RENO, Nev. – Ryan Ciminelli of

    Cheektowaga, N.Y., became the

    Professional Bowlers

    Association’s first three-time

winner in 2015 when he defeated

    Thailand’s Kim Bolleby, 237-

201, to win the GoBowling Viper

    Championship at the National

    Bowling Stadium and put himself

    into contention for 2015 PBA

Player of the Year honors. The

    Viper title earned him $20,000

    and Bolleby collected $10,000 as

    runner-up.

    The Viper Championship,

presented by Xtra Frame , was

the second of four “animal pat-

tern” championships contestedduring the GEICO PBA World

    Series of Bowling VII present-

ed by Silver Legacy. The finals aired on ESPN.

Ciminelli, 29, jumped out to a 33-pin lead on

the strength of three strikes and a spare while

Bolleby opened in his fourth frame, and Ciminelli

never gave Bolleby a chance to get back into the

    game.

Ciminelli got a measure of revenge over newly-

crowned PBA World Champion Gary Faulkner Jr.

of Memphis, Tenn., with a 245-225 victory in the

semifinal round while Bolleby eliminated PBA

Tour rookie Jakob Butturff of Chandler, Ariz.,

222-181, in the other semifinal match.

All four players are left-handers. It was the first

all-lefty field in a PBA Tour event since 2007.

Ciminelli saw his dream of a third consecutivePBA Tour title and a second major win in 2015

when he lost to Faulkner, 247-237, in the Rolltech

PBA World Championship finals on Dec. 17, so

he knew a win in the Viper Championship was

important if he wanted to challenge Australia’s

Jason Belmonte in the Player of the Year chase.

Belmonte, the 2013 and 2014 Player of the Year,

staked himself to a big lead earlier in the year

when he won the USBC Masters and Barbasol

PBA Tournament of Champions, both majors.

“That was the hardest show I’ve ever been part

of, knowing Player of the Year was on the line

and I had to have this win,” Ciminelli said of the

Viper finals. “I knew I had another chance after

the World Championship even though that one

was heartbreaking. I felt like I bowled one of the

best games of my life in that one , but this was do-

    or-die.

“My legs were jello,” he added. “I was comfort-

able where I was playing the lane, but I was using

a new ball and it didn’t feel quite right. I just kept

it in play and fortunately (Bolleby) didn’t shoot a

     big game agains t me.”

Ciminelli believes his third win will make a big

difference in the PBA Player of the Year voting,

which will take place early in January.

“I think three titles says a lot, with one of them

being the U.S. Open,” he said. “I think I had somevotes before this one, but now I think I deserve it.

    It’s something I never thought I’d have a chance

to win, so when you get the chance, you have to

seize it. It could be 10 years before I ever have

    another chance.

“Belmo and I talked about (POY) yesterday, and

he told me I would be deserving if I win, and I

feel the same about him. I think he’s the best in

the world, but if he doesn’t win again this year,

he’ll probably win it again next year. I told him,

‘Hey, bro, I just want one.’”

    ABU DHABI, United Arab

Emirates - During the first three

events at the 2015 World Bowling

    Women's Championships, Jung

Dawun of Korea looked on as her

    teammates appeared in each medal

round, bowling for gold medals in

    singles, doubles and trios.She

finally found her own place in

the spotlight in the last event of

the week as she topped UnitedStates Bowling Congress Hall

    of Famer Liz Johnson of

    Cheektowaga, New York, 256-

183, to win the Masters gold

    medal at Zayed Sports City's

    Khalifa International Bowling

    Centre.

    It was the second world

    championship for the right-

    hander, who helped Korea to

the team gold medal in 2013,

and while she said there's noth-

ing like sharing a win with her

    teammates, it was a special

    honor to find individual suc-

    cess against someone she

    looks up to.

Jung struck eight times in the

    final match, while Johnson

    struggled with carry on the

same pair of lanes that yielded

two 300s for her this week.

"Liz is one of the best in the

world and I knew it was going to

be tough to beat her," Jung said.

"To win was a dream come true. It

was a very competitive week and

very nice to have a last game like

    that."

The week of the World Women's

    Championships, 147 players from

30 countries bowled six games of

singles, doubles, trios and team on

two different lane conditions - the

43-foot Tokyo oil pattern and 36-

    foot Los Angeles pattern.

The top 24 in the all-events

    standings advanced to Sunday's

    Masters Competition that featured

the long pattern on each left lane

and the short pattern on the right.

    After six additional games, the

field was cut to the top eight for

    round-robin match play.

Including 80 bonus pins for her

four wins in match play, Johnson

was the top seed for the Masters

medal round by more than 200

     pins.

    In the semifinals, Johnson took

    on her teammate Danielle

    McEwan of Stony Point, New

York, while Jung faced off against

    her own teammate, singles gold

    medalist Jeon Eunhee.

    McEwan opened with four

strikes, but a split in the eighth

frame turned her lead into a deficit

    she couldn't recover from.

    Johnson struck four consecutive

times starting in the sixth frame

and advanced to the final with a

    238-213 win. McEwan finished

the week with gold medals in dou-

bles and team and a bronze medal

    in Masters Competition.

Jung managed just one double in

her semifinal match, but it proved

to be enough as she snuck past

Jeon, 208-193. Jeon was clean in

the match, but had to settle for the

     bronze medal.

    Korea bowled in every gold-

    medal match this week, winning

    singles and trios, while collecting

silver medals in team and doubles

and an all-events bronze medal for

    Jeon.

Despite the ending to the tourna-

ment, the event overall was a suc-

cess for Johnson, who won four

medals - gold in team, silver in all-

events and Masters and bronze in

    trios.

