SPECIAL WORKSHOP
NEW REALITIES FOR ACCREDITING ORGANIZATIONS AND POSTSECONDARY SYSTEMS
This interactive workshop will review some recent cases that challenge the usual relationships (or previous lack of them) between state systems and accreditors of their institutions. The cases in Maine, Connecticut and Alaska are likely to be the vanguard of others on the horizon. We will be exploring the path forward for regional, national and professional accreditors and the state systems planning new organizational structures.

2. ACCOUNTING FOR TEACHING’S VALUE (SOUTH AMERICAN ROOM)
The Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) has developed a multi-stage evaluation approach that fully connects the dots among faculty development, better teaching and student achievement. In this session, ACUE leaders will share this approach and the results of independently validated studies that show improved student outcomes and closed achievement gaps. These findings are challenging institutional leaders to reconceptualize the purpose and scope of faculty development in ways that allow accreditors to better connect faculty-related accreditation standards with an institution’s mission.
