID REKA Session 28, took place on Thursday, 1st March 2018, entitled 2018 Interior Design Color Forecast by Jessica Tang from WGSN’s Asia Pacific Headquarter. MIID REKA Session 29 took place on Friday, 27th April 2018, entitled Hotel Trends by Olivier Delhomme from FR-One, a Belgium-based fire retardant fabric. Thank you to those who have supported the event.

Also, in line with MIID’s aim to develop a sophisticated society who are conversant and appreciative toward the creative world of Interior Design, we are proud to announce that REKA Design Week 2018 will take place for the second year in a row from the 1st until the 4th November 2018, at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The event houses various interior design events under one roof namely RiX, RIDA and MIID REKA Conference.

The event was a success last year as thousands of visitors witnessed the elevating of the interior design industry to a regional level. The uniquely curated RiX managed to draw thousands of visitors from various backgrounds such as interior design, architects, developers, decorators, and home-owners. Various activities held at the Town-Hall gave enhanced value for exhibitors as it had provided network opportunities for exhibitors, practitioners and industry partners alike.

MIID REKA Conference 2017 witnessed the participants’ exuberance as they get inspired by renowned interior designers sharing their ideas, thoughts and experiences surrounding the theme Ideation 2.0. The event was attended by more than 450 participants.

This year’s theme “Design Infinity: Future Spaces” is derived from the value that designers portray when designing a particular space and that is to create a timeless and modern space to suit the need of both the current as well as future users. This value will be further explored and enhanced during REKA Design Week to add quality to living and commercial spaces.

As President of the Institute, it is my responsibility to ensure that the vision of MIID is carried out in the best possible manner for the benefit of the industry, interior designers and the nation.

I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks for all the untiring support and dedication from fellow industry partners, sponsors, media and fellow members, in helping MIID carry out our vision. These initiatives wouldn’t have happened without you, and for that, we are ever grateful.

I hope our programmes will continue to strengthen the ties, bringing us forward to further propel the interior design industry of the nation.

Thank you.