    "I didn't want to finish with a

180, but it was a great week, and

    we accomplished what we came

here to do, and that was win the

    team event," Johnson said.

"Masters was a fun day. I could-

n't believe the ball reaction Ihad. Then, after the way

    Danielle started, I was fortunate

to get to the final, but the carry

     just went away. (Dawun)

     bowled great and earned it.

Overall, it's been a great trip."

All rounds of the 2015 World

    Women's Championships were

     broadcast live on BOWL.com's

BowlTV and can be found in

    the BowlTV archives.

    There were five 300 games

    this week, rolled by Venezuelan

    teammates Joan Gonzalez (dou-

     bles) and Karen Marcano

(team), two by Johnson and one

     by McEwan during Masters

    match play.

    Johnson's first 300 came in

the team final and helped Team

USA to the team gold medal,

and the second came in the

    opening game of match play.

3There now have been 16 per-

    fect games in World Women's

    Championships history, with two

each for Johnson and Team USA's

    Kelly Kulick of Union, New

    Jersey (2011 and 2013).

    Participating countries this year

    included: Australia, Bahamas,

    Canada, China, Chinese Taipei,

    Colombia, Denmark, Dominican

    Republic, England, Finland,

    Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland,

    Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Latvia,

    Malaysia, Mexico, Panama,

    Philippines, Poland, Singapore,

    Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine,

    United States, Venezuela and the

    host country United Arab

    Emirates.

    Korea topped the medal table

with eight, followed by the United

States and Singapore with six and

    Denmark, England and Germany

    with one apiece.

    “We don’t stop playing because we grow old;

we grow old because we stop playing.”― George Bernard Shaw

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Michael Endress, 30, cap-

tured his first Staten Island USBC Masters

Championship Tournament title after five consecutive

appearances in the events finale at Rab’s Country

    Lanes.

Endress has built an impressive resume in Staten

Island USBC events, earning titles in both the Men’s

and Open Doubles Championship Tournament over

the past ten years, including the elusive All Events

    Titles (Net & Gross).

The 7th Annual Staten Island USBC Masters

Championship Tournament, presented by XCELFederal Credit Union was played on the 2015 USBC

Masters Lane Condition. Top seed after the qualifying

round was the eventual runner-up, Peter Diemer, who

qualified with a 1,080 series. And as the 2014

Champion, Sean McAuliffe was automatically seeded

    into the Finals.

Michael Endress Jr. earned $1,500 for his top finish

followed by Peter Diemer Jr. $750, Kevin Buono

$400, Dan Dunleavy $350, Sean McAuliffe $310, Jeff

Scire $280, Tom Barnes $240, Frank Mazzella $230,

Awards & Hall-of-Fame Dinner Dance to be heldMay 27, 2016 at LiGreci’s Staaten.

    ARLINGTON, Texas - As most

    United States Bowling Congress-

    certified leagues are winding down

for the year, a few bowlers were

able to finish 2015 in memorable

fashion, adding their names to the

    USBC record books.

    Chuck Foudray of Green Bay,

Wisconsin, tossed 30 strikes on the

way to becoming the oldest bowler

to roll an 800 series, while a trio of Michigan bowlers came within one

pin of perfection in breaking the

    three-player, single-game record

    with an 899 effort.

    Both achievements are pending

    approval from USBC.

    Foudray's performance during

    the Monday MFL (Manhattan Fun

League) at Manhattan Lanes in De

    Pere, Wisconsin, on Dec. 14

included games of 254, 278 and

    278 for an 810 series.

    At 84 years, 3 months and 28

    days old, Foudray supplants Gerald

Gray of Celina, Ohio, who was 83

years, 7 months old when he rolled

    an 805 series in 2005. Foudray'sonly previous USBC-certified 800

was an 815 set in 2010.

    "This is something I never

expected to do, but it was one of

    those days where everything just

went right," said Foudray, who also

owns a handful of perfect games. "I

had 532 after two games and really

just wanted to shoot 700. Getting to

    800 never was a thought, and I

don't think anyone even realized it

    was happening."

Foudray has a history in the sport

that dates to his youth and a stint in

the U.S. Air Force, but he gave up

     bowling from 1959-1994 to focus

on working and raising a family.

He returned to the lanes in 1995 for

the camaraderie and to do some-

    thing he enjoyed.

In the years since, Foudray has

bowled as many as five days a

week but now limits his participa-

tion to just one afternoon league -

where he has become a celebrity.

"I'm still trying to get used to the

idea of being a record holder,"

Foudray said. "I was as amazed as

anyone else. I've been bowling well

this year, and that's my main goal

when I go out there. I'm definitely

not out to break any records, which

makes this even better."The week's other record perform-

ance came in the Tuesday Tavern

    league at Candlelite Bowl in

    Bridgeport, Michigan, where

    Bobby Sanch, Brian McMahon and

Steve Novak rolled games of 300,

    299 and 300, respectively, topping

the existing record of 897, rolled in

    Baltimore in 2006.

Novak has earned a reputation as

a top team bowler, having helped

    Saginaw Valley State University to

a win at the 2006 Intercollegiate

    Team Championships and his

Junior Team USA Support 1 team

to Team All-Events titles at the

USBC Open Championships in2013 and 2015.

    The 32-year-old right-hander

now helps coach the SVSU team,

while McMahon is a past team

    member and Sanch currently bowls

    for the Cardinals.

"This definitely by far is the best

accomplishment I've been a part of

in a league setting, and it was a lot

    fun," Novak said. "The whole

    league stopped and watched our

10th frame, and that was really

cool. Any of us could shoot 300 on

a given night, but for all of us to

have a chance at the same time was

    something we've never experi-

enced. Even though we didn't get

the 900, we did do something that's

never been done, and that's spe-

    cial."
