Legacy Commitment

As we draw to the end of Our Legacy Commitment

II and look forward to starting Our Legacy Commit-

ment III, the response so far has been very encour-

aging! We mailed out pledge cards at the end of

November and to date have 85 households pledging

a total of $64,586! The average household pledge is

just over $750!

The pledges break down as follows:

Up to $249 – 28 households

$250 - $999 – 33 households

$1000 - $2499 – 19 households

$2500 - $9999 – 4 households

$10,000 – 1 household

Our principal loan balance is currently at $160,000.

Since January 2014, we have paid $325,000 on the

principal due to your very generous pledges to our

first two campaigns.

With over 1100 registered households, if each of the

1000 households who have not pledged would

pledge just $100, this is the year that we could be

debt-free!

If you have not yet pledged towards Our Legacy

Commitment III, we encourage you to send in your

pledge card today!

Please contact Mary Wishneski for further infor-

mation or assistance in establishing your pledge.

CHURCH BASEMENT NEWS

We are currently in the process of putting the “final

touches” on our marvelous church hall renovation

project. More information will be forthcoming in

future bulletins

There are so many to thank for your heroic efforts to

make our Celebration of the Birth of our Savior such

a beautiful moment in the life of our parish. First,

there are those who organized and contributed to our

Parish Giving that made Christmas this year so spe-

cial to the many children who received gifts; families

who received food and other forms of assistance; and

the shut-ins and elderly who received cookies baked

with love from our teens.

And our parish was so wonderfully blessed in the joy

you brought to so many of our children in providing

Sundae’s with Santa.

Spiritually, we also grew through those who present-

ed and participated in our special Season of Advent

programs. All of you have surely made a difference

in the lives of many.

Then, there are the parish cleaners and decorators; the

greeters, Ushers, set-up and tear-down people, the

unsung heroes in the parish who make everything

work and keep everything clean and welcoming.

Our many liturgical ministers who contributed so

mightily to the reverence and beauty of our Christmas

liturgies-Altar Servers and Eucharistic Ministers;

Proclaimers of the Word and Prayer Warriors; Can-

tors and Confessors; Musicians and Choirs and their

Directors; and of course, our Deacon and Priest

Presiders.

Finally, there is our Parish Staff who welcome, en-

courage, and assist all of us to experience God’s

bountiful love.

Thank you to all, for your kindness and generosity to

the needs of Our parish.

Yours in Christ,

Father Eschbach

Ava Nichole Santiago, daughter of Joseph & Susan

Santiago.

Baptized on December 20, 2015.

This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, man-

age your money, spend and save wisely, and much

more!

The next session will begin on Wednesday, January

6, 2016, and will continue every Wednesday for 9

weeks.

The class will meet at the Schneider Parish Center

January 3, 2016-The Epiphany of the Lord Reflection by Rev. Leonard N. Peterson

The picture of St Peter’s Successor, Pope Francis, at the UN headquarters in New York addressing the repre-

sentatives from nearly every country in the world is replete with meaning. For one such, it takes only a short

leap of imagination to see St. Peter himself standing in that same great hall fulfilling the original mandate

given him by Christ to preach to all nations.

Akin to this is the central meaning of today’s feast, which commemorates the manifestation of Christ to repre-

sentatives of the Gentile world. While He could not yet literally speak to the magi, their presence certainly

spoke to the original gospel hearers.

This constituted a quiet revolution coming into the world, one without drums and cymbals, announcing a

change of heart for all the world to experience. It was a new way of thinking about God. An invitation to be-

lieve that the Creator so loves His creatures that He would leave His heaven and walk the earth as one of us.

His mission would be to teach us how to live according to God’s original design and to redeem us from the

bad choice our first parents were duped into making.

“Epiphany” means “manifestation” or “showing.” Christ showed Himself to the non-Jewish world.

The welcome given to these exotic Gentiles by Mary and Joseph also gives gospel notice that no nationality

has a “lock” on God. True, God chose the Jews as His people, but they rejected His Son.

Just as God is one, but also a community of Three Persons, so we as Church spring from multiple communi-

ties, racial and cultural, are called to be one family.

All of this naturally leads us as to ponder our position on all the so-called “hot button” issues involving other

people. Dare we decide that God made a mistake in creating certain races? Or that His will involved setting

up grades of acceptability among us? We know better. Such is contrary to His nature. But the practical conclu-

sion is that when distressed people knock on our doors, we can never say “no” as if they were not related to us

in a spiritual way.

This is a serious matter for consideration as we prepare for our own ultimate meeting with Christ.

Meanwhile, on this Epiphany Day, we can savor the Good News that for all our failings and sins, we have a

Savior whose hallmarks include both justice and mercy. He looks only for our response to the love He has for

us as His family members.

How appropriate that news is in this Year of Mercy! Remember that “Charity is twice blessed–it blesses the

one who gives and the one who receives.”

First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6

All the nations come to Jerusalem to rebuild the city and also to praise God.

Second Reading: Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6

St. Paul’s great insight is that the Gentiles are invited to full and equal participation in the Church as true

coheirs.

Gospel: Matthew 2:1-12

The magi, a caste of wise men, eventually became interpreted as kings in later Christian tradition, and they

even received names. They represent the Gentile world coming to adore the Messiah.
