They went out and happened to things.”

KEYS TO MEMBER RETENTION & ATTRACTION

– Autonomy• People want to be part of something that’s

self-governing – Purpose

• People want to be part of something meaningful – an organization that’s making a difference

– Mastery• People want to be part of something that’s as good as

any and better than most at what it does

Page 31: January 31, 2015 Welcome to District 7750 Mid-Year Assembly

QUESTIONS…

– Autonomy??– Purpose??

• Does your club actually DO enough to keep its members engaged in its Purpose?

• Is its Purpose clearly part of the President’s vision?

– Mastery??• Is your club actually working at mastering its game?• Does your club have an idea of what mastery looks

like?

LOSS of SUSTAINABILITY– Slip below critical mass of ~ 20 members– From 18 to 16 to 14 – Don’t realize what’s happening– Meetings of 10-12 members = Trouble attracting

speakers– Trouble attracting new members– Trouble executing meaningful projects– Nobody wants to be President the third time– Aging out together – many of these same clubs have

few members under 50– At 10-12 members, 1 or 2 key players are holding the

club together– Something happens to one of those -- Lights out

Fact:

Of the 10 clubs in D-7750 with the largest % membership loss this year, NINE are under 25 members.

A NET LOSS of THIRTY members
