Gathering - 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) Jonas Myrin & Matt Redman

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning, it’s time to sing your song again.Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me, Let me be singing when the evening comes.

You’re rich in love and you’re slow to anger. Your name is great and your heart is kind. For all your goodness, I will keep on singing:Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

    LITURGY OF THE WORD

The Lord will raise up a prophet like Moses. The figure of Moses was so important in Jewish history and belief that the author of Deuteronomy consoled the people with the divine promise that they would never be without a prophet like Moses.

First Scripture - Book of Deuteronomy 18:15–20

Gloria - Glory To God Carroll Andrews

    (Choir/Cantor sings the middle section.)

Music: A New Mass for Congregations, Carroll T. Andrews © 1970, 2011, GIA Publications.

Responsorial - Psalm 95: If Today Tom Booth

Text: ICEL. Music © 2013 Tom Booth. Published by OCP.

Come, let us sing joyfully to the LORD; let us acclaim the Rock of our salvation.Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us joyfully sing psalms to him.

Come, let us bow down and worship; let us kneel before the LORD who made us.For he is our God, we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides.

O, that today you would hear his voice: “Harden not your hearts as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the desert.”Where your fathers tempted me; they tested me though they had seen my works.

Prayer of the Faithful - Lord, Hear Our Prayer

    Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Jesus commands an unclean spirit. Though many people thought of Jesus as a rabbi—a teacher of the Torah—he demonstrates in the synagogue at Capernaum that he is an interpreter as well as an expert in current thought about the Torah, in other words, a powerful teacher who offers “a new teaching with authority.”

Gospel - Gospel of Mark 1:21-28

Devote yourself to the Lord.Paul is trying to communicate the sort of wholehearted devotion that the Gospel calls for. Though unmarried himself, he uses marriage as an example of the way people can become involved with things other than the faith.

Second Scripture - First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians 7:32–35

    Gospel Acclamation - Alleluia TAIZE

Verse: The people who sit in darkness have seen a great light; on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death, light has arisen.
